Nessa Amandil
Chapter Two
Nessa Amandil
Galadriel found her quarry soon after leaving the Fellowship to their rest and thoughts. The elf she had been seeking was on the practice range. The solid thumps of the archer’s arrows hitting the exact center of the target permeated the air. As Galadriel drew closer to the deadly archer a clear voice rang through the clearing. “To what do I owe this honor Lady Galadriel?” the other elf asked.
“I seek a favor from you my loyal archer.” Galadriel said in her unearthly voice.
“What would someone like me be able to do for you that is beyond your abilities Great Lady?” the archer asked. Her bright green eyes were milky with an opaque white substance. There was no doubt in anyone’s mind that she was blind.
“Teach another such as yourself to live as you do.” Galadriel said earnestly.
“How long do I have to teach them and who is the unfortunate one?” The blind she-elf asked getting a clear picture of the task.
“I am unsure of the amount of time you have with him, he is on a dangerous quest, you know of him as Prince Legolas of Mirkwood forest.” Galadriel informed the other elf.
“Fine I will take on this task My Lady, please guide me to him.” the archer said as she carefully packed her arrows into their quiver and picked up the intricately carved bow.
Knowing that the blind elf behind her could follow the light sound of her footsteps Galadriel led Legolas’s best hope to him. Even Galadriel blessed with the sight as she was couldn’t see the outcome of these momentous steps.

Legolas’s ponderings on his dieing sight were brought to a close by the sound of two elves’ footsteps. He looked up and even through his blurry vision could make out the two elves features. The one was the familiar wise face of Galadriel the other was unknown to him. The she-elf had long wavy dark hair, very peculiar green eyes, was a bit taller then Galadriel, and carried the equipment of an archer.
“Legolas I have brought someone who can help you with your predicament.” Galadriel told him.
Galadriel’s companion stepped forward and said in a beautiful clear voice. “I am Nessa Amandil, I am a member of the forest guard, the winner of nearly every archery tournament held in the forest, and I was blinded in an accident when I was just an elfling.” The mysterious she-elf responded.
“How can you do all that with this curse?” Legolas asked and only centuries of practice at court stopped the desperation from reaching his voice.
“Because it is the way of elves, for us losing one sense isn’t a curse as you put it, as one sense wanes another waxes. You will find yourself growing faster, have keener hearing, have the ability to sense the slightest movement, and smell the sweetest flower from the furthest meadow. Yes you are loosing your sight but you will find you gain back much more. Sometimes I even forget the fact I cannot see I am too busy listening to the birds call or the meadow sing.” Nessa explained.
“How can your arrows fly true?” Legolas asked as he had been nervous could the fellowship really afford a blind useless elf amongst them.
“I can sense my target be it on the tournament field or out amongst the trees, I can feel the winds swirling around the objects surrounding me, I can feel the heat given off by other creatures, and the rest is instinct mainly. Let your heart guide your hand on the bow and you will never miss unless you are meant to. These are learned skills that will develop in you over some time. Galadriel has asked me to aid you in this learning. I have yet to hear your views on this matter. What do you say young Prince, will you learn what I have to teach?” Nessa asked him.
“How could I not? My home and my friends depend on me being whole and strong for them. Teach me what you may.” Legolas replied a bit of his old spirit slowly returning he would meet this challenge head on and by the Valor he would beat it.
