The Elf and the Hobbit Have A Talk

CHAPTER 2: The Elf and the Hobbit Have A Talk

“Honk…Honk!” the two short sounds made Viggo jump out of his stupor and look toward the deep voice that called to him through his window that was cracked a couple of inches, “Hey…are you all right…do you need a ride?”

The Dane glanced around for a minute his face glistening with wetness as he tried to understand what had happened just a few minutes earlier…was it a dream…of course it was reality couldn’t be that cruel…but nightmares could and this was unquestionably defined as just that.

“Sir…?” the stranger started before Viggo shook his head no and waved him off, then entered his own car restarted it and took off in the direction Orli had taken, letting the lightning and his bright headlights act as his flashlight. The artist drove like he was on a mission his wipers going full force keeping time with his racing heart, surely his sweetheart had gone back to their house he keep repeating to himself.

As he neared his residence, his headlights glowing on the front door and the dark windows, he knew his prayers for his lover’s presence there had not come true. Disheartened he lost track of his speed and practically hydroplaned into the driveway stopping inches from his garage door. He slammed the car into park as heavy sobs that he couldn’t hold back any longer barraged his body making him shake and shudder, while he sat there behind the still racing wipers wondering if he still had a partner to come home at all.

Orli felt like he was almost drowning as he trudged through countless muddy yards and crossed semi flooded streets, until his goal came into sight… a large complex of apartments where a certain hobbit who had kissed his boyfriend lived.

A natural light show brightened the sky and the two-story building as the Brit made a path through the grass and hurried up to the door of Apartment 214 then started knocking on it loudly.

“Who is it?”

“Bills it’s me…Orlando” the dark haired man shuddered as he spoke to the brown wooden barrier, then heard it being unlocked and opened to reveal his worried friend.

“What are you doing out on a night like this…where’s Viggo?” the older man asked as he looked around the Brit. Viggo…of course he wants to know about Viggo…he’s probably worried about him Orli thought smirking to himself. Then a hand wrapped around the wet wrist and pulled him inside the warm room closing out the cold storm outside, but not the one stewing in Orlando’s heart.

“Your soaking wet let me get you a towel so I can dry your clothes…did you walk here?” the voice continued becoming muffled as it moved into another room, then the sound of doors being opened and shut could be heard.

Orlando just continued to stand in his entryway his muscular body dripping, several questions weighing heavily on his mind. Then watched with glaring orbs as Billy returned with a couple of large towels, one of which he tossed on the floor at the dark haired man’s tennis shoes hoping to soak up the small puddle there.

“Here you go Orli…you know where the bathroom is…ohhh and there’s a robe hanging on the back of the door that you can wear,” Billy stated as he held out the remaining towel and waited for the other man to take it. Gentle baby brown’s scanned almost lifelessly over the soft object but the owner’s hands didn’t move to take it, making the hobbit like man become concerned about what had happened earlier that night to bring him here like this.

“Don’t worry Elf I washed them after Dom used them!” Billy kidded chuckling to himself trying to relieve the tension with a joke as he stepped closer. Orlando smirked slightly at the comment despite his annoyance with the other man, but it didn’t last long because in his next breath mustering all his courage he suddenly blurted out the question festering in his mind.

“Di…Did you…like it?” the quivering British voice asked as their eyes met, an almost frightened expression was locked on the face of the taller man, a unspoken hurt hidden in the brown depths of his eyes.

“Did I like what?”

“Your kiss with Viggo” he said flatly his eyes finding the floor as he nervously brushed his curls back with his hand.

“Huh?” Billy’s mind raced with the memories of Viggo kissing him, after all he seemed to kiss everyone in jest that is, especially since him and Orli had gotten together; then one time in particular popped into the older man’s head and he sighed.

“Do you mean at the…”

“Yeah the wedding scene…and the way…the way he looked at…at you.” The young Brit stuttered as he made eye contact with his friend again. Now Billy understood, Orlando thought that he was the other man …and he should know how far from the truth that idea was. Never the less Billy’s stomach ached as it twisted in a tight knot with the realization of the situation, his heart full of regret for his actions and he heavily exhaled as he stepped closer to the Elf. He didn’t want to tell the Elf that really it was Vig who had grabbed and kissed him because they both had participated in the offense, so it was equally both their faults and neither of them had thought about the consequences that could follow.

“Yes Orlando…Vig looks at everyone he cares about the same…with a friendly smile and sparkling playful blue eyes,” he said as he tossed the suddenly unwanted towel onto a chair, then touched the Brit’s arm lightly as he continued, “on the other hand if you could see the way he looks at you…”

“But…”

“No Orli let me finish…” Billy said as his hand moved to cup his elbow and squeeze it lightly, “if you could see the way he looks at you then you would know how very very special you are to him…you can actually see IT radiating from his body and soul.”

“It?”

“Love Orli…plain old fashioned out of this world love…you’re the one who receives THAT sickly sweet over the moon look mixed with THAT dreamy smile…I’ve seen it…we’ve all seen it…and if anyone should be jealous it should be us.

The soft words pulled a smile from the Brit who visibly relaxed, as his over imaginative mind took in the beautiful things his buddy was telling him, and inside in his gut he knew it was all true he just needed a little more affirmation.

Billy gave the arm he was holding a firmer reassuring squeeze then pulled the slender body of his visitor into a hug not caring if he would come out of it dry or not, this was his friends heart and life they were talking about. As they pulled back from each other Bill could see and feel the dampness that had invaded his t-shirt as well as Orli’s eyes, then the unstoppable happier tears swelled and began to caress their way down the Brit’s cheeks.

“Okay you crazy Elf lets get you dried off…I don’t want that “mental” ranger, as Elijah would say, to go off on me when you get pneumonia,” the older hobbit quipped watching Orlando wipe his tears away through the smile that had invaded his cheeks, then turned and took the few steps needed to reach the chair where the discarded towel lay.

As he bent down to grab it to offer it once again to Orlando he heard his front door
open letting the warmth escape to be replaced with the cold and wetness that still lingered in the night air. Seconds later Billy heard the distinctive sounds of heavy footsteps splitting the large puddles that had collected outside his doorway, and smiled as he turned around to find that he was the only one left in the now quiet almost lonely room.

“Go get him tiger…your prey awaits…and so does your future in his arms.” The older man whispered.
