Dark Disaster
~Chapter two: Dark Disaster~
“LEGOLAS!!!!!!!!”
Elladan watched in horror as the Mirkwood elf was shot and immediately collapsed, rushing to his weapons he looked to Elrohir, who, like him, stared in shock, both dressed in but their pants, “Elrohir, take him, take him to his guards, he must be tended to as soon as possible, go with them, you have taken after father’s healing, you know this. Go Elrohir, you must! Rumil and Haldir will aid me, but you must go now”
Elrohir stood conflicted, he knew Legolas needed to be brought to his home swiftly, the arrow was likely poisoned, but, he didn’t want to lose his brother either.
With a sigh, he rushed to the cold, unmoving body of the prince, picking up and rushing to the group, “Rumil, Haldir, my brother needs your help! Quick, prince Legolas must be taken to the Mirkwood Palace at once, we cannot waste any time, MOVE!”
He sat the elf on his horse, mounting behind, whispering softly, “You can’t leave us, fight it Legolas, you must survive…We love you, you can’t go” Rushing off into the darkness of the forest, he didn’t even pay attention to the guards, if they followed.
The guards tried their best to keep up with the Rivendell elf, but found it difficult to do so.
Meanwhile…
Rumil and Haldir rushed to Elladan’s side, finding him surrounded by orcs, light cuts here and there across his chest.
They wasted no time in readying their bows, sending their arrows flying into the orcs, swiftly killing the greatest number, a few rushing off into the darkness to save their lives.
Elladan sank to his knees, the tears now falling as he pressed his head to the ground.
Rumil kneeled besides him, “Legolas will be fine, he’d be damned to leave you and ‘Ro, he’ll be fine”
Elladan looked up at him, “It’s my fault, if…if he doesn’t make it…I’ll never forgive myself”
Haldir lifted him up to his feet, “Come, we should go after them, he will want to see you when he wakes, and, your brother is no doubt worried about you”
With a nod, Elladan took his tunic, slipping it on before moving to his horse, “You are right Haldir, let’s go”
He offered them a weak smile, wiping at his tears, “We must hurry, we’re unlikely to catch up with them still, but…the sooner we join them, the better”
The brothers mounted their horses, nodding, “Let us go”
And soon, they were off, trusting their senses to guide them right.
The guards split up after arrival, some tending to the others, others leading the way, others accompanying Elrohir who seemed to become less certain of Legolas being okay with every second that went on.
Entering the healing wing they were joined by Thranduil, his booming voice filling the room, “WHAT HAPPENED TO MY SON?!”
The guards went to bow to their Lord, stammering apologies of sorts that were easily discarded by the king, “You were to protect him, it wasn’t that hard a task!”
Elrohir, who had been helping out the healers looked up, tears trailing down his cheeks, “My liege, it wasn’t their fault, all of us were caught off guard by the orcs, none of us noticed them…until…” The Elf-knight shivered, “If you wish to blame anyone, blame me, and my brother, we should have been more aware of our surroundings. My deepest, most sincere apologies my liege”
Thranduil narrowed his eyes at the elf, “You!”
Elrohir looked down, stepping back as the healers told him he couldn’t help any further, it would do more harm than good in the state he was in.
Elrohir looked at the blood on his hands, the blood of his lover and sank to his knees, “Yes my liege, blame me, if you must”
Thranduil looked at him, “Where is your brother?”
Elrohir looked up hesitantly, “He…He stayed behind with Rumil and Haldir…to…to hold back the orcs, so that I …and the guards, could rush to get Legolas home. I…I don’t know where he is now”
“I’m here…” The voice startled all of those gathered as Elladan stepped into the room, like his brother just clad in his bands, but unlike his brother, he was covered in cuts and bruises.
Elrohir rushed to him as he saw his brother threatening to collapse, “Are you alright? What about Haldir…Rumil?”
Elladan offered a weak smile, “They’re putting the horses away” Looking at Thranduil he bowed, “My liege, I could never offer enough apology for what has happened, the blame is fully mine, if Legolas… I’d never forgive myself”
Thranduil nodded, “Nor would I… So, it would be in both our interests to see him recover”
