chapter two
Once again Erestor found himself being pulled through the crowded market streets of Gondolin. His Elf-Lord was in a hurry to get to the practice fields because his friend, a young Elf-Lord by the name of Ecthelion, had not been there the day before and so he was in a hurry to see if he was there today. Erestor tried to see as much as he could of all the shops. As he was pulled along he could see shops with fine clothing, shops with the most wonderful smelling sweet cakes, and shops with some things he had never seen. Once he had tried to see inside one shop in particular causing Glorfindel to yank on his arm to get him moving again. Again the thought crossed his mind that he wished he was free, but quickly dismissed the thought as he would never be free.
Erestor did not want to go to the practice fields, as he knew he would be put with them awful pets he was with the day before. Some had broken arms and cuts and bruises all of them, other looked as they would fade at any moment. While other seemed to not really be there. He hated to see what could become of him. Trying hard to rid himself of the imagines that were coming to his mind he almost tripped over Glorfindel when he finally came to a stop. Looking ahead he could see they had came to the practice fields, but as he looked he could see two elves standing apart from the others. It was to these elves that Glorfindel lead them. As he came closer he could tell that one was an Elf-Lord, while the other was an pet. Erestor had never seen an Elf-pet with that color hair, the pet had hair as white as the snow that fell in the colder months, and the bluest eyes Erestor had ever seen. He was so engrossed with the white-haired Elf-pet that he almost missed his Elf-Lord introducing him to the Elf-Lord Ecthelion. Looking to the Elf-Lord, Erestor did has he had been taught and bowed his head. Before anything more could be said the Elf-Lord’s tutor called the Lords over to began their training, and the two Elf-pets were left to entertain themselves. After the Elf-Lords had left the white-haired pet turned to him and said, “My name is Lindir. Has your Elf-Lord giving you a name?”
Looking toward his Elf-Lord Erestor very quietly answered, “Erestor.”
“A pretty name. Do not worry Erestor, Lord Glorfindel is like my Ecthelion. He will not mind us talking. You are lucky you were giving to Lord Glorfindel. Ecthelion and him have been friends for a very long time and both a good elves. They do not do the thing that the other Elf-Lord do to their Elf-pet.” Lindir told Erestor. Then in a very low whisper he added, “Unless you want too.”
Erestor’s eyes grew wide for he knew what Lindir was talking about. He had been taught exactly what Elf-Lord did to Elf-pets and ever since he had learn he had feared it happening to him, for most Elf-pets did not last long after. “I do not think I would like that.” He quietly said.
“Erestor it is not always like they taught us. With the right Elf-Lord it can be pleasurable.” Lindir informed Erestor. “Do not worry about it now, Lord Glorfindel is still a little young for that yet.” Lindir added seeing the worried look Erestor was giving him.
“Do you... does your Elf-Lord... I mean?” Erestor tried to ask.
Lindir taking pity on the little one finished, “Do my Elf-Lord and myself do those thing?”
Erestor nodded his head.
“Yes and it is very pleasurable and he had never done anything to hurt me, and neither would Lord Glorfindel do anything to hurt you.” Lindir told the frightened Elf-pet. His Elf-Lord had told him that morning that he would meet Lord Glorfindel’s new pet and that he expected him to help the new pet to realize that what they taught them was not how it always was. It had taken his Elf-Lord months to show him what he was desperately trying to tell Erestor.
Erestor sat there for the remainder of the afternoon thinking about what Lindir had told him. When his Elf-Lord came to get him he was still thinking on this, and later after he had received another bath from his Elf-Lord and was again sitting in front of him while he combed and braided his hair he asked, “My Lord?”
“Yes, Erestor?” Glorfindel replied as he finished tying off the first braid.
“Lindir told me that you would never do anything to hurt me like the other Elf-Lords do to hurt their pet.” Erestor asked.
