Music.

Disclaimer: Not mine...none of it...well, except for the AU thing. But that's just plot.
A/N: When I put *X's POV*, it's in first person. When I put *End POV*, it goes back to third person.

*Maglor's POV.*

She was lovely. I didn't think of it that way when I first saw her, of course. I just thought that she was pretty, and that she looked clever. I could see it in her face. She wasn't stupid.

I wanted to talk to her, to see what she was like. I met her gaze. She had beautiful eyes, clear blue, the colour of sapphires in a dark room. So clear, and yet so deep...

Imagine a pool of water. It is clear, yet you cannot see beyond the bottom. That is what her eyes were like.

I told her my name as I took her hand. She nodded, and told me hers.

"I am Artanis."

Our conversation began haltingly, with me pointing out the members of my family, and she indicating hers. When we saw Grandfather, I said, "That is my grandfather, Finwe," at the same time as she did. We thought about it for a moment, and then we both laughed heartily.

Maitimo remembered me then, and came over to find me. I was, at that point, engaged in a rather enthusiastic discussion with Artanis regarding our family trees. The enthusiasm mainly came from the idea that we were related. Father had not told me much of his half-brothers, and I understood that he was somewhat resentful of them, though not so much that he would refuse to let us children mingle. Ah, happy times.

My older brother took me outside, and Artanis came too. Maitimo laughed merrily -I discovered later that someone had given him a little wine -and suggested that I should sing.

She wanted to hear, too.

*End POV.*

He wondered what he should sing. This hesitation did not often come, but he wanted to sing something that she would enjoy. Something that would impress her.

He eventually decided on a simple lullaby that his mother had taught him.

Hush, sleep, let the night flow by,
In Telperion’s silver light,
Back beyond the tiring world,
Let dreams of tender rest unfurl,
Sleep, child, for the day is gone,
Sleep under bright Telperion.

Night is here,
Sleep not in fear
.”

When he looked up again, Artanis was dozing, lying on the grass. His brother seemed to be quite sleepy.

“There you two are. Arafinwe, your daughter is here…” said his mother’s voice.

A/N: The lullaby is sung to the tune of Pippin’s song in RotK.
