Chapter 2
Chapter 2.
He awakens to a bright and warm morning. Birds are singing and hunting for food for their young. People are walking down pat path to the main living area. Sng ung up he puts his arms straight over his head and stretches. Thinking about the events of the previous night it dawns on him that he did not hear her name. Then it comes to him, maybe Mithrandir will know who she is. Jumping out of bed he hastily puts on fresh clothes, eats a small morning breakfast and leaves the house. The sun warms his body and brings a smile to his face.
As he is walking up to Gimli’s door he hears soft snoring coming from within. Letting him sleep he makes his way for Mithrandir’s dwelling. Arriving at Mithrandir’s he hears his voice coming from behind the house. He walks around the side and enters the back to see Mithrandir leaning over a table working on something. He cannot see what it is because he is blocking his view of what it is. He calls to him as he approaches, “Greetings Mithrandir.” Mithrandir stops what he is doing and turns towards the voice. Legolas stops a few feet away from him and bows.
Mithrandir calls him, “Greetings Legolas. How are you this fine morning?”
Legolas comes and sits next to him, “I am fairing well, thank you. I have come to seek knowledge of something. I mean someone.”
Mithrandir looks at him and then turns his attention back to what is on the table. He adds some paper to it and then some black powder and a long string. “Yes, what is it that you wish to know?”
Legolas looks around and then up, “While I was out last night I came across a woman, one of which I have not seen before.”
Mithrandir stops what he is doing and looks at Legolas, “Where did you see her and what does she look like?”
“She found me standing in the clearing, deep within the forest. The clearing that has the fallen tree with a bench carved into it. I was gazing at the stars and moon when I heard someone walking in the forest. When I look in the direction the sound is coming from I do not see anything. Hearing the footsteps again I look in that direction. That is when she walks out of the forest, she stops and looks at me, then comes to stand in front of me.”
Mithrandir holds up a hand, “Slow down Legolas these old ears cannot hear as fast as you are talking. All right, she found you. Now I wish to know what she looks like.” He smiles and lowers his hand to his lap.
Legolas takes a deep breath, closes his eyes, and instantly she is with, “H, “Her hair is a dark golden brown color han hangs loose down her back. Her eyes are blue color and have yellow specks in them. Her gown is dark blue and she does not wear shoes. She wears a silver crescent moon around her neck.”
Mithrandir’s face is overtaken by his smile, “Yes, I know of whom you talk about. She lives alone in the forest, grows her own food, and hunts alone as well. It is said that she is one of the best hunters in the Havens. I have seen her but once since Frodo and I have arrived. Her name is Isilhina and is seen usually only seen when the moon is out.”
Looking over his shoulder Legolas says more to himself than Mithrandir, “Moonchild.”
Mithrandir turns and looks at his face and sees something in his eyes, “And, may I ask, happened?”
Legolas looks at him and then blushes, “We talked about the stars and moon.” He averts his eyes from Mtihrandir knowing that he sees all.
Turning back to the work on the table a small smile plays on his lips. “If that is all then I do not wish to hear what was said.”
Legolas sighs and watches Mithrandir put fireworks together for an upcoming celebration. Suddenly feeling bored he stands to leave, “Well my friend I have things to do. Thank you for helping me this morning.”
Not turning away from his work, Mithrandir replies, “You are ome.ome. Let me know if you are to talk to her again. I wish to know more about her.”
Legolas puts a hand on his shoulder, “I will.” Instead of turning and going back the way he had come he walks around the table and enters the forest. The warmth of the day awakens the smells of the forest. Flowers, trees, and blooming bushes, fill his nose. Walking along the worn path, he hears someone walking towards him from the opposite direction he is walking in. Thinking that it is her, his stomach begins to knot and he looks around for a place to hide. Seeing a big tree with a thick trunk he runs and stands behind it. As the footsteps get closer and closer his stomach is now fluttering as though butterflies are in it. It is all that he can do to control his breathing from getting away from him.
The footsteps are so close now, that he sucks in his breath, and peeks around the tree and sees not her, but another elfkind. Letting the air escape from his mouth he sighs and feels disappointed. How he so wants to see her again.
The elf stops and looks at him, “Legolas why are you hiding behind that tree?”
Legolas clears his throat and smiles as he steps out from behind the tree, “Please forgive me Balhaldir. I thought that you might have been someone else. And I did not want them to see me.”
Balhaldir looks at him with a strange, but stern, look on his face, “There is no need to hide. Now be off with you!”
Legolas smiles and nods, “Good day to you.” As Balhaldir turns to leave Legolas lowers his head and shakes it. Heading back down the trail he can think of nothing but her. How am I going to find her? When am I going to see her again? Many more questions come to him as he walks down the path.
Deep within the forest he stops and looks around. He is lost in his own thoughts that he did not realize that he had come this far. The trees in this forest are big and old. The air is full of the smell of the forest. He takes a deep breath and clohis his eyes. Saying to him self and thought it is loud, “Smells as though I am home in Mirkwood.” Keeping his eyes closed he fills his chest of air and lets it out slowly. The sound of a bush branch being moved catches the attention of his left ear. Remaining still he listens for the sound to come again. And does within a matter of moments. Whomever it is they are moving closer to him. Without a warning he springs up and runs in the direction from which the sound is coming f He He hears a squeal and then the sound of footfalls running away from him. He turns a tree and sees the golden hair waving from side to side as she runs away from him. He pumps his legs harder and is soon closing the space between them. She looks over her shoulder at him and begins to laugh. He smiles and keeps pursuing her through the forest. Just when he thinks he is closer on her, she soon turns up to be even further away.
“Isilhina wait, I only wish to talk to you,” he yells to her as she continues to run.
Her laugh echoes through the forest and soon reaches his ears, “You can talk to me when you can catch me!” An even louder laugh comes to him and then there is silence. He can no longer hear her running in the forest. Stopping he looks around for any sign of movement and does not seen any. He continues to go in the direction from which he last saw her. The foliage is thick and almost makes it hard to look for tracks on the ground. Not being able to see any of her tracks he lifts his head to listen again. Still nothing. She has either fallen off of the Havens or is now hiding from him.
Moving forward he stops underneath a large tree and looks around. There is still no sound or movement. She knows this forest well and probably knows all of its hiding places. Putting his hands on his waist he decides to find the path back to the main living area.
What he does not know is that she is in the very tree he is standing under, watching his every move. Not daring to breathe nor move she looks at his face, the high cheekbones and his smooth skin. His long black hair that flows easily with the blow of the wind with his doe colored eyes. A smile comes to her face as she watches him looking this way and that for mov movement she might make. She remembers the night before and how his skin tasted upon her lips and tongue. Unconsciously licking her lips she can taste his skin again.
His moving away from the tree catches her attention and brings her out of her thoughts. As she watches him walk toward the path, she leans against a thick branch and stares at his body as he walks away from her. She likes the way his body moves underneath his clothing.
When he reaches the path he turns to look behind him to see if she is sneaking up behind him. Trying to see if he can see her better from here. There is still no movement or sound. Shaking his head, he begins down the path leading back to the village.
She waits until he is far from her and hops down from the tree. His scent is lingers in the air around the tree. She takes a deep breath and then walks home.
After walking a while, and thinking the whole time, he comes to the main living area. He sees Gimli at one of the vendors buying food for this evening's meal. He approaches him and helps him with his items.
As the both of them are walking back to their dwellings Gimli asks him, “Legolas what is going on with you? You were distracted last night and even more so right now?”
Legolas smiles and then says, “I’m sorry Gimli. I should not hide this from you. Last night when you asked me if someone was there at the clearing with me, and I said there was not! Someone was there with me. The woman with whom you thought you had seen. I was looking at the night sky and she came out of the forest. She is beautiful and, and, amazing. None like I have ever seen before. She held my hand and then.” He looked away from Gimli and then back at him, “Then she stroked my face and my ears with her fingers then her lips. I have never felt such pleasure in all the years I have lived. My body comes alive with the smallest touch of her fingers. Now she consumes my every thought. My ear continues to burn when I think about her. I do not know what to do.” He looks forward as they continue to walk.
Gimli’s mouth comes open while his friend tells hll tll that she has done to him. He pictures, in detail, the actual molesting that this woman has done to his friend and his face flushes and his blood begins to race through his own veins. He begins to sweat and lick his dry lips. He looks at Legolas and he sees that he is licking his lips as well.
Only after Legolas goes quiet Gimli asks in his own husky voice, “She did this to you while the both of you were sitting on the bench? And you did not do anything to her in return?”
Legolas staring off into his own memory answers, “I was powerless to her touch. It is though she has cast some kind of spell upon me. I am unable to think and or move any part of my body. Well except for one. He has a mind of his own.” His face turns crimson as he smiles.
Gimli shaking his head, “Aye, so does mine. Do you know who she is? Where does she live?”
With an intent look on his face Legolas tells him, “I went to Mithrandir and asked him if he knew of her. He told me that her name is Isilhina and that she lives in the deepest part of the forest. She is often not seen with the exception of when the moon comes out to play. He told me that that is when she is seen more times than any.”
Back at his dwelling Gimli unpacks his bags and asks Legolas, “Tonight is the second night of the new moon are you going to go out and search for her again tonight?”
Legolas puts a bag of flour on the shelf, “Yes, I will be going out again tonight. Though I do not know if I will be able to find her. It is as though she does not want me to find her it is she who does the finding. While walking in the forest today I saw her and pursed a her her. She eluded me and taunted me with her laugh the whole time I chased her. She is very smart and knows her way around this forest.”
Looking at Legolas, Gimli suggests, “Then do not pursue her. It sounds as though it is she who does the pursuing!” He grabs a bag of tea and puts it in the jar on the table.
Legolas’ face begins to take on a smile that engulfs his whole face, “My friend I think you are right. She came to me last night I did not go to her. I shall make her pursue me.”
Gimli asks, “So, um, what else did she do to you?” A glimmer comes to his eyes as he looks at his friend.
Legolas smiles at him, “That is all. For someone, I will not name names, came looking for me and interrupted her molesting of me. I would appreciate it if you would not do so this night.”
With a bright red face Gimli goes, “Sorry, didn’t mean to interrupt. And how was I to know what you were doing?”
Legolas laughs at his friend’s redness on the face and slaps him on the back, “It is all right, I shall forgive you this once. I know that you did not interrupt us intentionally. You did not know as to what we were doing. And it was all that I could do to gain control of myself before you came to me.”
The both of them laugh. Gimli made them a meal of sweet red meat, vegetables and bread. They eat and talk about the adventures they have been on together and their lives up until now. As darkneslls lls Legolas begins to feel restless. And is unable to sit still or stand for any length of time.
