This story has been floating around in my mind and demanded to be written. It features a darker Elladan than we are used to and a young vulnerable Legolas. For the purpose of this story, I have decided (with some advice from the great and wonderful Min.) that the age of majority for an elf is 500 years. Legolas will reach his majority during the year of their betrothal. NO underage sex!!! NO non-con and NO rape!!!
Feedback: Would be wonderful and makes me type faster!
Summary: Elrohir teaches Elladan some manners.
Chapter Eighteen
Two Weeks Later
Elladan sighed as he watched Legolas leave the training field after another lesson with the sword. Since the prince had returned to his own rooms, he had refused to speak with the elf warrior unless it concerned his training. It wasn’t from Elladan’s lack of trying; it was Legolas’ reluctance to engage in even the most innocent of conversations.
(Who could blame him?) Elladan realized his callousness and lack of caring about the prince’s feelings had caused the newfound trust between them to crumble until there was nothing left.
“A piece of mithril for your thoughts, brother,” Elrohir said, startling Elladan out of his contemplation.
“I have ruined things between us,” the elf warrior said, nodding towards Legolas.
“That you have, and you can only blame yourself and your cruel words,” Elrohir agreed, none too nicely.
“Do *not* start with me this day, Elrohir, I am not in the mood,” Elladan warned with a hiss.
“I have not even started, but you *will* listen to me, brother,” the elf knight replied stepping closer to Elladan.
“You made your feelings quite clear in my room when you caught us together, Elrohir, and I will repeat what I said to you that day: ‘Stay away from Legolas or you *will* be sorry’.”
Elrohir laughed at the warning and shook his head. “Since when have I allowed *you* to dictate who I spent time with? Your warning means little to me, especially when I am the one looking after the prince’s well being. He will talk to me while he spurns your every attempt to speak with him.”
Elladan threw down his sword in anger and grabbed Elrohir’s tunic. “Legolas belongs to me, not you, and I would remind you of this before you take things too far, Elrohir!”
The elf knight pushed Elladan away and shook his head. “You will never learn, will you? Legolas is not a *possession*, brother. If you will remember, your declaration of that was overheard, and now Legolas knows exactly what he means to you. I don’t blame him for seeking others out to spend his time with. Your behavior is despicable and I am the one who plans to teach you some manners.”
Elladan snorted and narrowed his eyes. “If you think you are elf enough to do it, go ahead and try.”
Elrohir was on Elladan with a quickness the elf warrior did not expect. Caught by surprise, he was unable to stop most of the blows the elf knight inflicted to his face and body. By the time he recovered from the shock of the sudden attack, Elladan began to fight back with vengeance; his anger took over and he landed a few blows of his own before Elrohir stood and gave the elf warrior a chance to recover.
“I think I am just the elf to do it,” Elrohir hissed.
Elladan spit the blood out of his mouth and wiped his lips before growling as he stood and rushed his brother. Elrohir landed on the ground hard, but took advantage of the elf warrior’s position and kneed him in the groin to gain the upper hand. While Elladan writhed in pain on the ground, the elf knight landed some excellent blows, blows meant to cause pain and leave marks that would last for more than a few days.
Picking Elladan up by his tunic, Elrohir placed his face in front of his brother’s. “You need to change your ways, my twin, or you will end up a very lonely and sad elf. I suggest you try to fix things with Legolas before the king arrives. This little scuffle today is nothing compared to what Thranduil will do to you once he finds out what you have done.”
Elrohir dropped Elladan back to the ground and walked off, leaving the elf warrior in pain and alone.
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
Legolas had gotten half way to his rooms before he realized he was still carrying his sword. Cursing silently, he turned to make his way back to the armory. When he reached the training field, he saw Elladan lying on the ground looking like he had been in a fight. The prince froze, not sure if he should approach him or ignore him. He was still angry, but his love for the half-elf had not lessened. Legolas could not just leave him there, so he approached the elf warrior slowly.
“Are you well?” the prince asked to alert Elladan of his presence.
The elf warrior rolled over to face the prince, relieved that Legolas was at least talking to him. “I am well enough, but would appreciate some help standing.”
The prince wasted no time as he assisted Elladan to an upright position. “Who did this to you, Elladan?”
“Would you believe me if I said it was my own twin?” Elladan asked, not taking his eyes off Legolas.
“Aye, Elrohir has been angry with you since he caught us,” the prince replied with a blush. “I will help you to the healer or to your rooms. Which will it be?”
“There is no need for a visit to a healer, Ernilen, my rooms will be fine,” Elladan replied, trying his best to be friendly.
“I am not *your* prince,” Legolas said in a scathing reply.
“I only meant to address you properly, Legolas,” the elf warrior said softly. “Will you not accept my apologies for speaking as I did? It was wrong of me to presume.”
“I do not wish to speak about it, Elladan, and if you continue to do so, I will leave you right here and on your own,” the prince threatened with a hiss.
Elladan sighed and remained quiet until they reached his door. “Thank you for your help, Prince. Won‘t you come in for just a few minutes? We need to talk. Allow me to explain….”
“There is nothing to explain, Elladan,” Legolas replied as he turned to go. “You made your feelings quite clear. I am not foolish enough to allow myself to be used again.”
The elf warrior watched Legolas disappear down the hall without looking back. Elladan closed his door and made it to the bathing chamber to clean himself up.
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
Elrohir opened his brother’s door and made himself comfortable in the chair next to Elladan’s bed. Now that he had gotten his twin’s attention, he hoped that he could get him to listen to some reason.
When Elladan exited the bathing chamber, he gave Elrohir a glare. “Did you come back to do more damage?”
“Not at all, I came to see if you were ready to talk about your behavior and how you might improve it,” the elf knight answered with a smirk.
“And I suppose you think you’re the one who is going to point out the error of my ways?” Elladan asked sarcastically. “Wasn’t your mission complete when you left me there on the training field?”
“No, that was only to get your attention and teach you that you are not any more special than anyone else when it comes to treatment of others,” Elrohir replied evenly. “How did you get back here so swiftly? I meant to arrive before you did.”
“I had help,” Elladan answered quietly.
“Help? From whom?” the elf warrior demanded.
“Legolas helped me to my rooms, but refused to allow me to apologize for my actions towards him.”
“I can’t blame him. After the things you said, I would never speak to you again,” Elrohir pointed out. “You could have been less cruel, but it has been so long since you have acted like my brother that I don’t know who you are anymore, Elladan.”
The elf warrior was silent and did not meet his twin’s eyes.
“Talk to me, Elladan; tell me your thoughts and what you carry around in your heart that keeps you from being the kind and honorable elf you used to be. Maybe you can be that elf again if you will just share your fears with someone,” Elrohir suggested softly.
“I fear nothing!” Elladan hissed looking at his brother once again.
“Fine, you fear nothing,” Elrohir replied as he placed a hand on his twin’s shoulder. “I know there is something wrong, Elladan. Everyone does. If you continue to hide your feelings, you will never be truly happy, and you will spend eternity alone.”
“Legolas will not defy the Valar, nor will his father,” the elf warrior said quietly. “I will not be alone.”
“Aye, Legolas will do his duty, but he will never be happy, especially if you only wish to possess him,” Elrohir replied seriously. “Tell me about Tholvel. What happened in Lorien that caused you to change so?”
“He was my best friend. Every time we visited, he and I spent hours playing in the forest together,” Elladan admitted softly, deciding to share what really happened with his twin. “Our last visit before our majority I felt my feelings change from those of a friend to those of a lover.”
“Why did you not tell me this before?” the elf knight asked, surprised that Elladan had kept this a secret from him.
“I was too embarrassed after what happened to tell even you, Elrohir,” Elladan explained looking at his brother with sad eyes. “I told him I loved him, but apparently he was not inclined to return the affection I so willingly offered. I kissed him, and he was horrified. Tholvel was interested in maids, not elves. He left me standing there as he ran away to tell everyone he could what I had said and done.
“I was too hurt to confide in anyone, including you. I swore that day that I would never open my heart to another ever again, but it seems like I can’t even manage that.”
“If I had known, Elladan, I would have done something about that arrogant elf. Tholvel was never worth your love, even when you were just friends,” Elrohir said, moving to sit by his twin on the bed.
“It is too late to do anything, but the memory of the hurt lives inside my heart. It keeps it shielded from any further pain,” the elf warrior explained. “I know you don’t understand why I spoke the way I did that day. Legolas was too close to tearing down that wall around my heart. It was self preservation. As long as I thought about him as a possession he was no danger to me.”
“And now that he won’t speak to you at all, it threatens you, as well?” Elrohir asked, trying to sympathize with his twin.
“Aye, my heart yearns for him,” Elladan replied with a humorless laugh. “It is what I deserve for being so cruel to him, isn’t it? Do not think that I do not wish to possess him, but I want him to possess me, too. Possess me in love and our bond. A bond that may not occur now.”
“The bond will occur, Elladan, but it is up to you to make it one of love,” Elrohir replied. “I told you before that Legolas loves you. I am not wrong about that.”
“Yet he spends more time with you every day and refuses to even talk to me,” the elf warrior answered. “I do not know where to even start making things up to him. Whether he likes it or not, I will win back his trust and perhaps his heart.”
“If anyone can, it is you, Elladan,” the elf knight encouraged. “Legolas is not Tholvel, remember that above all else. You have less than a month before his majority celebration. Lavish him with gifts, plan your day around his and show up when he doesn’t expect you…send him love notes.”
Elladan nodded, but looked terrified. “I wouldn’t know what to say.”
Elrohir laughed and hugged his twin. “There are plenty of books in the library full of poetry, brother. Find some that you like and write them in your own hand. Find the best rose in the garden and have the note and flower delivered with a messenger to his door.”
“An excellent idea, even if it did come from you,” Elladan teased with a smile.
“Be nice, brother. If this is to succeed, you will need my help,” Elrohir reminded him. “Just so you know, I will be asking him to dance at the ball.”
The elf warrior growled at his twin, who made his way out of the door quickly, laughing as he fled.
