Summary: Sometimes the one we trust the least is ourselves.
A/N: Written from prompt: Erestor/Glorfindel - trust - Elrond encourages Erestor to trust in Glorfindel and tell him the truth about himself

Tell him, Erestor,” Elrond said fervently. “He deserves to know. You deserve to have someone besides me that knows. You can’t keep him in the dark forever.”

“Yes I can,” Erestor argued. Elrond thought the older man looked as a force of nature silhouetted against the window. A storm raged outside, occasionally sending bolts of lightning across the sky. In his rage, Erestor almost looked as if he was calling the bolts of energy to flick across the clouds.

“Erestor,” Elrond argued. “It is almost time, my friend. In a few years we will be sailing. You have to tell him now.”

“I have to do nothing, child,” Erestor flung the glass in hand against the wall, breathing rapidly.

Elrond sat stoically through the tantrum, not even blinking as the glass shattered by his head. “I am not the one acting as a child, Erestor,” Elrond remarked dryly.

Erestor leaned against the glass, hands spread wide against the cold glass. He could feel the thrum of the rain against the skin of his palms. “He doesn’t need to know.”

“Don’t you trust him?” Elrond tried, knowing he was fighting dirty and not caring. “Don’t you trust Glorfindel with this? You know he wouldn’t reject you because of your past, because of who your family is. He loves you too much for that. He already knows that you are hiding things from him. Don’t you think that hurts him?”

“It’s not him I don’t trust, Elrond,” Erestor whispered, watching as his breath fogged up the cold glass. “It’s me.”
