Chapter 17
Title: Reading Between the Lines (17/?)
Rating: NC-17
Pairing: Orophin/Erestor, Glorfindel/Lindir
Warnings: AU, anal, oral, rimming, sarcasm, bad pick up lines
Disclaimer: If they were mine I would be rich. Seeing as I am broke, they are obviously not mine. But good lord do they make dreams worth while!
Summary: Orophin's first visit to Imladris is fairly uneventful and boring until he stumbles upon a certain black haired advisor in the library. Now his goal is to win Erestor's heart before he heads home again.

“See? I was right again, was I not?”
“Of course, brother. That really was not as bad as it could have been,” Orophin said, trying to humor his brother. He looked over at Erestor, walking beside him, and smiled before taking his hand in his own. “What do you think? Are you happy with the results?”
“I am. Lord Elrond did not seem as surprised as I figured he would be. That frightens me about my own judge of character if this did not strike him.”
“I am sure he has heard the rumors,” Haldir assured him. “But it is also his job to not be opinionated in these matters. The outcome was good, though. Nothing too bad.”
“I am thankful for that. I would like to return to my rooms for a few hours to give Lord Elrond the chance to stop by and speak with Glorfindel. He will not be happy about being forced to stay away from me with extra patrol duty on top of it.”
“If you do not mind, I would like to stay with you.”
“Of course, Orophin! I would love your company!”
“And that,” Haldir sneered. “Is my queue to find something else to do. Have a good day, both of you.”
“We will!” they said together.

Glorfindel flopped down on the bed and sighed. He was sure nothing too bad would come of all of this. After all, he had not hurt Erestor, other than wounding his pride. But one could never tell in these situations. Because of such, he had been pacing and sleeping only fitfully since the messenger delivered the note that the four elves were speaking to Lord Elrond this morning in regards to his actions.
He was angry. That much he knew. What he didn’t know was who he was really angry with. On one side, he was angry with Erestor for taking this to Lord Elrond and potentially causing him a lot of trouble. But he also knew he had brought this on himself.
“What is wrong with me?!” he asked no one. “I had Lindir. Well, that was a joke. He did not trust me. Who would blame me for giving up on that relationship? But… I really did not need to give up on it by going after Erestor so aggressively. Which I guess is putting it mildly. Ah! Look at me now! This is driving me mad enough to talk to myself!”
He stood and tossed a pillow across the room. Standing for a moment and watching where it landed, he sighed before pacing again. The waiting was driving him mad.
Hours seemed to pass before he heard a knock on the door. He sucked in his breath deep before responding. “Enter.” His words came out weak.
Elrond stepped inside the room slowly, nodding his head in respect. Glorfindel returned the gesture before motioning for him to sit at the small table by the window looking out onto Imladris. The two elves sat down across from each other, Glorfindel crossing his legs nervously and looking out the window. Two elflings played together outside, laughing and running in the grass. He smiled.
“Ahem.” Glorfindel was snapped back to reality as Elrond cleared his throat.
“Yes, Lord Elrond?”
“As you know, some heavy charges were made against you this morning. Do you care to defend yourself?”
“No. I have done a lot of thinking during the night and I do not know what is wrong with me. I am not like this with anyone. And I have never been attracted to Erestor, either. So why I feel these urges all of a sudden…”
“You are hurt,” Elrond interrupted. “Lindir did not trust you. You felt betrayed. And to retaliate, you decided to betray him in return. Erestor was an easy target, or so you thought. When you were rejected a second time… Let us just say I understand the feelings, if not the actions.”
Glorfindel smiled sheepishly and looked down to his own feet, now both planted firmly on the floor. “So what is to become of me?”
“Oddly, those who complained were more worried about you getting help than being punished. We all know this is not like you. So, for now, you are to stay away from Erestor and Orophin. You will be given extra patrolling duties, which should keep you occupied for some time. And I am adding to this. Try to rekindle your friendship with Haldir. I think right now you could use a friend. And asking you to go back to Lindir I believe is too much to ask. But you may want to talk to him, for the good of you both.”
“I want nothing more than to talk to Lindir, but he will not have me, I am afraid.”
“Are you sure of this?”
The door to the room slowly creaked open, Lindir carefully pushing it in hopes of not being noticed. Waiting outside the room he heard his name mentioned, but could make out little else of what they were saying. His curiosity had gotten the better of him and he decided to take the chance at spying.
Neither elf appeared to hear him enter as they continued talking.
“Not completely sure. But with how he has reacted to me recently, I can expect no less. Not having him with me is killing me inside, Lord Elrond.”
“Why is that?”
“I never thought I would find love. My entire life seems to have rolled past me with nothing promising in my personal life. No matter what I accomplished, it all seemed pointless. I really thought I was destined to be a warrior and nothing else, not an elf that would find love. And then I met Lindir. Something… happened. I cannot explain it, I never could.” He chuckled. “I never believed in love at first sight, either.”
“But you discovered it for yourself.”
“Oh yes. I watched him play and listened to him sing, and the entire world melted away. I felt like I did not have a care in the world, not while this beautiful song bird stood before me spilling out his heart for the entire population. Nothing I had done in the past or the things I had wanted to do in the future mattered anymore. All I knew was this was the one. This was the elf I could spend my life with, if he would give me the time of day.
And imagine my surprise when he blushed at my compliments. I was even more surprised when I awoke the next morning to find his head resting on my chest. I felt complete for the first time in my life. And the night he threw me out… I have never felt more empty or alone in all of my days.”
Elrond smiled and opened his mouth to respond, only to be cut off without warning. His head turned towards the door quickly at the new voice in their conversation.
“Glorfindel! I am so sorry!”
“Lindir?! How long have you been standing there?”
“For all of it. And I am so glad I did!” Lindir closed the door behind him and made his way to Glorfindel. As the taller elf stood, Lindir threw his arms around his shoulders and fell into him. “I am such a fool. And I have missed you! Oh, Glorfindel! Can you ever forgive me? Will you have me back?”
“That is the easiest choice I have ever had to make.” He pushed Lindir away slightly, only to lean down and take his mouth in the deepest kiss either elf had ever been involved in. Elrond smiled as he watched the two embrace and quietly took his leave of the couple.
“That could not have been easier,” he thought to himself.
