Interlude 2
Interlude 2
The halls of Imladris lay bare as many of the elves chose to rest from the night’s prior activities. Nianna strode through them uninterrupted. Arriving at her destination, she knocked lightly on the door before her.
Several moments passed with no answer. Nianna knocked once again and continued to wait for an answer. Pressing her ear to the door, she heard no movement in the room.
Making a decision, she opened the door and peeked in.
“Merry?...Pippin?...Sam?” Nianna called out. No answer was forth coming. Listening intently she realized that no one occupied the room.
Closing the door, Nianna walked away towards the kitchens the second most likely place where the hobbits were most likely to be found.
She smiled at Arwen as the two met from opposite directions.
[“Good morning, Nianna”]
[“To you as well, my friend. Have you seen the little ones?”] She asked.
Arwen smiled. [“Bilbo is still resting from last night. I saw Frodo this morning before Gandalf escorted him to the council.”]
[“And have you seen the other three?”]
Arwen shook her head. [“I just came from the kitchens and the little ones were not there.”]
[“I wonder where they could be.”]
Only a few moments passed before the two elves began to laugh softly.
[“Do you think your father will be…upset?”]
Arwen shrugged her shoulders and both continued to laugh.

Boromir stared at the little creature. “You carry the fates of us all, little one. If this is indeed the will of the council, then Gondor will see it done.”
Suddenly the rustling of nearby bushes startled the group. “Heh!” Sam jumps from behind the bushes and rushes towards Frodo. “Mr. Frodo is not goin’ anywhere without me!”
A small smile graced Lord Elrond’s features. “No indeed, it is hardly possible to separate you even when he is summoned to a secret council and you are not.”
Sam looked down in slight shame though he did not regret his actions.
“Wait, we are coming too!” The other two hobbits rushed from their hiding spots behind tall pillars to stand beside their friends.
Merry crossed his arms across his chest to show his resolve. “You’d have to send us home tied up in a sack to stop us!”
Pippin copied his actions. “Anyway you need people of intelligence on this sort of mission, quest…thing.”
Merry leaned over to whisper in his ear. “Well, that rules you out, Pip.”
Elrond gazed at the small gathering of representatives of Arda. “Nine companions…So be it! You shall be the Fellowship of the Ring!”
“Great!” Pippin said excited. “Where are we going?”
Sam turned to Frodo suddenly and whispered to him. “What of Nianna?”
Frodo had been thinking along the same lines and looked up to Gandalf who stood behind him.
Gandalf, Aragorn and Legolas both had heard Sam’s exclamation but remained quite. Gandalf simply nodded at the little hobbit before him and rested his hand on Frodo’s shoulder.
