The Fire Dance
Ch167
A few weeks later........
Thoniel walked to his door, then paused. There, on the floor, was a
box wrapped with ribbons and a note. The healer reached down and took
the note, a gentle smile gracing the corners of his lips as he read....
~You are so very fair that it is hard for me to breathe when I am near
you.~
The healer slowly tucked the unsigned note in his pocket, opened the
box...then screamed
~*~*~
Elrond rushed into the healing wing, then dropped his jaw "What happened!"
Tordren shook his head in disbelief "Some admirer gifted Thoniel with
an adolescent porcupine. The elf placed it in a box and when Thoniel
opened it, well, the poor little thing was startled and..."
Elrond groaned "It threw its quills"
"Aye my lord. The healers that lives in the wing heard him scream and
brought him here. We have removed most of the quills that were
embedded in his face and we were just about to assess the ones on his
forearms. T'is a good thing that Thoniel is swift...he blocked his eyes
and neck, had he not been so quick, more quills would have hit his
face instead of his arms"
Elrond shook his head "And you say this was from an admirer? Are you
sure it was not a cruel attack?"
Tordren arched his brow "This was the note attached to the box"
Elrond sighed as he read it "I will take over Tordren" then winced
when he approached the young healer and spied the remaining quills
that adorned his face and majority of his forearms.
"I will be removing the rest of them personally Thoniel, and I will be
checking the spots where the other healers removed them, porcupine
quills are serious, the quills have barbs on them that face backwards
and...Thoniel...oh penneth calm down now, there is no need for you to
weep, I will care for you"
The young healer took a deep breath as he tried to compose himself,
then winced as he spoke "They...hurt"
"I know penneth, be happy it was not a full adult, their quills are
thicker and longer, these look to be around 3 inches only and..."
"Only?!"
Elrond gently laid his hand on Thoniel's knee "Calm down penneth and
let me get to work"
Once all the quills were removed and counted, Elrond walked over "I
have treated the entry sites and you should heal fine, you received 42
all together from your...uh, gift. I want you to stay here for the
night...Tell me, do you have any thoughts as to who this 'admirer' is?"
Thoniel groaned as he laid back on the healing bed "Oh I have a pretty
good idea as to who it is"
"Tell me then and I will have him reprimanded, this was cruel and..."
*Sigh* "Nay my lord do not bother. I know there was no malice behind
his actions"
"Are you sure you would not like for me to intervene?"
Thoniel nodded "I am sure my lord. He was more then likely trying to
give me a companion and saw the quills as...well, some have huan or
meoi as pets to defend their homes...*sigh*...he is warrior my lord"
Elrond shook his head "Mmmm...well, if this elf gives you another gift
and you are harmed as a result, I will demand his name"
"I understand my lord. Oh, my lord?"
"Aye?"
"Where is the porcupine now?"
"The little thing scurried into your chamber, I was going to have a
few of the lavan healers retrieve it"
Thoniel slowly shook his head "Nay my lord saes, just leave it be"
"Are you sure? When you return to your chamber in the morning, you
could end up right back here with more quills"
"Just leave it my lord, I frightened the poor thing when I roughly
opened the box, that is why I ended up here. Perhaps you could have
one of the lavan healers place food in my chamber for it, but I would
rather it be left where it is"
"Alright penneth, I will see to it"
"Hannon le my lord"
~*~*~
Once Elrond had spoken to the healers that treat animals, he entered
his chamber and flopped down on Thranduil's lap "He is keeping the
porcupine and would not tell me that is was Taurcalad that gifted it
to him"
Thranduil chuckled as he wrapped his arms around him "He held secret
the warriors name ay?"
*Sigh* "Aye, he did"
"You look stressed Rondy, what can I do to help"
Elrond arched his brow, then snuggled Thranduil's neck and whispered
"Where is my dress"
~*~*~
Later that evening, Taurcalad watched as Gwee approached Thoniel's
chamber door, then hung something on it and left. Dropping down from
the tree, he walked close and read the beautifully carved sign........
~:~ Enter with care, porcupine within ~:~
The warrior lightly shook his head and sighed, then headed for the
healing wing. Once he got there, he quietly peeked his head into
Thoniel's room.....
"Hissssss"
"Humph...I should have given you a snake with all the hissing you give me"
"Hissss...get...get out"
"Nay"
Thoniel blinked nervously when the warrior closed the door, and then
locked it
"I...I said get out!"
Taurcalad slowly walked up to the side of the bed, then sat down "And
I said nay. I am sorry that my little gift hurt you. Quills aside,
porcupines are rather nice little creatures and make fine pets...they
are quiet, independent, affectionate..."
"Hisss...I...I should teach it to stab you when you come near!"
The warrior smiled as he reached out, careful not to touch where the
quill injuries were, then caressed Thoniel's cheek "You know, hissing
at me will not deter me...we Avari like growling and hissing...and
purring. Perhaps one day you will purr for me Thoniel, I would like to
hear you purr"
The healer swallowed hard as he pulled the bed sheet up more to cover
his bare chest "Ge...get out Taurcalad"
*Sigh* "Alright, as you wish my fair healer, I shall go for now...and
I promise that my next gift will not harm you"
"I...I do not want your gifts, why are you giving me gifts you...you
need to leave, get out Taurcalad!"
When the door shut and Thoniel was finally alone, the young healer
slowly lifted the sheet and peeked at the bulge within his sleep
pants, then dropped his head back down upon the pillow and whimpered
"Oh...oh nay, this...this can NOT be happening"

not really "Throw" there quills, they brush, or *snort* Thwack them
