***************************

One week later…

Legolas rolled the wine around in his mouth for a moment before swallowing it. Crinkling his nose, he placed it down on the table again and went back to watching his Adar neatly fold his clothes for packing.

“I can tell you one thing, Ada, I will be glad to get home and have some decent wine for a change.”

Thranduil stopped packing and turned to sit on the bed. He watched Legolas trace the edge of his glass with a finger for a long moment before sighing. “You are not going to be that happy to get home.”

“Oh?”

“Things are going to change, Legolas. And change a lot.”

“How so?”

“It is about time you learned your rightful place in this world. Your bratty attitude is going to have to be left behind.”

“Bratty? Ada!”

“You know you are. I have allowed you do to as you please for far too long, and that is going to change. I just hope it is not too late already.”

“My rightful place is to be a prince. Unfortunately, I am surrounded by elves that are no better than mere men. It is the fault of neither of us, but in my opinion you are too kind.”

“Where I am too kind, Legolas, you are too cruel.”

“Than we balance things out, do we not?”

“No, we do not. After all that has happened here and all of the grief you have caused, you can only think about finding decent wine. Tell me, Legolas, do you regret anything you have done here?”

“Yes, I do.”

“And what would that be?”

“Bedding that horrifying marchwarden, that is what. I felt disgusting after that and spent an hour scrubbing my skin raw in a bath. Really, Ada, what did you see in him?”

Thranduil felt his face warming with anger, but worked hard to keep himself calm. “And Rumil? You do not regret what you did to him?”

“I regret not getting to finish it. After what he did to me.”

“You mean rejecting you?”

“No, I mean tying me naked to a tree and torturing me!”

“You were unhurt, Legolas. And once free, the first thing you did was kiss him and ask him to court you. You liked it. And you were angered that he chose his brothers over you. You knew that punishment was too much.”

“It was not too much, it was too little. I was being kind. If I had wanted to go overboard I would have taken an arrow and shot of his little…”

“Legolas! Enough of that!”

“Tell me, Ada, what did you feel as you were being bounced off your arse by Haldir? Did you feel undying love for him? Were you impressed by his strength and courage? Or did you want to rip off his face for humiliating you?”

“I… I wanted to hurt him, I will admit. But the difference is that I did not. You took advantage of your place and hurt Rumil. And I am a fool for allowing you to do so.”

“Why? Because now Haldir will never take you back?”

Thranduil stood silent. He could feel his heart twisting in his chest. Was Legolas right? Was he only angry about the punishment because it occurred to him too late that Haldir would probably hate him afterwards? He had agreed to the punishment without hesitating at first, and it was not until Haldir stood up to him that he realized it was wrong. He squeezed his eyes shut, unable to help the feeling of his own foolishness.

“So I was correct.” Thranduil opened his eyes to see Legolas standing in front of him. “And yet you say I am bratty and cruel.”

Thranduil’s anger fired him. Without thinking, he reached back and swung his fist as hard as he could push it, connecting it with Legolas’s nose. The prince squealed and fell to the floor at his Adar’s feet, looking up with pain in his eyes as he wiped blood from his face. Thranduil’s jaw dropped as he realized he had just punched his own son.

“I… I…” He looked around frantically for something to clean the blood off of his son’s face with. Settling for an unfolded shirt, he grabbed it and knelt down, tilting Legolas’s head back in an attempt to stop the bleeding. “I am sorry.”

Legolas did not answer. He just let the tears run down his cheeks as he stared at his Adar.

Several silent moments passed before the bleeding stopped. Thranduil discarded the bloodied garment, and stood. Legolas looked down to the ground. With a sigh, he turned and left the talan.

***************************

Rumil walked across his talan several times, pleased that he was healed enough to walk normally again. His head swam with a desire to get things back to normal and move on with his life. He figured in a day or two he would be cleared to do light duty on patrol again. It would be boring, but it would be a start in the right direction.

His pacing stopped when he heard a knock at the door. He smiled, thinking Orophin had come early for their walk. It would be his first time out of his talan since his punishment had been dealt and he could hardly wait. His brother would be over an hour early, but he didn’t mind. “Enter!” he chirped.

The door slowly opened. Rumil turned, his smile fading as his eyes met Thranduil’s.

“You were expecting someone?”

“Yes, Orophin. Although it is rather early for him yet.”

“Do you have a moment for me, then?”

“I guess. Please, sit.”

Thranduil walked to the chair that Rumil had gestured to and sat. He waited for Rumil to join him. When he did, he looked over and allowed a sheepish smile.

“I… well, I feel you are due an apology from me.”

“For what?”

“Your punishment was too harsh. I allowed my son’s desire for revenge to get out of hand.”

“Revenge? What do you mean?”

“He will not admit to it, but I believe he wanted to punish you for rejecting him, and doing it so publicly. Legolas is used to getting his way all of the time. Although that is going to change.”

“I do not believe that is possible. You are too late to change him.”

“I may be. But even still. The next time you see us, Legolas will not be the same elf.”

“No one is the same anymore, I fear.”

“You are right. This has been a rather eventful visit. And I apologize for that as well.”

“It is Legolas that should be apologizing, not you. He turned our worlds up side down, and I do not think we will recover for a long time.”

Thranduil nodded. “We leave tomorrow, so you will have a chance to start.”

“Is that why you came?”

“Yes. I wanted to apologize before I lost my chance. And I also wanted to say goodbye. We will be leaving before the sun rises, and I expect most of Lothlorien will still be asleep then. Which I believe is for the best.”

“Will you be saying goodbye to Haldir?”

“No. I was hoping you would say it for me, I do not think I could face him without embarrassing myself.”

“I am afraid I cannot pass on your message.”

“Why not?”

“Haldir and I have not spoken in a week. And I do not plan to break that silence any time soon.”

“He is your brother, Rumil. What could he have done to upset you?”

“He bedded Legolas. And I apologize if you did not know.”

“I did. I did not expect Haldir to tell you, though. It is rather honorable that he did.”

“Honorable? You call it honorable to bed the one who has caused your world to flip into a hole?”

“He loves you, Rumil. He would die for you, and you know that. It was a moment of weakness. Allow him that much.”

“He is a fool and nothing more than an overgrown elfling.”

“Maybe so, but he needs you. And you need him. You have your weaknesses, too. And he has forgiven you those, has he not?”

“Yes. But this is different.”

“Different how? Rumil, you have caused him great pain during my visit, also.”

“How so?”

“You hurt Legolas. And from that one act of anger, that one joke, as you say, you did so much. He almost took the punishment for you. When you stepped forward, his world fell apart, too. I made a foolish choice, and in defense of you he banished me from his life. He says he felt nothing for me, but I do not believe him. There was something in his eyes. He blames you not for anything you have done to hurt him during your life. Rumil… allow him his moment of weakness.”

Rumil turned his eyes to the ground, staring at his own feet. He knew Thranduil was right.

“Yes. He has sacrificed much for me, and has been willing to sacrifice more. But I cannot help but be angry with him.”

He stood then and walked across the talan. Stopping at the far end, he turned back, deciding to allow it to turn into an even pace. Thranduil stood.

“Your anger is justified. And you will understand Haldir’s anger in the future. You both made mistakes. But you both must learn to forgive. You and Orophin are everything to Haldir. If none of this had happened, do you think Haldir would have come back to Mirkwood with me?”

“Of course. If he loved you.”

“No, Rumil. I do not believe he would have. It would have meant leaving the two most important elves in his life behind. No mate is worth that to him. Be as angry as you wish, get your revenge if you want. But do not shut him out.”

Rumil stopped pacing and stood before Thranduil. “Revenge?”

“Well, do not be too harsh if you decide on that. I am not sure tying him to a tree would do either of you any good.” He chuckled.

Rumil smiled. “I like to make my revenge equal, and tying him to a tree as I did Legolas is not fitting. And not completely to my taste, either.”

Thranduil laughed. “Then I fear what you shall do instead!”

Rumil allowed a mischievous smile to grace his fair features. “Equaling it out would be good.”

“What do you…?” Thranduil’s words were cut short as Rumil leaned in and claimed his mouth. Feeling the younger elf’s hands on his sides, his eyes opened wide with shock. Putting his hands on Rumil’s shoulders, he lightly pushed, freeing himself from the kiss. “Rumil, I do not think this is appropriate!”

“I am not asking you to bind yourself to me. Haldir… let’s just say he took what was mine. I grew rather fond of Legolas during our little play time. So you see, I sacrificed something for him, too. He had what was mine, and I would like to have what was his.”

Thranduil blinked in shock. “So I am your revenge?”

“Yes. Do not be offended, Thranduil. I do find you attractive, although I only wish to bed you once and be done with it.”

“Honest, are we not?”

“Always.”

Rumil laced his fingers into Thranduil’s hair and pushed his head in towards him. Their mouths meeting again, Thranduil tried lightly to protest and pull away, but found Rumil’s grip to be strong on his hair. He shrugged it off in his mind and thought, “Why not? I will not be here for the after math.”

He gave in and allowed Rumil to pull him backwards to the bed. Their lips separated for a moment as Thranduil pulled off his robes. “And if Orophin shows up for our little one time fling?”

“He can join in if he wants, I do not care. Get on the bed.”

Thranduil burst out laughing. Rumil ignored him and pushed him down. Straddling his lap, he went to work kissing and sucking on his neck. Thranduil’s laughter gave way to light moans as the younger elf toyed with him. He could feel Rumil hardening against his stomach. Pushing a hand between them, he gripped his elfhood and began to stroke gently.

Rumil moved away from his neck and smiled at him, rocking lightly against Thranduil’s erection in time with the strokes being delivered to himself. Pushing him down on the bed, Rumil crawled up so he was staring down at his new one time lover and smiled.

“Have you ever been taken?”

Thranduil looked up at him and smiled. “Yes, a few times. I rather enjoy it.”

“Hm. Good. Too bad I am not your first, but that is life.”

He lowered himself down to claim his mouth again.

Thranduil whimpered as the kiss was broken again. He watched as Rumil sat up and leaned over to the table next to his bed. He opened a drawer and rifled around for a moment before pulling out a small bottle of oil. A sweet smell of something Thranduil could not identify filled the air as he uncorked the bottle. Pushing himself back on the bed, Thranduil watched as Rumil coated himself with it.

Lying back down, he spread his legs and allowed Rumil to prepare him. He hissed as he felt a probing finger breach his entrance, and moaned at the tingle it sent up his spine.

“Aye! Rumil!” Thranduil cried out as his lover suddenly sheathed himself inside of him. He picked his head up slightly to look at him, noting the playful smile on his face.

“I am sorry. But I would prefer Orophin did not join us. You understand, no?”

“Of course.” He smiled and wrapped his legs around the young elf. He was not used to such quick play, but he still found it rather exciting to be had this way.

He closed his eyes and soaked in the sensation of Rumil’s thrusts, panting as he felt himself being stroked in time. Release was coming as fast as their tryst, but he did not mind.

His eyes flew open at the sound of a knock on the door. He looked to Rumil. Without stopping his thrusts, he yelled, “Orophin! Do not come in!”

Shutting his eyes again, Thranduil hissed out his release, spilling himself over Rumil’s hand. A moment later, he felt himself being filled with the hot seed of his lover as his name was called out.

Thranduil sat up in time to catch the robes Rumil tossed to him. He shook his head. “I should probably feel like a bit of a whore right now.”

“Nay. It was fun, although quick. We’ll have to do it slower some time.” Rumil smiled at him playfully. “Orophin?”

“Yes?”

“You can come in now.”

The door opened slowly and Orophin peeked inside. Rumil looked at him. “I cannot believe you stood at the door that whole time.”

“I… yes, neither can I. That was disturbing. No offense, Thranduil.”

“None taken.”
