After the War

Gandalf and the Lords of Gondor were all assembled along with King Éomer, Haldir, Elladan, Legolas, Pippin, and Gimli when they entered the room.

After the battle plans were laid out they readied their army for battle.
On the next morning the army crossed the Pellennor Fields and headed for the black gates of Mordor.

They would take the final battle right to Sauron's door to distract him from the hobbits. The final battle ensued and many lost their lives, but Boromir was so very proud of his countrymen, his King, and his friends. Legolas and Gimli had stayed close to Boromir and Aragorn throughout the battle and Haldir and his elven archers proved time and again the talent and determination of elves. The Dúnedain fought hard and unswervingly and he could understand how Aragorn had become their chieftain. King Éomer's men were valiant indeed and fought with such fierceness that Boromir was glad they were on the same side.

After many hours Gandalf cried out, "Hold, Men of the West! The hour of doom is upon us!" With that the ground shook and a black wave washed across the land as the minions of Sauron fell. Frodo had done it!

Anaranë turned from the seeing pool. She had completed what she had set out to do. The war was over; Boromir lived and had not lost hope. She was pleased with all that had happened. Her new future woven of her magic would insure peace for years to come. She left her bower to join her husband and the other gods overseeing the plight of the wounded and dying.

All was not over, now it was time to tend to the wounded. Aragorn with Boromir at his side tended hundreds of men, elves, and even a wounded Hobbit. Pippin was injured during the battle but he pulled through quite well, especially after a recovered Merry came to his bedside.

All of the members of the fellowship were heartbroken when Gandalf's great eagle returned with the two Hobbits from Mount Doom. The two Hobbits were near death but between Gandalf and Aragorn they managed to bring them back. Boromir spent many hours by Frodo's side. He wanted to apologize to the hobbit for succumbing to the call of the ring.

When the two Hobbit's finally came back from the edge of oblivion all of Minas Tirith celebrated their survival. After all they were the true heroes Boromir thought, not us...we bought them time, but they were the true heroes of all Middle Earth.

Aragorn stepped into the doorway and stopped. Boromir and Frodo were talking to one another in hushed tones. His lover and Frodo were both weeping as they pulled one another into an embrace. Aragorn did not ask what they said to one another, but he could tell the last fragments of self-loathing had finally fallen away from Boromir. Frodo had given the man absolution.

Once the hobbits were healed Aragorn's official coronation was held along with a celebration for the now healthy hobbits. A few days later Lord Elrond arrived with the Princess Arwen, the Kings betrothed. Aragorn and Arwen were wed on a beautiful spring day. Just as Arwen said she accepted Boromir into their bed after the first night.

Three weeks later Boromir was in his study trying to concentrate on a tax scroll. He hated this part of the Stewardship. Aragorn crept into the room silently and slid his arms around his lover.

Boromir turned and smiled. "Good morning, my liege."

"Good morning dear one." Aragorn answered planting a soft kiss on the blond mans neck.

"That looks quite dull." Aragorn said indicating the tax scroll he had nearly fallen asleep reading the day before.

"That it is." Boromir said laying the scroll on the desk and standing up.

"How is the Queen this morning?" Boromir asked pouring a glass of w for for himself and Aragorn.

"She is taking a walk with Éowyn at the moment." Aragorn said taking the glass of water.

"We missed you this morning." Aragorn said setting his glass on the desk.

"I had work to attend to, plus I did not want the Queen's maid Salmai to find me in bed with the two of you." Boromir explained.

Aragorn laughed. “Yes that might have been awkward to say the least.”

“Boromir, I wanted to speak with you. The Lady Éowyn turned down your brother’s offer of marriage. She told him her heart belonged to another, do you know anything of this?” Aragorn had suddenly slipped into the role of King.

Boromir stared at Aragorn a bit shocked. “She what? Oh no…I need to speak to Faramir.” Boromir said walking over to the desk and sitting down. Poor Faramir, he was so taken with the young woman from Rohan. His heart must be broken. Boromir thought sadly.

“Yes, you should speak to Faramir, but you should also speak to Éowyn. I think that it is you that owns her heart my love.” Aragorn said softly crossing the room to stand before Boromir.

“What? Me! How…how could that be?” Boromir asked shocked.

“The heart does strange things, Boromir you know that.” Aragorn consoled. “Besides it would be a far better political union should you marry Éowyn.” Aragorn suggested.

“What? After she just squashed my poor brother’s heart? I think not.” Boromir snapped.

“I didn’t say I liked the idea…I said it was politically a good match.” Aragorn defended. “Personally I worry that if you were to marry Éowyn that…that you might turn from mine and Arwen’s affections.”

“That would never happen.” Boromir said standing up and crossing the room swiftly. He couldn’t believe Aragorn would even think that.

“What would never happen dearest?” Arwen’s beautiful soft voice then made both men spin toward the door she just entered.

The two men set about explaining to the Queen their conversation and then once she had heard everything Arwen smiled.

“Indeed dearest Boromir, Éowyn is enamored with you. She told me today that she fell in love with you during your time in Rohan. She admitted at first she was somewhat smitten with you Estel, but she soon found that Boromir was the man that dominated all her thoughts and dreams. When Faramir asked her to marry him she almost said yes because he so resembles you Boromir but she felt that would be unfair to him. She cares far too much for Faramir to have him take a wife who pines for another.” Arwen explained.

“She should have said yes to Faramir then.” Boromir said sadly, “Since my heart belongs to another…it would be wrong for me to wed her for that very same reason.”

Arwen smiled slightly. “Dearest but you do love Éowyn…just in a different way than you love Estel.”

“Yes as a friend I love her, as a sister, as the bravest and most noble of all women I have ever met but I do not love her the way she deserves to be loved.” Boromir said in a pleading voice that made Aragorn’s heart ache.

“Besides she would never understand the relationship between the three of us.” Boromir said then.

“Actually I think she would.” Arwen replied. “If you would but go to her…court her Boromir…tell her about us if you feel you must. She will keep the secret even if she does not accept a union with you after knowing. This not only would be a good political union as Estel said but it would be good for you. She could provide you strong and beautiful children, something Estel ever do.” Arwen added smiling.

Boromir and Aragorn both laughed. “I should think not.” Boromir said shaking his head.

“Is this what the King and Queen wish?” Boromir asked then knowing if they said yes now he had no choice. It would not be his lovers telling him but a command he would have to obey.

Aragorn understood why Boromir had said what he did. He looked at Arwen and they both looked back at the blond man they both loved dearly. “Yes.” They said together.

Boromir hung his head a bit then nodded. “So be it.”

The next three months Boromir spent courting Éowyn. Faramir had been angry at first but understood after a few weeks. He could not force Éowyn to change her heart and Boromir could not turn from a command from the King and Queen.
