Chapter Fourteen

Disclaimer: Nope, we don’t own them. Wish we did. This never happened (well, to the best of our knowledge), it’s just a figment of our twisted little imaginations. And we do hope that you enjoy it. :-D

The next time they woke, it was to new beginnings. They soon boarded a plane to London with the others, but ended up missing the premiere, losing track of time as they ended up in an intense discussion about almost everything involving their feelings, intentions and future desires. When they realized what time it was, they were an hour late. Since they weren’t really obligated to be there, they decided there were better uses of their time.

Work-related separations were more difficult than either of them had expected, and Elijah ended up spending a lot of time ‘traveling’, keeping a low profile so it wasn’t too obvious that these trips lined up with Orlando’s projects.

Orlando remained resolutely technophobic, meaning that Elijah was the one keeping in contact with the other cast members. Dom’s tight-lipped stance regarding Billy became increasingly amusing, especially since Billy took great glee in sending Elijah emails addressed to “Paris and Helen” after the Troy premiere, which Elijah skipped because, well, he wasn’t sure he could handle seeing Orlando as some homewrecker.

Yeah, it was just a movie, but he was still a little uncomfortable where Orlando and girls were concerned, and the false tabloid stories circulated to keep their relationship secret. Kate Bosworth became Hollywood’s most notorious beard, and Elijah thought she got a little too into the make-out photo ops.

He retaliated by addressing his reply to “Brad and Jennifer.” Dom took offence and called him a catty bitch. Billy made him apologize.

A year passed before they knew it.

It was a damp, cold, December morning in England, and Orlando had been having a particularly nice dream involving him, Elijah, a tropical island and lots of nudity when he was awakened by the sound of a whimper, followed by the sounds of someone thrashing.

“Lij?” he mumbled, opening his eyes and gently shaking Elijah’s shoulder. Concern wrinkled his forehead. “Elijah, wake up.”

Elijah grabbed his arm desperately and clung to it, still asleep. His eyelids rippled as his eyes darted back and forth behind them.

“Don’t leave me,” he mumbled, repeating the words from a year ago. “Please don’t leave me. . .”

“I won’t, Elijah,” Orlando whispered, bringing his free hand up to softly caress Elijah’s cheek. “I made you a promise and I’m keeping it.”

Damn, had it really been a year since that whole nightmare? It felt like a lifetime. . .

He leaned down, softly kissing Elijah’s lips. “Wake up, love.”

Elijah started awake, his eyes snapping open as he tried to push Orlando away from his neck. His movements slowed as he realized where he was, and he went limp, panting, his forehead dampened by sweat.

“God damn it. It wast ast a dream,” he panted.

Orlando looked concerned as he brushed Elijah’s hair back off his forehead, then trailed his fingers down his cheek. “Yeah, it was. You all right?”

“I am now,” Elijah said with a bit of a nod. His hand instinctively went up to the scars on his neck. “God, I’m so glad you’re here.”

He hid his eyes against Orlando’s arm. Yes, he was being a suck, but he was going to give himself five suck minutes.

Orlando smiled. “I can’t think of any place I’d rather be.”

His smile faded a little as he placed his hand over Elijah’s on his neck. Even after a year, it was still scary to think about.

He gently pried Elijah’s hand away from his neck and laced their fingers together as he kissed below Elijah’s jaw line, his nose nuzzling behind his ear. “Have I told you how much I love you?” he whispered.

“Not since last night,” Elijah sighed, his eyes sliding closed. He cupped the back of Orlando’s head in his hand. “I love you too.”

Orlando smiled, burying his face against Elijah’s neck. “Go back to sleep, love,” he said, his own eyes drifting closed. “I’m not going to ever leave you.”

Elijah smiled softly, a wonderful warmth flooding over him, as it did every time Orlando said that.

“Promise?” he said quietly.

“Promise,” Orlando responded as he snuggled closer to Elijah.

He smiled, feeling again the same happiness he’d been experiencing the last year. He finally understood what Liv had meant when she said that love wasn’t something you could exactly explain.

But he knew he’d found it with Elijah.

Elijah’s smile widened, and his eyes opened again, looking at the window and the stark winter light filtering through it.

“That’s three,” he said.
