Again in Search of Mushrooms
Chapter 13
It was long after midmorning before Aragorn awoke and was instantly consumed with guilt before he rolled over and saw Kalina still dead to the world and lying naked beside him. The guilt then worsened momentarily, before the memor ple pleasure hit him. Panic departed and was replaced by a combination of lust and affection for the sleeping vixen. After last night he was fairly certain that whatever nastiness Elrond could do to him for upsetting Arwen (if she ever found out) was so worth it. He moved towards Kalina and slipped an arm around her waist. Reflexively, Kalina rammed an elbow into Aragon's gut, shoved him away and continued sleeping heavily, using Legolas's chest as a pillow.
Gasping stly tly from being winded, Aragorn looked around. Haldir was still passed out face down on the ground, drooling slightly out of the corner of his mouth. Legolas was still asleep and grinning. Aragorn was happier not knowing why he was smiling and figured kicking Haldir awake would be less likely to result in wrath. Or at least wrath he could contend with.
Aragorn got up, dressed and walked over to Haldir and prodded him.
"Brgh."
"Haldir?"
"No."
"Wake up. It's late in the morning." Aragorn prodded Haldir again.
"Wuh? Where am I?" asked Haldir.
"A bit east of the Misty Mountains," said Aragorn patiently.
"Why?"
"To rescue Galadriel. Remember?"
"Oh. How come I fell asleep here ? I don't remember how I got here."
"Exhaustion," lied Aragorn. "Anyhow, I'm off to pick some mushrooms and a some useful herbs I saw back there."
"I'll come too," yawned Haldir, feeling unusually helpful and upbeat. Tired and fuzzy headed, true, but there was a
fantastic feeling of enthusiasm bubbling within him. It was certainly a drastic change from the usual cynical dread he tended to experience on a day-to-day basis. "Let me just change and I'll give you a hand!!"
"Actually, can you find mushrooms? We brought bacon and mushrooms would go good and there were plenty around here. I need to go find some herbs."
"What a fantastic idea!!! Well, I'll go do that then!" Haldir had clearly forgotten his previous decision to get out of Legolas's clothes and began to head away from camp.
"By the way, you do know how to pick mushrooms, right?"
"Oh yes. Celeborn was keen on it and dragged me with him to help."
"Right. Well, see you back here in half an hour?"
"Oh yes! Bye bye!!!" Haldir skipped off, looking clearly deranged. Aragorn wasn't too sure what to do, but Kalina did say side effects were common. Either that or Haldir was insane and would have to be tied up for his own good. The prospect had a certain appeal to it. It took a good minute before Aragorn began to feel guilty about thinking dirty thoughts. Then he began to feel guilty about Kalina. This time the guilt stayed. Aragorn began to brood, mulling over his guilt and wondering what could be done to make this wretched angst go away.
