Chapter 12.
To Brennil, it felt as if everything happened in a blur from the moment she had said yes. It was almost overwhelming at times and she had started to have panic attacks.
On one hand she was grateful of all the help she had but when everyone had started to ask, at once, what she wanted or what she wished for it became too much. She had almost screamed as she fled the room.
“Brennil?” Her father’s voice sounded outside her door
“I just want to be alone’ She replied, not bothering to get out from under her covers.
“You cannot hide forever’ Erestor said as he opened her door and walked in.
“I can try” Brennil told him.
Erestor chuckled lightly as he came to sit on the end of her bed. He tilted his head slightly when she finally lifted hers and looked at him
“It was too much” she told him “question after question and I did not have any answers to give them yet” she sighed
“You do not need to explain anything” Erestor said “you are not the first to have reacted this way for the same reasons.”
Somehow that had not made Brennil feel any better. She just wanted everything to be perfect and so far all it was, was chaos. She could only wonder if it would continue to just get worse the closer it came to the wedding day.
She was trying not to get emotional but the tears of frustration started anyway, making her feel even more foolish than she already did.
“I know what you need” Erestor said, smiling at her then had left the room without speaking another word.
Brennil sighed softly as she closed her eyes, willing herself to think of anything else other than her upcoming wedding. She heard the door open again and assumed it was her father that had returned.
“ Come here” It was Glorfindel’s voice she heard, seconds before she felt his arms wrap around her. She immediately relaxed into them and turned to face him.
“Forget everything else tonight.” He whispered softly “ for now it is just us”
Brennil sighed softly as she rested her head against his chest. The soft sounds of his heart beating were enough to help her relax and after a short while she had drifted off to sleep.
~ ~
It was late when Brennil woke up. She turned her head slightly to watch Glorfindel as he slept, enjoying the peaceful look he had when he rested. It was moments like this, waking up in his arms that made everything worth it. She could handle the chaos as long as she knew she would have Glorfindel to relax with every night.
“You should still be sleeping” Glorfindel whispered softly
“Why?” she asked “ I am enjoying watching you sleep”
“Is there nothing better you can be doing?” Glorfindel asked her, raising an eyebrow when she giggled softly
“ I am sure there is” she said as he cuddled up against her “and it involves us both” she whispered into his ear. ‘Though if you are not fully awake..’ she giggled softly
“ I am awake” he grinned as he pulled her closer against him “ in more ways than one”
“ I can feel that” she purred softly.
“ You will feel even more than that soon enough” he replied before he kissed her deeply.
As many times before, Brennil did not hesitate to give herself to him completely. Enjoying each and every one of his touches. They took things slow at first until their needs demanded more from them, both giving in to the pleasure of each other at the same time.
~ ~
Over the next few days neither Glorfindel nor Brennil had seen much of each other during the day. When they did find a few spare minutes, someone would always show up and demand more of their time.
At night, Glorfindel forbid anyone to disturb them, other than either Erestor or Elrond. Though even they made their visits brief , giving Glorfindel and Brennil some peace for most of the night.
“ Two more days” Glorfindel smiled as he kissed the top of her head gently.
“ I know.” She smiled softly as her hand caressed his chest lightly as she lay in his bed with him “ tomorrow night will be the hardest though.”
“ If I could stay the night with you then I would” He told her “ but Tradition says..”
“ I know what it says” she told him. “That we must spend the night before our wedding apart” she sighed “ I really do not like this tradition”
Glorfindel tighten his arms around her as she sighed softly. It would not be easy for either of them, though it was only one night and that was nothing compared to the many nights they would spend together afterwards.
He heard the change in her breathing and knew she had drifted off to sleep. He was already anxious for their wedding day to arrive and would not be able to find much sleep, both this night and especially not the next.
As he listened to the sound of her light breathing, he thought back to all that had happened since he had met her in Lorien. The arguments that had, the misunderstandings. They had made it through all of the rough patches, including having her former lover show up in Imladris.
As his thoughts turned to Orophin, he wondered as to where the warden was. He had not been seen since the day that Brennil had tried to jump him in the healing rooms. It was not that he wasn’t glad that Orophin was nowhere in sight but at the same time it worried him. If that elf tried to ruin their wedding day, Glorfindel would have his head. Then he’d let Erestor deal with what was left of him.
~ ~
It was the constant knocking that had eventually woken them both. Glorfindel groaned as he wrapped his arms around Brennil and silently wished that whoever was at the door would go away.
Brennil could not help but giggle when they both heard the lock turn and the door opening shortly afterwards
“ Now I know you heard me knocking” Erestor through the bedroom door.
“ Why do you have a key to my rooms?” Glorfindel asked in reply
“ He does not” Elrond’s voice was heard. “ However, I do.”
Glorfindel rolled his eyes then turned his head to face Brennil, kissing her tenderly as he ignored Erestor’s questioning them on when they were getting up.
“ I do believe they wish for us to get up” Glorfindel grinned “ are you ready to start our day?”
Brennil smiled at him as she shook her head in reply
“ Nor am I” He chuckled “ go away” he called back to the others on the other side of the door.
“That is not going to happen” Elrond said, though they could both hear the amusement in his voice “There is a lot to be done today.”
“ I hate when he is sometimes right” Glorfindel said, kissing her softly
“ I am always right” Elrond replied, having heard the comment.
Brennil giggled softly as she wrapped her arms around Glorfindel’s neck. She sighed softly as he drew her into his arms and hugged her tightly
“ You should go” she whispered softly “ the faster we get through this day the better” she added
“ I will try and find a few moments to spend with you before dinner” Glorfindel said “ after that..”
“ After that, we’ll not see each other until tomorrow” she finished for him. “Now go before I decide to keep you in this bed with me.”
Glorfindel groaned and after a few more kisses, he finally pulled himself away from her. Their eyes stayed locked as he dressed. She smiled as he blew her a kiss before he disappeared through the door.
“ You both are an annoying bunch of elves” she heard him say to Elrond and her father. She could not help but laugh softly and had missed Erestor’s reply. Whatever it had been, it made Elrond laugh loudly.
~ ~
The day, for Brennil, could not pass fast enough. There were plenty of last minute preparations to be done, enough to keep her busy but not enough to keep her mind off of Glorfindel. She had not yet seen him since he’d left the room that morning and she wondered if time was passing any faster for him then it had been for her, though she doubted it.
Dinner was fast approaching as she began to doubt she would see him again before the day ended. The twins, loyal as they were, had at least been trying to keep her distracted. She was more than grateful for their attempts even though most had so far failed.
“ Miss me?’ Glorfindel’s voice whispered in her ear as she felt his arms slide around her slowly. She leaned back against him and closed her eyes
“ More with each passing moment.” She replied softly.
She sighed softly as she felt his tender kiss against the back of her neck. She turned slowly in his arms and slid hers up around his neck. It matter not, to her that they stood in the middle of the hall of fire or that there were plenty of others around them.
“ Just a few more hours” Glorfindel said “ and you shall be all mine”
Brennil smiled up at him before he kissed her tenderly, his arms holding her tightly as she pressed up against him
“ I am already all yours.” She whispered in reply.
They shared only a few more minutes before Glorfindel was dragged off once more. She tried to hide her disappointment when he had looked back at her and waved. She could only keep reminding herself that this day would soon be over then they could spend as much time together as they wished.
~ ~
Dinner proved to be just as challenging as the rest of the day had been, if not more. Brennil was seated at one table with her father, Arwen and Elladan. While Glorfindel sat at another table, across the room with Elrond, Legolas and Elrohir.
Brennil had mostly picked at the food on her plate, glancing over towards Glorfindel often. Each time she looked his way, she found him looking hers. Each time he smiled at her she felt the soft shiver move through her.
“ This is going to be a long night” she whispered to herself but the amused look in her father’s eyes told her he had heard her. She giggled softly as she slowly sipped her drink and glanced once more towards Glorfindel, only this time his attention was towards Elrond.
~ ~
‘Here, Elrond orders you take this.’ Erestor handed her a warm cup of tea. She could smell the herbs even before she had taken the first sip. “ It will help you relax enough to find some rest tonight.”
Brennil felt the effects almost as soon as she sipped it. She could feel herself relaxing and did not protest when her father helped her over to her bed. It felt strange to even be in her own bed, having spent most nights in Glorfindel’s. Her room did not even feel as if it were her own anymore.
“ Sleep.” Erestor whispered softly.
Though she tried to stay awake, the tea’s herbs had soon taken their full effect and she could feel herself slipping into a peaceful sleep. Her mind and thoughts were, as always, on Glorfindel as sleep finally claimed her.
~ ~
“Good morning.” Elladan smiled when he saw that Brennil was awake. “ I was starting to wonder if you would sleep the entire day.” He teased lightly
“What time is it?” She asked, sitting up in bed quickly
“ It is just past dawn” Elladan chuckled “ worry not, we would not have let you miss your own wedding.”
Brennil let out a deep breath and let herself fall back against her bed. She noticed the tray on the dresser. As the scent of food reached her she knew she could not stomach t take a single bite.
“ How is it that you are here and not my father?” She asked softly
“ Erestor has gone with my father to see to Glorfindel.” Elladan replied “ It was seem he is a force not to be reckoned with this morning.”
Brennil sat up in bed once more, panic now begging to set in.
“ Why, has something happened?”She questioned, her emotions getting the best of her “ he has not changed his mind has he?”
Elladan shook his head as he sat on the edge of her bed and took her hand in his
“ You have nothing to worry about.” He assured her. “ Glorfindel’s nerves are a mess this morning, as to be expected. You father has gone to assure him that you have not changed your mind.”
There was a knock at the door before Brennil could reply. She remained silent as Elladan went to answer and then watched as he stepped aside to allow Arwen to enter.
“ Erestor wishes for you to join him in Glorfindel’s room” Arwen told her bother.
Brennil bit her lower lip gently then quickly wrote a note, folding it and handing it to Elladan before he could leave.
“ Only Glorfindel may read this.” She told him.
Elladan nodded as he took the message. He kissed her cheek briefly then hurried out of her room.
“ I do not want anything to go wrong today.” Brennil sighed softly
“And nothing shall.” Arwen said, guiding her to the sofa and having her relax a few more minutes before she needed to get ready.
Brennil took a few deep breaths to calm her nerves. All that was left to do now was get dressed and wait. For her, waiting was the hardest part. She still did not feel calm enough eat but managed a few sips of tea after Arwen had insisted.
“ I am most curious,” Arwen said as she had helped Brennil into her gown. “ What was it you wrote to Glorfindel?”
Brennil could not help but smile as she pictured Glorfindel reading the note. She could only hope it would help assure him that nothing had changed, that she wanted this as much as he did.
“ I wrote the same words he would whisper to me when he thought I was asleep” she smiled “Today, tomorrow and every day of forever, I am yours “
Arwen could not keep from smiling as Brennil told her what she had wrote. It would seem there was a softer side to Glorfindel that only Brennil has ever witnessed.
Both ellith looked over when the door opened and Erestor made his way into the room. He stopped when he saw that Brennil had her gown on and could only stare silently for a few brief moments.
“ You look so much like your mother” he said quietly.
Brennil could only watch as he took out a silver circlet. She could not stop the tears from falling as he had placed it gently on her head.
“ This was my mother’s” he told her, wiping her tears away. “ And now it is yours” he added
“ I do not know what to say.” Brennil replied softly
“ You need not say anything” Erestor replied, kissing her cheek
She took a deep calming breath as she hugged him, closing her eyes as she felt him return the gesture.
“ It is almost time.” He said finally. “ Finish up here and I shall met you at the front lines”
“ The front lines Erestor, really?’ Arwen giggled “ she is getting married, not marching to war.”
~ ~
When the time came, Brennil was even more nervous. She had thought more than once that she would be sick as they made their way to where she was to meet her father.
The instant she say Glorfindel, however every other thought of fear and nervousness was pushed from her mind. She could not remember seeing him more handsome then he was now. The instant his eyes locked with her, Brennil never even noticed anyone else around them. She was where she was meant to be.
She barely heard Elrond’s speech once he began. Even the reciting of their vows had been a blur at first. Her tears began the instant she felt Glorfindel slowly slide the ring onto her finger. She could not tear her eyes from his as she slid his into place as well.
Neither one of them had heard the crowd cheering when Glorfindel kissed her. Or the laughter when Erestor made the comment of them saving it for later that night.
The feast afterwards had been as perfect as the wedding itself. The hall of fire had been set up with decorations and a great feast of food had been laid out for all who attended. Lindir was perfect in his choice of music and though Brennil did enjoy one dance with each Elrond and her father, the rest of the evening was spent in Glorfindel’s arms on the dance floor.
“I have waited long enough” Glorfindel whispered in her ear softly “ It is time we take our leave.” He added softly, sending yet another shiver to move through her.
“ I agree” she finally managed to whisper in reply, kissing him softly.
She smiled as he took her hand and lead her from the dance floor. They had quickly made their rounds to say good night to their guests. Brennil blushed softly as the entire room applauded them as they made their exit.
“ I do hope you are not too tired’ Glorfindel grinned, lifting her into his arms and carrying her into their room. “ I do have plans I wish to share with you.”
Brennil grinned as she kissed and nipped at his neck. “ I must insist that you show me these plans of yours.” She purred into his ear softly
“ I will” he said, kicking the door closed behind them.” All night if I must.”
