Chap: 12
Chap: 12
He sat on a rock in the pasture they were shooting in, gentle breeze stirring the grasses, clear blue sky. For the amount of people around it was a fairly calm atmosphere. Simply- a beautiful day. Actors and extras chattering happily or lying content in the grass, enjoying the break, he was anything but. He looked up again to where Orlando perched on another rock at least a couple hundred feet away. Legs spread, elbows on knees. One of his arrows being absently twirled through long fingers while he listened to one of the extras.
He sighed his disgust and jabbed at the ground again and again. Skewering the inner voice that chanted 'Told ya so!' with his sword.
He knew it was his fault Orlando was avoiding him today. It had been heading this way since they'd left helms deep months ago. And no matter how many times Orli explained himself and he'd swore to the younger man he understood-he didn't. He tried every trick in the book to get him to stay, but of course, none had worked. His young lover was adamant on the subject and it had finally ended where Viggo knew it would. In an argument.
~*~*~*~*~*
It was three in the morning and he stood on the last step, watching Orli search the living room for his keys.
"Will you ever stay?"
Shrug, followed by silence.
"Don't you think I at least deserve an answer?"
"Can't answer something I don't know." He said it gently, like trying to placate a small child. It had pissed Viggo off. He brought up helms deep *again* to purposefully invoke a rise in Orli's serene attitude.
"Explain to me again why it was different at the trailer, and why on earth a few hours matter! You'll be back here at the break of day."
He turned then and stilled at Viggo's caustic tone. Eyes flashed a k sik sight of anger before he sighed and started to rub the bridge of his nose in a tired gesture.
"I don't wanna do this Vig."
"Humor me." He should have wrapped his arms around Orlando, kissed him thoroughly and sent him home. But for some still unknown reason at that time, he couldn't seem to stop himself.
He let another longer, more suffering sigh loose, then looked Viggo in the eye. "We were living together..sharing space..it was *my home* at the time. Where else would I sleep!"
That slow, berating way he ground out the sentence was the last straw. "How about your own bed." Sarcasm didn't feel good passing his lips, he was pushing too hard and he knew it when Orlando's tone became as bitter as his.
"You mean the one you were so eager to *burn* to ensure that didn't happen?"
"The very same!" He shot back.
Orli glared at him for long moments before he answered in a somewhat calmer tone.
"I've explained this so many times to you I'm sick of hearing myself voice it, but again *I don't stay the night with a lover*. It's personal, maybe a little cracked in your eyes, but I won't change my mind. Sleeping over is too much like living together and that's something I will reserve for a *committed* relationship." His fingers closed round his keys when a sensual rush hit him, remembering how Vig had attacked him, throwing him to this couch as if famished for his body. Straightening the cushion, his eyes saddened as they looked back up.
"We're dating..fucking, however you wanna put it. I prefer, exploring each other...us. But I'm not some boy toy or stupid little trollop Vig. I'm just me, and I've more respect for myself than to just move in with a lover. It did feel different somehow in the trailer, I guess because it was a temporary home but, your right. I should have never shared your bed. After you fucked me senseless I should have left..just as I'm doing now." He paused by the door, but didn't look back at Viggo. "If you want me to stop coming over say so, but if you decide that's not what you want...it has to be with a promise. No more of this senseless argument."
He heard his parting words and although they stung a bit, the phrase (Something reserved for a committed relationship) was the one that had hit him like a blow to the gut. It was just a more polite way of reminding him he was nothing more than a fuck!
~*~*~*~*~*
That innocent, yet erotic laugh filled the air drawing him from reverie. A smile lit his lovers face and he just stabbed harder at the ground with quick tiny jabs.
"Anyone in particular your maiming down there."
"Hey Dave, he shook his head, just personal demons of a sort."
David took a seat beside him, fwingwing Viggo's line of sight.
"So..he asked trying to shake off the memory, how you been lately? Haven't seen much of you since.."
"Christine." Dave supplied.
"Righ., Since the two of you became a serious item..and how is that going since were on the subject." He hoped no trace of jealousy was heard in his voice.
"I've been great. We've been great together. I'm really lucky I met her, you know. She's...wonderful!" The silly grin told it all and Viggo couldn't help smiling besides his foul mood.
"That's good to hear Dave, I'm really happy for you. And her dog, how's he faring?"
He punched Viggo playfully on the arm, "You would remember that. I'll have you know I throw out everything in the fridge once a week..bad or not!" He waited for his friends chuckle to die before asking what he really wanted to know.
"And you Viggo..whats this rumor going round that your chasing some pretty young thing that works here."
His eyes shot first to Orlando, then turned to Dave who only smiled, pretending not to notice.
"So there's a rumor huh?" God Orli was going to freak if he heard this.
"Mhmm..is it true?
Silence
"Come on, you can tell me. You know I won't say anything."
More silence. He caught the next stolen glance at Orlando.
"At least tell me how young and how pretty. And...if it's *really* young..is it to the point of illegal.. and do you think that's wise? On the scale. One to ten..what rating?"
Viggo laughed then, rising and sheathing his sword in one well practiced motion. He gave Dave a wiry smirk before giving an answer.
"If you thought you'd found the other half of your soul..to what lengths would you go to get it..and keep it? Would age matter? Oh, and your scale..a twenty!" He winked and walked away, leaving Dave temporarily stunned.
"Well, fuck me, he muttered under his breath, he not chasing, he went and fell for the guy." He looked over and watched Orlando, watching Viggo walk away. By the sad look on his face, things weren't going as well for them.
"Hey!" Ian called out at the loud bang on the side of his trailer. He poked his head out the door, Oh it's you. You okay? I heard this enormous bang."
"Yeah, sorry about that." Karl said hiding his hand. "Wasn't looking, guess I tripped."
"Your sure you didn't hurt yourself?"
Ian was eyeing him suspiciously and he just wanted to get the hell out of there.
"Fine Ian, thanks!" He waved with his good hand and headed for his own trailer. He couldn't believe he'd hit it hard enough to make his knuckles bleed. But overhearing Dave and Viggo's conversation had boiled his blood instantly. 'Other half of your soul my ass. What in the hell are you thinkin Vig. Fuck the little prima-donna if you want. But fall in love? No way, couldn't be happening. He wouldn't stand for it!'
He watched them more closely than he ever had before, and by the end of the day he'd come to the conclusion that it was someone else Viggo was hooked on--or they were fighting--they acted *anything* but in love. But knowing how Viggo had lusted after the young thing, he figured it was the latter. Maybe, he could help things along?
He caught up with Viggo who trailed Orlando by about twenty paces to their makeup trailer. "Vig!" He smiled at the scruffy ranger that turned to him. "You look like hell man."
"Thanks Karl, I needed that."
He took up pace beside him, laughing, "You need a night out I think, what'd ya say?"
Viggo heard the trailer door slam. Orlando's continued anger only made him more tired.
"I think I should just go home and catch up on some sleep, but.."
"Aw come on man. A couple of beers over dinner then..you have to eat. Right? And besides, we hardly hang out any more." He let a little pout enter voice, knowing to play on Viggo's sympathy would ensure success.
"Yeah, dinner sounds fine. Let me just.."
"Yeah, I have to get out of this wig too, damn thing itches."
He waited til Viggo closed the door then went over to make sure Orlando knew *who* would be keeping Viggo company tonight.
"Hey Vig, he met the mans eyes in the mi, we, we didn't decide. You wanna meet up or you want me to stop by your place after I've showered Eomer away. Cause if you don't feel up to drivin...."
"Give me an hour before you show, okay?"
"You got it!" He gave Orlando's glare a huge grin before shutting the door.
He tried the entire remaining time, silently pleading with Orli to stay and wait for him whenever their gazes met in the mirror. His irritated mood had shifted to full out ticked off for some reason, so Viggo wasn't surprised to find him gone. Was even less surprised to see his jeep missing from his driveway.
'I guess he'll come around when he gets through being mad-I hope.'
"One fucking fight Lij, no, it wasn't even that. More like a bloody argument! And he runs right to Karl. *Karl* of all the..and you shoulda seen him gloating, rubbing it in my face..the fucking nerve of that asshole!" He finally stopped ranting and pacing long enough for Lij to get a word in.
"Which one?"
"What?"
"The asshole..which one?"
"Both!" He flopped in a tired heap on the chair.
"You don't mean that."
One brow arched in defiance. "I do right now!"
He stood in front of his friend and stretched out a hand to help him up.
"Come on, let's grab a bite to eat and you can tell me all your woe's."
"I'm not hungry and stop poking fun at me, this is serious."
Well, you can watch me eat then, cause I'm starving. And it was a sympathetic poke." He grinned at Orli's scowl poking him in the back and pushing him out the door.
~*~*~*~*~*
"And that's it. I left. No big deal right."
It wasn't a question, more a voicing of an opinion. But he still looked at Lij, hoping he would agree.
"Sounds like he just wants to spend time with you..and your being a princess."
"What!" He shouted, then glanced around the cafe, cheeks turning pink. "What?" He tried a little lower this time. "A sodding princess! Where do you come up with this shit?"
"I'm brilliant. Thought you knew that already."
He looked at the wagging brow and lopsided grin, wanting to smack him and hug him at the same time.
"Maybe in hobbit land, but amongst the elves your a twit."
They both laughed at the same time, causing more stares at their lightly boisterous behavior.
"I think we're wearin out our welcome." Orli glanced around again.
"Gee..your observant." Elijah slurped down the rest of his drink noisily, slammed the cup down and flashed another mischievous grin as they made their way out. "See, hang around me long enough and you become brilliant too."
"Tosser."
"Princess."
Orlando's eyes narrowed, measuring the distance between him, Lij and the car. "*Princess*?" He drug the word out and started moving slowly forward.
Elijah knew he might not be brilliant, but a fool he was not. That look meant only one thing. Being tickled in front of whoever happened by until he cried uncle and gave a sappy apology. With a yelp he took off.
"Wait til I catch you, you little wanker!"
He reached for the door handle not believing he beat Orli, then realized the other wasn't even chasing him. He was at a standstill a few cars away, looking like someone had run over his favorite pet.
"Orli what is..." He stopped cold when he saw what Orlando saw.
Karl's hand running soothingly over Viggo's shoulder as they walked down the street. His head leaned in close, looking like they were sharing something that no one else should hear.
"God Orli...I'm so sorr.."
"Take me home Lij."
