Interlude #1
Interlude
Strider walked quietly through the dark forest, searching ahead for movement. For three days and three nights, he had been leading the hobbits closer and closer to Rivendell. He had rushed the hobbits through the wild with little rest. For the most part, the three hobbits had complained little. Worry for their friends occupied their minds and their need to know that Frodo and Nianna were well gave them the strength to continue on.
Seeing the weariness in their faces, Strider decided that they would rest this night. As the hobbits prepared the camp, he decided to hunt for they had been rationing their supplies and fresh meat would be greatly welcomed.
He crouched down next to a large oak and scanned the dark forest in front of him. He never noticed the figure drawing behind him. His first realization that there was anyone behind him was when he felt the edge of a sword at his throat. Strider stiffened and raised his head to keep the sword from drawing blood.
“What’s this? A ranger caught off guard?” said the melodic voice behind him.
Aragorn relaxed slightly as he recognized the voice. One thought crossed his mind as the sword moved away from his vulnerable throat. This was the second time in less than a month that an elf…two she-elves…got passed his ranger skills. He hoped that the two most important females in his life would keep these little moments of embarrassment to themselves.
