The Balrog slayer

UIA 13. - The Balrog-slayer.

I was more than happy that Elladan kept away from me for the remainder of the journey. I had expected him to threaten me as he did the first night, but apparently he said all that he wanted to.

Elrohir and Haldir seemed to keep a distance from one another. This morning, Haldir and I were riding in the back, and the twins in front. Today we would reach Rivendell. My heart beat like mad in my chest. I watched Elrohir and Elladan whispering, and I wondered what they were discussing.

"Legolas?" Haldir's voice drew my attention.

"Yes my friend?" I answered, and turned my head towards the silver haired elf.

"Don't be afraid," he whispered.

"Afraid?" I repeated.

"Do not judge all Imladris elves on the likes of Elladan," he said with a serious expression.

He was about to say something more when the twins suddenly came to a halt in front of us.

"Glorfindel!" Elladan yelled, sounding chipper.

Not until now had I noticed a golden haired elf riding toward us. Both rider and horse were larger than any I had seen. "Greetings my Princes," he yelled back, and waved merrily.

I must have looked dumbstruck, for Haldir laid a hand on my shoulder and squeezed it reassuringly. I could not take my eyes from the image of Glorfindel. He was the most regal being I had ever seen. An ancient air surrounded him. When he reached us he rode down to Haldir and I.

"Welcome to Imladris Haldir of Lorien," he said with a smile.

"Thank you Lord Glorfindel" Haldir hung his head as though to acknowledge the other's rank.

"And you," Glorfindel addressed me, "Our mystery guest." He tilted his head and looked me up and down. "Pray tell young one, what might your name be?"

"My name is Legolas, my lord Glorfindel" I hung my head in tame ame manner as Haldir.

"Oh, the prince of Mirkwood," he muttered as he raised my head with a leather-clad hand.

"N-not anymore my lord," I whispered. I closed my eyes afraid to meet his gaze.

"Then Thranduil is a fool," Glorfindel said more to himself than to me. "But who doubted that?"

I blushed and forced my eyes open to look upon the golden being. His hand alone frightened me. It seemed large enough to snap my neck if he wanted to, and with the breastplate and helmet on, the elf himself looked absolutely... deadly.

He let go of me. "Let us away then," he bef before turning his horse and riding up to the side of Elladan. He leaned in whispering something to him. This whispering drove me insane, and I strained my ears to hear what was said, but I couldn't. I gave up with a sigh, and accepted that it was not for me to hear

"The Balrog slayer," Haldir mused.

"Yes," I whispered, and turned my head to Haldir, looking dreamily at him. "You should paint him," I snickered.

"Stop!" Haldir said and tried to look offended, but he failed miserably and had to laugh. "Glorfindel the cowbell."

Glorfindel turned in his saddle and looked at us. "Did you say something Haldir of Lorien?" he asked with a raised a brow.

Haldir paled "No, no… My lord Glorfindel."

I had to hide my grin behind my hand and focus on the road not to burst out laughing.

When we rode into the courtyard of Rivendell I was amazed. I did not think I had ever seen its like before. "Oh Haldir, its beautiful," I whispered.

"Yes indeed," Haldir whispered back with a smile.

As we proceeded I turned my head this way and that, trying too see all of the beauty of Rivendell. There in the midst of it all, I saw a face that I had forgotten, Erestor the chief advisor of Rivendell

Next to him stood a sinister looking elf. I instantly understood that this had to be Lord Elrond himself, and I had to swallow a lump. He seemed just as dangerous as the rest of the household here. My horse stopped and a servant helped me down to the ground. I felt Haldir's arm sneak around mine to support me as we walked over to the two elves standing on the patio.

"My Lord." Glorfindel bowed before Elrond. He straightened and nodded towards Erestor. "Chief advisor Erestor," he spoke in a chilly voice.

"Glorfindel," Elrond answered, "Welcome home." He took a step forwards. "Elladan, Elrohir welcome home my sons, I trust your journey was pleasant."

"It was, thank you father," Elladan said and they both bowed before Elrond as well.

I squeezed Haldir's hand so hard my knuckles went white. I dreaded the moment Elrond would come my way, which he all too quickly did.

"Haldir of Lorien, welcome to Rivendell," he gestured towards Haldir. "Glorfindel will show you to the barracks."

"Thank you Lord Elrond," Haldir said as he again bowed.

"And Legolas, I will talk with you later when I have greeted my family." He paused as he looked at me. "Erestor, the chief advisor of Rivendell, will show you to the guest room assigned to you."

"Thank you Lord Elrond," I whispered and bowed my head, seeing the feet of Elrond turn as he walked away and left me in the courtyard with Haldir, Glorfindel, and Erestor.

"Come with me Haldir," Glorfindel said as he too turned to go. Haldir squeezed my hand and smiled reassuringly.

"Take care Legolas," he whispered.

I nodded and reluctantly let go of Haldir's hand. "You too Haldir."

I watched Haldir hurry after Glorfindel, and turned to look at Erestor. The ravenhaired elf hadn't moved from where he stood. I took a deep breath and walked over to the black clad elf. "Chief advisor Erestor," I smiled weakly at him as I spoke.

"Legolas," he answered with a perfectly raised brow. "I was most amazed when I heard you were to arrive here. I thought Thranduil had finally lost his mind."

"Thranduil has nothing to do with my arrival here. He does not know about my whereabouts." I said, looking away from the dark advisor. He was the most flawless elf in all of Middle Earth. Everything about Erestor was perfect. So perfect it was scary. He could just as well have been a statue carved in marble, a beauty originated in a creators mind.

"It has been long," he said. He then gestured for me to follow him to the guesthouse.

I hurried to fall into step with him. "Yes chief advisor Erestor."

"Honestly, when I was told you were in such circumstances, I had a hard time believing it. But who am I to call my lord a liar?" he opened the door to the guesthouse.

"I can imagine chief advisor Erestor," I kept my gaze on his back. The long black hair reached his waist and gently moved with him. I would never in my life forget what that black hair felt like, or what his leather gloves felt like on my heated flesh. I was quickly shaken from my musings when Erestor turned and stopped.

"This will be your room for as long as you shall stay here." He said.
