A/N: *Emphasis*, (Thoughts)
This story has been floating around in my mind and demanded to be written. It features a darker Elladan than we are used to and a young vulnerable Legolas. For the purpose of this story, I have decided (with some advice from the great and wonderful Min.) that the age of majority for an elf is 500 years. Legolas will reach his majority during the year of their betrothal. NO underage sex!!! NO non-con and NO rape!!!
Feedback: Would be wonderful and makes me type faster!
Summary: Elrond decides to have Legolas help Elladan while he is recovering. Elladan and Legolas try starting over.

Chapter Eleven

Elladan watched the door to the healing halls even after Legolas disappeared. That last look the prince had given him made Elladan regret every hateful word he had spoken to him since he had arrived.

“He saved your leg and perhaps your life, my son,” Elrond said as he sat down on the bed pulling Elladan from his thoughts. “You might want to rethink your opinion of him. Legolas did not have to come here to check on you. He could have easily waited to hear from someone else about your condition.”

“Aye, I well know it,” Elladan replied, his regret limning his voice. “All he has ever done was to try and gain my friendship, and I have pushed him away. I can hardly ignore what Legolas did this day. He fought bravely and put himself in harms way to protect me. I have misjudged his character and behaved in ways that have earned his contempt.”

“Is it so hard to let go and befriend him?” his father asked sincerely.

“It was, but now I am not so sure I can use the same arguments. He has proved them all wrong and I cannot bring myself to create new ones,” Elladan answered honestly. “It seems everyone in the valley has welcomed him and I refused to see why. I must make things right between us, but I am not sure he will even grant me the opportunity to do so. And who could blame him?”

“I think Legolas will listen if you ask to speak with him. Whether he accepts your apology or reasons is another story. The only thing you can do is try, Elladan,” Elrond said as he motioned an apprentice healer over to the bed. “Gather some help so that my son can be transported to his room. He will rest better in his own bed.”

Elladan waited until the apprentice left before speaking to his father again. “I will need help. There is no way I can get around on my leg. Perhaps Elrohir can move into what will be Legolas’ room.”

“I was thinking that Legolas could move into his room and help you,” Elrond replied with a raised eyebrow. “What better way to spend time with one another? You can start to make up for the way you have treated him.”

The elf warrior gave his father a surprised look and smiled. “I think you are right, but what if he refuses?”

“Legolas will not refuse especially if I ask him,” the elf lord answered and winked at his eldest.

“I only hope you are right,” Elladan replied with a small smile.

“You want me to do what!?” Legolas asked in shock. “After the way he has treated me you want me to take care of him while he is recovering?”

“There is really no one else available,” Elrond explained as he shuffled the papers on his desk in an attempt to keep from looking at the prince in the eye. “Elrohir will have to take over Elladan’s duties, Glorfindel and Erestor cannot give up their time, and I have to get ready for an important meeting with the leaders of a human village not far from here. You are the only one left and the logical choice.”

“Logical choice?” Legolas repeated as a question.

“Aye, you are to be bound with him and this will give you the opportunity to get to know one another better,” the elf lord explained as he moved to pull some books from a shelf. “I have taken the liberty of having some books from the library delivered to Elladan’s rooms. They are his favorites, but I thought you might like to read them too.”

“I have to move in there? Won’t that be awkward to explain to everyone?” the prince asked, trying to find a way out of moving into his betrothed’s room. “Lord Elrond, I don’t think this is going to work. It is highly unusual for one to move into their betrothed’s room before the ceremony. My father would frown on such an improper move.”

“Your father would suggest the same move if the situation was reversed,” Elrond replied, trying to sound convincing. The elf lord knew Thranduil would never do such a thing, but Legolas did not need to know that. “I really need you to do this, Legolas. There is no one else.”

The prince sighed and walked over to the balcony doors. “Elladan will allow this?”

“Elladan agreed to the plan as soon as it was mentioned,” Elrond replied with a smile, pleased that he did not have to lie about that. “He has had your room refreshed and prepared for you. My son needs your help, Legolas.”

“The first time he insults me I will leave him alone, injured or not,” Legolas promised with a frown. “I do not like this and I still think it is improper, but I will help Elladan.”

“Thank you,” Elrond said patting the prince on the back. “I will have your things moved and you can settle in before the day is out.”

Legolas nodded, but left Elrond’s office feeling like he had been manipulated in some way. Sweet Eru what would he do about his dreams with Elladan so close?

Elladan looked up from the book he was reading when he heard a soft knock and the door open. He smiled when he saw Legolas peek slowly and tentatively around the door.

“Legolas,” the elf warrior said as he motioned the prince in the room. “I would get up and greet you properly, but I am not allowed up unless I am helped, and even then only to use the facilities.”

“It does not matter,” Legolas answered somewhat nervously as he looked around the room. “Why are you not in your bed?”

“Father thought it would be better if I was in the sitting room during the day,” Elladan explained. The elf warrior was doing his best to sound friendly and hoped that Legolas would understand he was trying. “In the evenings we will have to move me to my bed. I think that you and I can accomplish that, don’t you?”

“Aye, I am stronger than I look,” the prince replied as he took a seat in a chair opposite the sofa Elladan was lounging on. “How is your leg?”

“It hurts, but the draughts father prepares take the pain away,” Elladan answered as he looked at the injured limb. “They cause me to sleep, so hopefully the one I drink at night will help me sleep through.”

“Is my room close in case you have need of me during the night?” Legolas asked and then blushed when he realized how his question sounded.

Elladan noticed the blush and smiled softly. “You will be able to hear me call for you. Your room is right next to mine.”

Legolas followed Elladan’s gaze and walked over to the room that would be his for the time being. The room was furnished well and luxuriously, and the prince noticed that he and Elladan shared the bathing chamber.

“Do you like it?” Elladan asked interrupting Legolas’ thoughts.

“Excuse me?” the prince asked, turning to face the elf warrior once again.

“Do you like your room?” Elladan repeated with a small amount of amusement.

“Aye, it is very nice. Nicer than my room in Taur-nu-Fuin,” Legolas admitted, surprising himself. He had told no one else in Imladris that, but he told Elladan and didn’t know why.

“Legolas,” Elladan began, but paused before continuing. “Thank you for what you did today. I might not be alive if it wasn’t for you and believe me when I say I am sorry for treating you as I have since you arrived.”

Surprised by the outward sincerity of the request for forgiveness, Legolas wasn’t sure what to say. The prince had always been gracious and accepting of others so it was hard for him to understand Elladan’s apparent hatred of him. Elrond’s explanation had helped, but Legolas felt the elf warrior’s resentment and hatred went further than even the elf lord knew.

“Why don’t we start over?” Elladan asked when it seemed Legolas was not going to reply to his apology. The elf warrior held out his hand and said, “I am Elladan, eldest son of Elrond, ruler of Imladris.”

Legolas stood and accepted the elf warrior’s hand. “I am Legolas, youngest son of Thranduil, king of Taur-nu-Fuin. Well met, Elladan.”

“Well met, Legolas.” Elladan replied with a hint of a smile. “Make yourself at home, as this will be your room for now, and after we are bound.”

“Aye, I will do my best,” Legolas answered with a small grin. “Forgive me for being a little out of sorts. I was not expecting to be in such close quarters with you at this time, but I will do what I can to help you through your confinement.”

“I understand that you feel a little uncomfortable, but I don’t bite and I can hardly chase you around the room,” The elf warrior replied, allowing a smile.

“Perhaps I can use that to my advantage,” Legolas said, teasing the elf warrior. “It will be a couple of months before you could exact revenge.”

Elladan couldn’t help but chuckle at the teasing smile on Legolas’ face. “Haven’t you heard, Ernilen?” the elf warrior asked, returning the tease. “Revenge is a dish best served cold.”
