A/N: Many apologies. I know it has been forever since I’ve updated. I am aware of that fact. Thank you for all the review(s). And I hope you enjoy.
Ch 12- Lost, Lonely, and Lamenting.
“You made this happen. You with your bright ideas. Don’t be one of thoomenomen. Dignity is the key. Keep it and you’ll be fine.” She muttered as she walked blindly.
Two weeks after that day by the lake Temperance wandered down the halls. She mulled over her situation. Legolas was true to his word. He wouldn’t come anywhere near her. He’d smile as he passed but never spoke a word. Temperance was heartbroken though she refused to admit it. She couldn’t help but feel lost. Legolas had been at her side nearly every hour of everyday up until this point in time. Now he was nothing more than a stranger passing by, cold and remote. He didn’t show any ill effects of their separation. In fact he seemed to be thriving. Female admirers once again surrounded him and the smile never left his face. Temperance hated herself.
“Dignity is crap.” She said, shaking her head. Two weeks of nothing. That’s what she’d been doing. Nothing, except acting like everything was fine. Pretending that she wasn’t hurt by what Legolas was doing. He was forcing her to sacrifice. To sacrifice his heart or her hope, an easy enough choice for some people but I was all happening to fast. Temperance was ripped from her family and all that she knew. Three weeks after being here Legolas was pledging his love and passion.
“THREE WEEKS!” Temperance cried, frightening an elf passing by. He jumped back and stared at her as if she were insane.
“I’m sorry…I was…...oh! Never mind.” She mumbled and continued on her way. She felt abandoned and alone. She was confused and tormented by the decision that had been thrust upon her as if it were nothing.
“How could he do this to me?” Temperance asked to the air.
“Perhaps he doesn’t know how hard it is for you.” Galadriel said, stepping from the shadows. Groaning inwardly Temperance beamed at Galadriel. Laughing softly Galadriel petted Temperance’s cheek.
“You don’t have to pretend with me. I know what you are thinking.” She said, tapping her temple. Temperance refused to give up her facade.
“Pretend? What would I be pretending about?” Temp asked, with practiced confusion. Galadriel smiled and pulled Temperance into her embrace.
“I can see the pain in you eyes, child. You have no idea what to do with this dilemma. You cannot believe that love comes quickly, bt dot does. ” She said, pulling away to look Temp in the eye.
“I need your.…….” Temperance started. Galadriel cut her off.
“You must make this decision on your own. I can offer advice. Look beyond the demand and look closely at the offer. An eternity is a long time to be alone.” With this said Galadriel left Temperance to ponder over that statement.
“The offer? Eternity?” She muttered and headed for the gardens. What was the offer? And why the hell was everyone talking about eternity? Shaking her head Temperance weaved through the now familiar maze of stone and vegetation.
“The offer. There is no offer! Only demands made by a man, who didn’t give one thought to my feelings.” She said as she wandered through the gardens. Walking with her head down Temperance twirled a flower between her fingertips. Her attention was diverted from the crimson petals, by a pair of dark boots. Stopping slowly Temperance raised her gaze. Her breath caught in hhroahroat as she looked up into those azure eyes. She watched as a flicker of delight flashed in those depths, quickly disappear and fade into blankness. Taking a deep breath, Temperance lifted her head and drew back her shoulders, looking him full in the face. Neither said a word, they let the nearness of each other speak for itself. They each wanted something from the other. Yet neither was willing to give in.
“Come back to me.” She thought to herself.
“Please. I can’t handle the loneliness. Please…..just come back.” Her mind screamed at himmpermperance felt the burning in the backs of her eyes and quickly dropped her stare to look upon his hands, hands that flexed at his side. Tears blurred her eyes, her own hands trembled as the blossom slipped from the fingers and fell to the ground.
“Don’t………” Legolas pleaded softly.
“Don’t what?” Temperance murmured, looking down at her shaking hands and gathering them against her chest. She heard him draw a swift breath, and suddenly found herself wrapped in his embrace.
“Don’t ask it of me.” He said, against her hair.
“Please don’t ask it of” He” He begged, his lips moved over her ear.
“What about me? What about what you’re asking of me?” She wanted to scream at him but she knew he wouldn’t understand. Laying her head on his chest, Temperance savored the small amount of comfort he was offering. Gently He set her away from him and looked down upon her face.
“I will wait. I will wait however long it takes. But I will not settled for anything less than your love and your pledge to be mine for always.” He safirmfirmly. After placing a soft kiss upon her lips, he slipped away from her. Temperance stood silently where he left her. Again tears formed in her eyes, this time she made no move to stop them. She could never win. Nothing was easy for her. Everything was complicated. Sinking to a nearby bench Temperance cried. Temperance thought she was alone in the gardens when she heard a soft voice call.
“Arwen? Arwen is that you?” was asked as someone stepped into the alcove where Temperance was hiding.
“No…….I’m not Arwen.” Temperance said, dropping her head so that her hair formed rtairtain hiding her tears from the intruder.
“No. Now that I am closer I can see that you are not my daughter. You are too small to be her.” Celebrían said, looking down at her. Temperance gave a grunt of disgust. Always with the shortness. Celebrían sat softly beside Temperance. She wondered at the girl at her side. She could have swore it was Arwen who had passed by her earlier. She had seen the girl in the gardens before and she had seen the elf that followed her. He haunted her every step. Celebrían’s thoughts once again switched to those of her daughter. Just as she was about to leave, the girl beside her turned to face Celebrían. She looked into the blue eyes and tears flooded in her eyes.
“ oh…….” Celebrían said, while tears slid down her cheeks. Temperance watched in confusion as Celebrían reached out and placed a hand on her cheek.
“You have her eyes……”
A/n: ah…..so what did you think? Again I’m sorry it took me so long….i was drawing blanks for inspiration on this story. Hopefully it won’t be so hard anymore….Later.
