Chapter Twelve
Disclaimer: Nope, we don’t own them. Wish we did. This never happened (well, to the best of our knowledge), it’s just a figment of our twisted little imaginations. And we do hope that you enjoy it. :-D
Inside the house, Vanessa looked over her shoulder quickly as boisterous singing started coming from the side window.
“Stay here,” she ordered Orlando, then dragged Elijah into the back of the house.
“Shit,” Orlando hissed under his breath as he fidgeted. He recognized the singing as Dom and Billy’s. . .but what were they doing?
He decided it didn’t matter. He needed to get Elijah and get the hell out of that house.
With that in mind, he headed off after Vanessa and Elijah. He had no idea how he was going to do it, but he’d overpower her somehow and grab Elijah and run like hell.
“Psst!”
The sound hit him from behind, coming from the front door.
Orlando nearly jumped out of his skin as he whirled around to see who was ‘psst’ing at him.
“Viggo!” he whispered, his eyes widening as he hurried over to the older man. Wee! Viggo was here! They could rescue Elijah now!
“Vanessa’s taken Elijah to the back of the house,” he said urgently. “She’s fucking turned him.”
Viggo’s expression became grave.
“So there’s two vampires heading to the side of the house right now?” he asked, a feeling of dread spreading in his stomach.
Orlando nodded. “Yeah, basically.”
Then he paled. “Oh shit. Dom and Billy.”
Fuck! This nightmare just kept getting worse!
“C’mon, we’ve got to save ‘em,” he said, starting toward the door.
******
“Is this working?” Billy muttered as he danced around like an idiot.
“No clue,” Dom admitted, shrugging.
They both stopped dead when the side door started opening.
“Hey! It’s Lij!” Billy cheered, when he saw the first person to emerge from the house.
“Oh thank god!” Dom breathed, relaxing a little.
“God can’t help you now,” Elijah said, grinning maliciously, exposing his fangs.
“Oh. Shit,” Billy said, turning white.
Dom squeaked, staring at Vanessa, who was hovering at Elijah.
Viggo dashed to the side door, pulling Orlando with him. He froze when he saw that Vanessa and Elijah had Billy and Dom pinned against the side of the adjacent house.
“Lij,” Billy croaked. “Okay, you’re cute and all, but I kinda have a thing for Dom.”
“Billy!” Dom cried out, his eyes bulging out of his head.
“What?!” Billy responded, trying to make his head flatten even more against the wall. Wow, those were some sharp teeth Elijah had.
Viggo’s mind raced, trying to figure out what to do. He glanced at Orlando, then back at Elijah, and suddenly got an idea so desperate, so disgusting, it had to work.
“Follow my lead,” he muttered to Orlando, then whistled loudly.
Elijah’s head snapped around at the sound.
Vanessa looked over as well. Who was this now?
“Hey Lij!” Viggo called out. “Since you’ve suddenly developed a thing for Billy, mind if I borrow Orlando?”
With that, he shoved Orlando against the doorframe and kissed him full on the mouth.
“Holy shit!” Billy and Dom exclaimed in unison.
Orlando’s eyes widened and he almost pushed Viggo away. . .until he remembered the older man had told him to follow his lead. . .
Well, okay then. . .
He moaned against Viggo’s lips, wrapping his arms around his waist as he returned the kiss.
He hoped Viggo knew what the hell he was doing. . .
With a snarl, Elijah lunged at Viggo, knocking him to the ground.
“I’ll kill you!” the smaller man vowed viciously, grabbing Viggo by the hair and yanking his head sideways to expose his neck. “He’s mine!”
“Orli? A little help here?” Viggo hinted, amazed at how strong Elijah was.
Vanessa rolled her eyes. Ridiculous mortal emotions would fade soon enough.
She turned back to Dom and grinned wickedly at him.
“Hold still,” she purred. “This is going to hurt.”
“Fuck!” Orlando hissed, lunged at Elijah. He wrapped one arm around Elijah’s waist, bringing his other hand down hard on Elijah’s arm. “Get a grip, Lij! Snap out of it!” He didn’t want to hurt Elijah. . .but he wasn’t gonna let him kill Viggo either.
Fuck! Dom was about to get eaten!
Elijah let out an inhuman, frustrated noise, and let go, then whimpered and looked at Orlando, betrayal obvious in his large eyes.
Viggo swallowed against the coppery taste of adrenaline in his mouth, and made a note to check his shorts at the first available opportunity.
Meanwhile, Billy fumbled around until he found the stake he’d armed himself with earlier in the evening. He raised it above his head, aiming for Vanessa.
“Back off bitch! I saw him first!” he cried out, then brought down the stake.
Vanessa grabbed his arm, and broke it effortlessly. Billy cried out in pain, sinking to the ground.
“Billy!” Dom cried out.
“No,” Elijah whispered, compassion and warmth flooding back into his big blue eyes. What was going on? Why were his friends hurting?
Orlando looked at Elijah hopefully. “Elijah?” he whispered, cupping Elijah’s cheek in his hand.
He glanced at Viggo for a second to make sure he was all right and then focused his attention back on Elijah.
“Please, Elijah, you have to fight her influence. For me.” He hesitated a moment before adding, “Because I love you.”
“I love you too,” Elijah said sincerely, his voice suddenly filled with its usual warmth. “I. . . “
He said nothing more, but headed toward Dom, Billy and Vanessa.
“Mistress!” he called out.
“Not now, fool!” Vanessa hissed, her attention focuse Bil Billy, who was quickly going into shock.
“But Mistress!” Elijah said, crouching down to pick up the fallen stake.
“No, boy! Obey me and stay back!” Vanessa snarled.
“He’s crazy,” Viggo hissed, scrambling to his feet. He winced. He was getting too old for this. “Orlando. Do something.”
“Yeah, but what?!” Orlando cried, suddenly feeling hysterical. Telling Elijah he loved him hadn’t snapped him out of his trance. . .or had it?
What the hell was Elijah planning to do with that stake?
Shit! And Billy was going into shock! Argh, he couldn’t remember his first aid training. . .too long ago. . .
“I’m completely fucking useless,” he muttered helplessly.
Elijah crouched down next to Billy, touching Vanessa’s arm. She looked at him with annoyance.
“May I first?” he asked, giving her his best doe eyes.
“Oh, I suppose,” Vanessa said, irritated.
Elijah suddenly lunged forward, jabbing the stake into Vanessa’s chest. Vanessa gasped, her head snapping back. She pawed at her chest, around the stake.
Elijah choked, looking confused, as pain exploded in his own chest. He fell back next to Billy.
“Oh no,” Viggo whispered, then started toward the fray.
Dom looked over at Orlando, looking completely overwhelmed. He wavered on his feet, then fainted.
Orlando hissed in pain and staggered over to Elijah, falling to his knees beside him. “Elijah,” he whispered, placing one hand on Elijah’s chest, the other touching his cheek.
Damn it, he should be helping Viggo kill Vanessa, but he needed to make sure Elijah was okay first.
“Elijah, love, this’ll all be over in a few minutes,” he whispered, leaning down to softly kiss Elijah’s lips.
Billy groaned, watching as Viggo picked up a large rock and used it to pound the steak into Vanessa’s chest. The vampire shrieked at him and clawed at the air, her body spasming wildly, shuddering with every impact, bloody foam frothing out of her mouth.
Elijah shuddered against Orlando in time with the convulsions of Vanessa’s body, mewling softly in pain. He closed his eyes and tried to concentrate on Orlando’s kiss.
For the second time that night, he felt like he was dying.
Lights started flicking on in nearby houses as people began investigating the ungodly noises. Viggo looked up, his clothing stained with gore.
Knowing he had little time left, he pulled the machete out of the pack and hacked Vanessa’s head off, blood splattering against the walls of the houses. Elijah gagged, clawing at his throat as his vision blurred.
The final step, stuffing the vampire’s head with garlic, was also the most gory. When Viggo was done, his hands were covered in blood and tissue. He fought back the urge to gag.
Elijah stopped moving, his body going limp against Orlando’s. His eyes were still closed. He wasn’t breathing.
Orlando groaned, partly from the pain he was feeling as Vanessa was slain and partly from the sensation of Elijah’s body shuddering against his. Now was probably a bad time to be thinking about sex, but damn, if he wasn’t as he kissed Elijah harder.
And then suddenly Elijah went limp. Orlando’s eyes widened and he pulled away. “Elijah?” he said. He realized Elijah wasn’t breathing and felt fear mingling with the discomfort he felt at Vanessa’s slaying. No, he couldn’t lose Elijah now. Not after everything they’d been through.
“Damn you, you promised I wouldn’t lose you,” he whispered frantically as he forced Elijah's mouth open. He covered Elijah’s mouth with his own and began forcing air into his lungs.
Shit, was it 15 presses to the chest and then breathe or the other way around? Fuck. . .he couldn’t remember.
Dom groaned and stirred, sitting up a little. Billy was breaking out in a light sweat, shivering as shock sank in, but nonetheless looked relieved that he was alright.
“This is feeling kind of familiar, isn’t it?” he asked through shivering lips.
“This isn’t a movie though,” Dom said, looking uncomfortable. Was that dew on the grass, or had he pissed himself?
Viggo looked up sharply, blood flecked on his neck and right cheek. He glanced over at Billy and Dom, then turned his attention to Orlando and Elijah.
“What’s going on?” he hissed, glancing up again as more lights came on. People were starting to trickle out of their houses, too.
Orlando glanced up at Viggo, eyes shining with unshed tears. “He isn’t. . .breathing,” he said, his voice breaking in mid-sentence.
And it was 5 presses and then breathe. He remembered now.
“C’mon, Elijah, fucking breathe,” he pleaded as he laced his fingers together and began pressing down on Elijah’s chest, then blew another breath into him.
Viggo only had a moment to look concerned before he saw some of the neighbors creeping toward them.
“Shit,” he hissed, then got up and headed toward the street, preparing another quick lie.
“Hey folks,” he said, putting on his best charming ‘aw shucks’ voice. “Heh, sorry to wake you. We’re just shooting a promotional thing and we’re trying to keep it secret, so we’d appreciate if you’d. . .”
He put a bloody finger to his lips.
“Who ARE you?” someone asked.
“Oh, sorry,” he said, then wiped his hands on his pants. “We’re just Lord of the Rings cast look-alikes. Not really good ones, I know, but hey, it’s a living.”
The crowd murmured amongst itself. Yeah, okay, he did look a BIT like Aragorn.
Orlando ignored the crowd, ignored Viggo and concentrated on Elijah. Fuck, why wasn’t it working?! Why wasn’t he breathing?!
“Damn it, Elijah, don’t give up on me,” he begged, tears beginning to stream down his face. “Please. . .”
If Elijah died, he’d never forgive himself. . . It was all his fault Elijah had gotten involved anyway. . .
“What’s wrong?” Dom whispered, keeping his voice down so that no one would overhear.
Billy sat up, cradling his broken arm, then spit on Vanessa’s corpse. Bitch.
Suddenly, an ungodly, shrieking hiss came from the corpse, and it crumbled to dust. The blood that had splattered everywhere evaporated, leaving no trace.
Viggo forced a smile.
“Movie magic! Ta da!” he improvised. “Fake blood that evaporates, see? Easy clean up. It’s going to revolutionize special effects.”
God, he didn’t even BEGIN to buy that one, but a few people looked impressed.
A second later, Elijah’s eyes snapped open, and he inhaled desperately as his lungs started working again.
“Elijah?” Orlando said, tears streaming down his face. He didn’t care if anybody saw him crying; Elijah was still alive!
“Oh thank god!” he sobbed, grabbing Elijah up in a tight hug. “I was so afraid I’d lost you.”
But he hadn’t and things were going to be okay.
Viggo turned around quickly.
“Shhh!” he hissed at Orlando viciously. He turned back to the crowd with another sheepish grin.
“Rehearsals,” he fibbed.
“Maybe we should get them inside,” Dom suggested.
Orlando flushed, then loosened his hold on Elijah, lowering his voice to whisper, “Are you all right, Lij? Do you think you can stand?”
Oh please say something, love! he thought.
Elijah nodded, but his eyes made the panic he was feeling clear. He’d been undead, then he’d been dead. WAY too much for one night.
“I’ll try,” he managed weakly, then swallowed hard.
Dom helped Billy to stand, but was a little unsteady on his feet as well. Yup, yup, his pants were bloody damp. It was dew. That was his story, and he was sticking to it.
“Okay, uh, I think we’re wrapping,” Viggo said, then waved to the crowd. “Bye everyone! Thanks for your understanding!”
Definitely too old for this. WAY too old.
Orlando helped Elijah to his feet, then slid a protective arm around him. “Don’t worry, I’ve got ya,” he said softly as he gently maneuvered him toward the house.
He smiled gratefully at Viggo. This nightmare was over, right?
“That’s two,” Elijah croaked, leaning on Orlando gratefully. He made a bit of a face when he reminded himself of what Orlando’s remaining wish had been. Gulp. Awkward.
“I’m guessing yes,” Viggo said, glancing down at the dust that was scattering in the light breeze, all that remained of the once fearsome vampire.
“We need to get Billy to a hospital,” Dom said.
“I’m fine,” Billy insisted.
“Piss off, your arm’s broken!” Dom objected. “Don’t be daft. Just let us take care of you.”
He winced.
“The first person that makes a joke about that dies,” he muttered.
“Not a word,” Viggo said with a wicked grin.
Elijah grinned in spite of himself, then sighed with relief. Things finally looked as if they might work out.
