Truth
Truth
"You wanted to explain something to me," he reminds me after a few polite sips from his tea.
"Yes," I whisper, trying to smile, "I wanted to tell you why I behaved the way I did."
"Well, don't let me keep you from doing it," he glances pointedly at his watch, "I could be spending my time with people who actually happen to like me."
Unlike you. remains unsaid but I wince nervertheless. I deserved that. Truly, I did. But I have to go on as long as there is even a small chance of preventing Sean from hating me. It's time to finally tell the truth. Though maybe not all of it. Just the necessary parts.
"First of all," I start shakily, "I never meant to behave like a bastard, please let me apologise for that."
He raises his eyebrows in surprise but doesn't call me a liar. At least. maybe there's still some hope.
"I just didn't know how to deal with the way I was feeling," I continue, wincing again as the hardness refuses to fade from his gaze, "Everything was just too overwhelming and..."
"And that's the crappiest excuse for behaving like a bastard that I've ever heard," he cuts in, "What exactly was too overwhelming? Being included in a project like the Lord of the Rings? Working long hours? Meeting a lot of new people? What was it that threw you off balance?"
"Falling in love with you the moment I first saw you," I rush out, using his shocked silence to jump out and run out of the tent. Damn it. Damn me for being a fool and damn the world for existing and being so damned unfair.
My heart races like a runaway train as I finally slow down somewhere in the Mines of Moria. I fucked up. Royally, wonderfully, big time. There's no going back now.
