Chapter 11
Erestor was sitting down at his desk in his study trying to finish a report for Elrond with little success. Erestor sighed as, once again, Faron batted at his quill, “You know, how am I supposed to get my work done, Faron, if you keep playing with my quill, hmm?”
“Meow!” Faron said, as he rolled onto his back and looked up at Erestor with his head upside down.
Chuckling, Erestor scratched Faron’s chin, “Are you bored, kitty?”
Faron jumped to his feet and meowed. Crouching down, he whipped his tail back and forth as he watched Erestor swing the feathered quill in front of him.
Erestor smiled and drew the quill out of Faron’s reach as he swiped out with his paw. Erestor played with Faron for a few minutes more until he felt eyes upon him. Looking around the room, he saw the other cats gazing at him with intent in their eyes. Arching a brow, Erestor asked with a mischievous smile, “Oh, and you all want to play, too?”
Soon the chamber was filled with the choir of meows and Erestor jumped up and raced out of his study, the cats fast in pursuit. Laughing, Erestor ran down the hallway towards the side door that led out to the garden behind the Last Homely House, startling the elves that he passed on his way. Erestor leaped down the steps and ran around bushes and trees, breathing hard with excitement. Creeping quietly around the tree he was hiding behind, he let out a yelp when he was spotted by a dozen yellow eyes and meows filled the air.
Elrond frowned when he heard the cats and walked out to the balcony of his study and stared in wonder at the sight before him. Shaking his head, he watched as Erestor ran to and fro, trying to evade the many cats that were stalking him. If Erestor were not laughing and smiling so, Elrond would have been concerned, but the happiness that he saw on Erestor’s face warmed his heart. Hearing a knock on his door, he called for them to enter as he continued to watch Erestor playing with the cats.
“Elrond?”
Elrond looked over his shoulder and motioned Glorfindel to come out to the balcony, “Come and see what your mate is up to.”
Glorfindel arched his brow as he came to stand next to Elrond and looked down into the garden and gasped as he saw Erestor fall to the ground laughing, the many cats piling on top of him, meowing out their victory. Shaking his head at what he was seeing, Glorfindel called out, “Erestor, need any help?”
Erestor was breathing hard and with all of the cats on top of him he could not see Glorfindel. “I am fine, meleth (love), we are just having some fun,” Erestor said as he tried to untangle himself from the felines. When they started purring and licking his hands and face, he giggled, “Ai (Ah)! Enough, saes (please), that tickles.”
“It is amazing that Erestor has formed such an attachment to those cats and them with him,” Elrond said as Glorfindel and he watched the cats climb off of Erestor. Turning, Elrond asked, “Was there something that you needed, Glorfindel?”
“Yes, I came to inform you that a scout has returned from the border. The Lothlórien party will be here in a few hours,” Glorfindel said as he watched Erestor stand and look up at him. Calling down to Erestor, he said, “Melui (Sweet), Sídhon and the others will be here in a few hours.”
“Oh! I have to get their rooms made up and food prepared for them; I am sure that they will be hungry when they arrive. I have to tell Mel to have everything ready. I need to make sure that Lindir and his minstrels are ready for the feast tomorrow and that Galuwen has food prepared for the feast…” Erestor rambled as he ran into the Last Homely House and out of sight.
Elrond shook his head and said, “I think Erestor is a little nervous.”
Glorfindel sighed, “Yes, he is. He is so grateful for Sídhon and his help and he wants to make everything perfect for him and his ion (son).”
“It is normal to be nervous about your first Elfling, even more so in Erestor’s case. I am sure that everything will be fine,” Elrond said as he placed a hand on Glorfindel’s shoulder.
Glorfindel looked into Elrond’s eyes and said, “I hope so, mellon nín (my friend). I will leave you now; I need to check in with Daugion and make sure there are quarters ready for the Galadhrim in the barracks.”
“Yes, I have some things to do, like track down my Chief Advisor and make sure that he does not run himself ragged before the visitors arrive,” Elrond sighed as he walked out of his study with Glorfindel.
“Saes (Please) do, I do not want my mate to tire himself out,” Glorfindel said before he walked down the hallway, heading to the barracks.

Sídhon was a bit nervous when they cantered down the lane and into the courtyard, knowing that he was going to finally meet the legendary Balrog Slayer and the renowned Chief Advisor. He had longed to meet these two ellyn (pl. m. elf) for quite some time, and now, not only was he going to meet them, he was going to assist them with a very personal matter. Also, he was excited to finally meet another ellon (m. elf) that was able to bear an Elfling because now he did not feel so unique; all he had ever wanted was to be like everyone else. Even though he was made to feel different and somehow strange in his ability to give life, he would never want it differently, for his ion was his world. But even so, Sídhon did long for, deep down in his heart, someone to love him, unreservedly, and unconditionally.
Glorfindel felt his hervenn’s (husband’s) nervousness and looked down to find Erestor tugging on the sleeves of his robe, a nervous habit he seemed to be doing more and more these days. Reaching out, he took Erestor’s left hand with his right and gave it a slight squeeze, “Melui, everything will be fine, you will see.”
Sighing, Erestor leaned into Glorfindel and said, “I know, it is just that he has been so kind to uproot himself and his ion to come assist us, total strangers. I just want him to feel at home, as much as possible, while he is here.”
Glorfindel smiled and placed a kiss upon the top of Erestor’s head and said, “I am sure that you will make him feel at ease, hervenn nín.”
Just then they saw the first of the procession that made their way into the courtyard. Elladan and Elrohir, who had a silver-haired Elfling seated before him, led the group, followed by Arwen and other silver-haired elves, and finally Rúmil bringing up the rear. Stable hands came forward and took the reins of the horses and waited for their masters to dismount so they could stable the horses, the many packs sent either to the barracks or The Last Homely House, in accordance to whose they were. As quickly as they could, Elladan and Elrohir dismounted and rushed into their Adar’s (Father’s) arms.
Elrond held his ions close, then pulled back so he could cradle their faces in his hands, “Ai (Ah), how I have missed you!”
The twins looked into their Adar’s eyes and identical smiles lit their faces, “Adar, you glow with your happiness. We are so happy that you and Haldir have bound yourselves together!” Elrohir said, hugging his Adar once again.
Elladan moved and embraced Haldir, slapping him on the back, “Do not expect us to call you Ada (Daddy), Hal,” he said with a smirk.
Haldir chuckled, “Aye, please do not!”
When Elrohir moved to hug and congratulate Haldir, Arwen appeared and threw herself into Elrond’s arms, “Ada! I am so happy for the both of you!”
“My precious one, how happy I am that you are home. Imladris is never the same when you are gone,” Elrond whispered has he held Arwen in a crushing embrace, never wanting to let her go again.
Arwen laughed and gasped, “Ada, you are crushing me! I promise to not leave home for quite some time. Besides, I want to be here so I can spoil Erestor’s and Glorfindel’s Elfling!”
Erestor and Glorfindel found themselves surrounded by the three very excited elves and were asked, all at once, question after question until Elrond had to intercede, “Ai! You must give them time to answer your question before you ask another; you will make them dizzy if you continue bombarding them all at once.”
Erestor smiled, “Hannon le (Thank you) to all of you for coming home early, you do not know how much this means to us.”
Arwen smiled and gave a quick kiss to Erestor’s cheek before she moved away and approached Sídhon and Istuion, bringing them forward to join the group. By that time Rúmil had made his way to his brother and they were in the middle of embracing, Rúmil telling Haldir about what has been going on in the Golden Wood and with their brother Orophin. “He really wanted to come but did not want to leave Faeliel, he was worried that she would find interest in someone else in his absence,” Rúmil said, shaking his head.
Haldir laughed, “He has not made a move yet? I swear, at the rate he is going, he will never gain the courage to do so!”
“I know! I threatened him that if he had not confessed his feelings to her by the time I got back, that the first thing I would do when I returned is tell her myself.”
“Let me guess, he did not take that too well?” Haldir smiled.
Rúmil crossed his arms over his chest and scowled, “He threw me out of the talan!”
Haldir laughed and threw his arm over his brother’s shoulder, “Oh, my poor baby brother!”
Rúmil elbowed Haldir in the stomach, causing his brother to suck in his breath, “Hey, it hurt; if it had not been for that branch I caught hold of on the way down, I could have broken something very important!”
Elrond just arched a brow at the comical interaction between them. Drawing Haldir to his side so he could loop his arm around his mate’s, Elrond said, “Rúmil, I would appreciate it if you would not injure my mate.”
“Really, you two!” Arwen laughed, then turned to Sídhon and said, “May I introduce Sídhon and his ion, Istuion. Sídhon, Istuion, this is my Ada, Elrond; you already know Haldir. And finally this is Glorfindel, Captain of the Guard, and Erestor, Chief Advisor.”
Istuion and Sídhon bowed, “It is nice to meet you all,” said Sídhon.
Erestor walked forward and held out his hand to Sídhon and said, “I can never tell you how much it means to us that you have come to help me, a stranger, but I hope that will change and we become good friends.”
Sídhon smiled warmly and clasped Erestor’s forearm and said, “I understand completely what you are going through and I have no doubt that we will become fast friends.”
Erestor smiled and Glorfindel approached to take his turn to greet the silver-haired ellon and his ion, finding Istuion to be polite and quite adorable. They stood there in the courtyard for a few minutes talking about their journey and news from Caras Galadhon until finally Elrond said, “Well, I am sure you all are quite tired from your journey. Your rooms have been prepared and food awaits you there. Tonight we will have a light dinner in my private dining chamber and then tomorrow, we celebrate the return of family, old friends, and new ones.”
“Yes, of course, you must be tired and hungry! If you would follow me, I will show you to your rooms,” Erestor said as he motioned for Sídhon and Istuion to follow him while Glorfindel took a few of their packs that were brought to rest at their feet, “The rest of your things will be brought to you later this evening.”
“Hannon le,” Sídhon said as he took Istuion’s hand and they followed the two legendary ellyn, both looking about with wide-eyes at the beauty that made up Imladris and The Last Homely House.
“Here are the chambers you will be using during your stay,” Erestor said as they came to the door, “Two doors down are our rooms. Should you need anything, do not hesitate to knock on our door, day or night.”
Sídhon smiled, “Hannon le, Master Erestor.”
“Call me Erestor,” Erestor said with a smile as he led them through the antechamber and into the bedroom.
Glorfindel walked over and deposited the packages onto the bed, “These chambers used to be mine before Erestor and I married. We moved my desk out of here,” he said as he showed them the room he used to use for his study, “And we put a bed, an armoire, and a chest with a few toys in it for Istuion.”
Sídhon smiled as he ruffled Istuion’s hair, “Well, that was nice of them.”
Istuion smiled back and then looked to Erestor and Glorfindel and said, “Yes, hannon le, Lord Glorfindel.”
“Just Glorfindel, we do not go by formal titles with our friends,” Glorfindel said as he opened up the chest to show Istuion what was inside, “These were some of the twins’ toys that we took out of storage, they are yours now.”
Istuion smiled with glee as he carefully took out a set of elf figurines, complete with swords and bows, a few horses, and even a couple of wargs.
“Ion, you go ahead and play for a bit while I say goodbye to Erestor and Glorfindel,” Sídhon smiled down at his ion who was already setting up the elves to do battle with the wargs.
Istuion looked up from where he sat on the floor, “Hannon le, Ada! Glorfindel, Erestor, hannon le for everything!”
Erestor chuckled at his excitement, “You are most welcome,” then led them out to the bedchamber once more, “The bathing chamber is over there next to the balcony that looks down into one of the many gardens that surround The Last Homely House. On the morrow, Glorfindel and I will take you on a tour of The Last Homely House and in the afternoon, if you feel up to it, we will go and visit the market. There, you can purchase anything you need. The village, not far from here, has a herd of sheep and trades their wool with us. There is an elleth that makes beautiful fabrics, yarns, and threads from it that I think you might like. Haldir tells us that you are wonderful weaver.”
“Yes, I weave and sew, that is my profession. I brought some of my things with me but had to leave some behind,” Sídhon said.
“We thought you would also like to visit the weaver’s cottage, it is across from the Healing House. We have many looms you can choose from. Whichever you choose can be moved into here for you to work comfortably. And if you want, you can work with the other weavers in the cottage,” Glorfindel offered.
Sídhon was extremely touched by all that they had given him and Istuion already and this made him speechless. When he finally found his voice, he rushed forward and hugged Glorfindel, “Hannon le, Glorfindel,” and then he moved to Erestor and hugged him, “Hannon le, Erestor!”
Erestor smiled at Glorfindel over Sídhon’s shoulder and said, “You are very welcome, mellon nín (my friend).”
Sídhon realized what he was doing and quickly stepped back a few feet, blushing bright red, “I am so sorry!”
Glorfindel chuckled, “There is nothing to be sorry about. We are so happy that you are here to help us.”
“We will leave you now so you can get some rest. Either Glorfindel or I will come for you to take you to Elrond’s chambers for dinner,” Erestor said as he took Glorfindel’s hand.
“Sounds wonderful,” Sídhon replied as he walked Erestor and Glorfindel to the door.
As Erestor and Glorfindel were walking down the hallway, Erestor pulled his mate into their chambers, quickly shutting the door, “I am so happy!” Erestor exclaimed, as he threw his arms about Glorfindel.
Glorfindel laughed and held Erestor close, “Ai, melui! I am delighted that you are feeling so happy!”
Erestor leaned back so he could look into Glorfindel’s eyes and said, “I think I am really going to become great friends with Sídhon.”
“Yes, he and his ion are wonderful,” Glorfindel said, then tapped Erestor’s nose, “And might I say how adorable you looked out in the garden this morning, rolling around with the cats.”
Erestor blushed, “It was all Faron’s idea!”
“Uh-huh,” Glorfindel said, trying not to laugh.
Narrowing his eyes, Erestor asked, “You do not believe your hervenn?”
Glorfindel lost the battle to keep from smiling and swooped down and kissed Erestor’s pouting lips, “Mmmm…. You taste so good.”
Erestor sighed and leaned against Glorfindel for a few more moments until finally, he reluctantly pulled out of his mate’s arms, “Meleth, if we continue, then I will definitely not get any work done today!”
It was Glorfindel’s turn to pout but nodded in agreement and they both left their chambers to go about their duties.
