Sugar High and Low
Chapter 13
When we got back to the house, we found Elijah sitting on the front step. He was smoking a clove, and Dom didn't really want that in his house...which I fully understood. When we pulled up he ran up to my door and opened it. I didn't wait for Billy to come around with my crutches, and instead jumped onto Elijah's back and let him carry me inside. He plopped me down on the couch with a laugh, and fell beside me. He smelled like cloves and cologne, which wasn't a horrible combination, but I could do with out the cigarette smoke.
"So they treated you to something then..." Elijah raised an eyebrow at them as they walked in silently.
"Coffee and chocolate." I replied happily, I felt like I was a kid again.
He looked at his watch, "Well I suppose it's still early enough to not spoil your dinner..." He grinned and tapped the tip of my nose. He then turned his attention back to the other two. "I said look after her...not get her hyper on caffeine." He laughed at our guilty expressions.
"Well....the lass needed major cheering up, and we felt that the best way was to give her chocolate. Since she herself claimed to be a chocoholic on the way to the cafe."
"Cheering up...?" Elijah turned back to me. "What happened?"
He asked with his eyes if I wanted the other two to leave but I shook my head. "I had another dream. Billy found me and tried to calm me down, and they treated me to coffee and a chocolate desert. They know about the other dreams Elijah...I told them. It would come up sooner or later, and I figured if I told them immediately it would be less uncomfortable later...for us all."
Elijah wrapped me into a hug, "I'm sorry I wasn't here for you."
"No no...it's okay. I'm alright now, I'll make sure you're there for the next one." I grinned.
"Well if I'm around I'll make sure you don't have another one, wouldn't that be even better?"
"That's a full time job Mr. Wood...sure you are up to something like that?"
"Maybe I am." He smiled and kissed me on the hand. We both jumped when we heard a sigh and a sniffle from the other side of the room. We turned our heads to see Dom and Billy wrapped in a silly embrace. Billy was handing Dom a tissue.
Elijah laughed and I tossed a cushion at them. "You know for actors in one of the biggest movies since Star Wars you sure can't act." I jested to them.
"I beg your pardon!" Dom began.
I laughed, "Well you'll have to beg harder than that." Elijah burst out laughing as Dom dropped to the floor and began to "humbly" beg for my forgiveness.
"Dom get up you goof." Elijah said through laughs.
"But Dom has been bad... needs to be punished." He looked up and wiggled his eyebrows at me, which got Elijah’s attention enough to stop his laughs. Seeing this Dom immediately looked to him. "Oh I'm sorry 'Lij...did you want to do the honors?" I discretely handed Elijah a pillow which he then proceeded to beat Dom with.
Billy in the meantime had sat down across from us in a comfortable looking armchair to watch the show. By the time we'd all calmed down it was close to dinner time. Dom in true hobbit fashion, had had several apples through out the afternoon, and still managed to be the first to inquire about dinner. Billy made a wonderful Beef Stew for dinner, with red New Zealand wine to compliment it. It was wonderful, but soon it was time to go to bed. I'd tried to avoid sleeping since my nap that afternoon, but I knew if I didn't sleep tonight, I'd miss going to Peter Jackson’s house for the cast party reunion. I'd offered to stay at Doms during that time, but they'd not hear of it. As "Elijah's Girl" I was now a member of the family. I'd been given my own room, while Billy, Dom and Elijah took the remaining two. Elijah's room was right across the hall from mine, so when Billy and Dom had turned in for the night, I crept into the hall and tapped lightly on his door.
"Come in?" I heard muffled.
I opened the door a crack and slipped in. "I'm sorry to bother you, but could I sleep here with you tonight? I don't want to wake up alone if I have another dream like I had earlier." I looked at the floor, suddenly embarrassed for asking to share a bed with him.
"Oh gosh it's no problem!" He walked to the closet and got another pillow, then held open the sheets so I could climb in. When he climbed back in beside me I immediately scooted over so he could wrap his arm around me. I felt safe, and secure in his arms. I was so sure I'd sleep through the night with him close.
"You okay Sarah?" He whispered into my hair. I nodded and snuggled in closer to him. Elijah was in awe of the purity of this moment. Here he was in bed with a girl, and he couldn't believe that this could be so comfortable. He gave me a squeeze and we both fell asleep, breathing in unison.
