Beauty contest
Dom has to pretend being straight while watching Miss Universe contests with his grandfather.
Disclaimer: Well, at least this COULD have happened. Didn’t say it has…
Author’s notes: This chap is a really short one, but I needed something happy for Dom after him being so depressed because of Viggo visiting. Reviews? Please! Perhaps you can guess who inspired me to write Dom’s grandfather like that! I think it’s obvious, but maybe that’s just me again…
12. Beauty contests
“Come in, come in, Dominic!”
Dom smiled at the grey figure of his grandfather, blue eyes shining in a wrinkled face. “Hello, Pop!”
“Give me your jacket,” his grandfather said, already pulling at Dom’s sleeve. “Do you want some tea?”
Dom was happy that his grandfather was so lively again. He had been crushed after Dom’s grandmother’s death and for some time they all had thought that he would follow her soon after her death. “Tea sounds great,” he answered and handed his jacket to Pop who was already heading towards the kitchen.
“Please take a seat in the living room! The Miss Universe contest will start in some minutes,” Pop called from the kitchen. “You don’t mind if we watch it?”
Dom grinned. Pop was always watching TV, especially when beautiful women were involved. Whenever Dom visited him he was watching sports, ballet or beauty contests. “No, not at all,” he replied when his grandfather walked into the living room, a kettle and cups in his hands.
“How do you want it?” Pop was waving with milk and sugar.
“White.” Dom poured two cups of tea. “Without sugar.”
“Do you want anything else with your tea?” Pop asked, handing Dom the milk. “Cookies? Cake?”
“Thank you, just tea,” Dom smiled.
Pop vanished in the kitchen again and came back with his mouth full of something. “Are you sure?” he pointed at a cookie in his hand. “They’re really good.”
He was really the same old Pop again. Dom shook his head. “No really, just tea…”
Pop shrugged his shoulders. “Leaves more for me then…” He switched on the TV. “Oh, it has started already!” Pop turned to Dom. “I like that Swedish girl,” he explained. “She looks so natural.” He pointed at the screen. “Look, Dominic! Isn’t she beautiful?”
Dom nodded, seemingly acknowledging the girl’s beauty.
“What do you think?” Pop asked, happy that someone shared his interest. “Which girl will win?”
//Fuck…//
“Hmm…” Dom pretended to be deeply in thoughts about the question. Finally he arched his eyebrows and sighed, “I don’t know…” He pointed at the television screen. “She’s nice…”
Pop looked at the girl on the screen and then at Dom, shaking his head disappointedly. “I thought at least you had an eye for it…”
Dom flinched. What did Pop mean?
“Her spine is all bent!” Pop exclaimed, gesturing at the girl. “Don’t you see it? She’ll be a hunchback before she’s forty!”
“Of course, Pop, now that you say it…” Dom smiled weakly. “I didn’t really look at her back…”
Pop started giggling. “That’s my grandson!”
Dom nodded. He hated pretending to be straight.
