Part 9
Part 9…
/What do you have to live for?/
Erestor felt the words pierce his soul; filling him with a despair he hadn’t realized he was still capable of. He squeezed his eyes shut against the swirling coldness of the water and the endless darkness that surrounded him, curling his body inwards as though to protect him fro from the pain in his chest. The burning in his lungs, signaling the depletion of his life supplying air, was dwarfed by the burning of his spirit as it struggled against the voice echoing in his mind, taunting him with its whispers.
/What do you have to live for?/
Around and around, again and again… getting stronger as he got weaker. Taunting, demanding an answer. A moment. A heart beat. His heart beat. Thudding weakly in his chest.
/What do you have to live for?/
Clawed hands formed fists before fingers spread wide and he struggled weakly against the current.
/What do you have to live for?/
Eyes opened against the harsh coldness of the water, and as the last of his air escaped through his nose to rise in bubbles towards the surface in front of his eyes, he sent his answer.
/Glorfindel/
And he let go, allowed himself to tumble freely into oblivion. Just as he was certain he had reached what ever end was waiting for him he felt a strong, warm hand entwine with his and tug him forward to be embraced against an equally strong body. Figh the the approach of eternal darkness he peered at the form that held him in the swirling water, seeing a glimmer of gold as he was pulled forcefully away from deaths grasp and towards warmth and light and life.
