The Fight

Chapter 10: The Fight

*In Gondor*

Faramir and Boromir stood against each, other swords drawn. The circled around and looked at each other. Faramir then took the first chance and attacked him. But Boromir anticipated his move and avoided the attack. He took a few steps to the left and hit his brother. A cut was formed on his lower arm. But Faramir didn't react. He spun around and faced his brother once again.

Boromir looked at his brother and said, "Faramir, this is folly. Why are you doing this? I cared for you and I always liked you. What is it that made you like this?"

Faramir laughed and said, "What do you care, dear brother? I like the way I am and no one made me like this. Now stop whining and get it over with." He once more attacked him and this time the sword hit Boromir's leg.

Boromir growled but he didn't give Faramir the chance to launch at him again. He took a few steps back and raised his sword. He sighed and said, "What do I tell father? I can't tell him that you went berserk now can I?"

Faramir just chuckled and attacked again.

The fight continued for a long while. Sweat was forming on their faces and other parts. They were getting tired but they didn't stop. They attacked one another over and over again; they avoided each attack. It was getting late in the day and the fight was still raging.

Faramir was too tired to raise his sword and was panting.

Boromir lowered his sword and said, "Are you stopping now, Faramir? Will you now come back with me?" He looked at his brother, waiting for an answer. But somehow he knew that his brother wasn't going to cooperate. He waited for a while till his brother looked at him and said, "Fine. I will come back to Gondor and face my death."

Boromir was stunned at his brother's words but he knew he was right. He smiled and said, "Maybe father won’t give you a death punishment. I will talk to him." He turned around and whistled on his fingers to call the other guards that were around somewhere. And that was his mistake.

Faramir smiled meanly and attacked his brother when he turned his back to him. He planted his sword in his back and whispered, "Dear brother, you're foolish to believe what I told you and look where it’s gotten you." He took his sword out of his brother’s back and took a few steps back and continued, "Like I said, I will not return to Gondor." He looked at him and then mounted the horse that had come to Boromir's call. He waved at his brother and rode off fast.

Boromir saw him leaving and gasped for air. How could he have been so foolish as to believe his brother? Would he survive this? He heard sounds and smiled when he saw guards approaching him. He didn't move, for the pain was too much. A guard was standing beside him to see what was wrong. When he saw the wound in Boromir's back, he called for other guards. They lifted him gently from the ground and took him back to Gondor.

After a while walking they returned to the city and they quickly moved to a large room that was for men who had been wounded in battles. The healer came rushing in and took off Boromir’s tunic. He looked at the wound and then started to clean. After that, he grabbed a little bowl and puts some medical herbs in it and started to mix it. When it was finished, he placed the paste over the wound and covered it. He looked at Boromir and said, "Milord, you will have to lay still for couple of hours so the paste can do its work." Boromir looked at him and nodded. He sighed and tears slipped from his eyes. He was fighting for his life. He felt cold and thought /Aragorn, where are you? I need you./

He saw a healer and said softly, "Healer, come over here." The healer turned around and looked at Boromir and said "Milord, you should not speak. You should rest." Boromir sighed and said "I don't care; get me a .... a messenger. Get me three messengers." The healer nodded and walked away and returned with three of the best and fastest messengers. Boromir looked at them and gave them the message that Aragorn had to return quickly. Each messenger listened closely and then they set off. One for Mirkwood; one for Lothlorien; and one for Rivendell. The healer felt sorry and said "Milord, drink this. It will let you sleep for a while." Boromir didn't want to, but he knew the healer was right. He took the drug and gave the empty cup back to the man. He looked to the window on his right and gazed outside; more tears were slipping down his cheek. After a few minutes he slept. The healer kept watch while he slept.

*in the woods*

Faramir kept riding and thought /I shouldn't have done that. He was my brother. I hope he fares well./ He looked around and wondered where he could be. He didn't know, however, that eyes were following him from the trees. He came to a big open clearing and dismounted his horse. He looked around and was stunned by its beauty. Those flowers were glistering as if they were made of silver. He walked to the flowers and sat down. He took out his water skin and poured some water in his mouth and swallowed it. He lay down and looks at the sky.

The six eyes that were looking at him asked themselves what he was doing here in their realm. They looked at each other and silently spoke to each other in their native tongue.

Boromir woke up again after a few hours and looked at the healer. He smiled a bit and still felt very cold. He wanted to move, but two hands held him and a soft voice said, "Don't move my friend. You have to stay like this or your wound might break open again. Or it might get worse." He looked up to see who it was and hoped it would be Aragorn. But, to his disappointment, it wasn't him but Arwen. He sighed and did as she said. He looked at her and asked, "What are you doing here?"

Arwen smiled and said, "When I heard the message about you being hurt, I had to be there even if the message wasn't meant for me. You're a good friend, Boromir, and I know that you are in love with Aragorn. I hope for your sake that he will arrive soon." She stroked his face and continued, "You will survive. You will get through this, you're strong." She smiled and sat down in a chair.

Boromir smiled and said, "You don’t mind about our relationship?" He felt more at ease when she shook her head. He closed his eyes once more and went back to a peaceful sleep.
