A new pet

Glorfindel pulled his new pet through the market place. He was so excited when his Ada gifted him with his new pet. He best friend Ecthelion had received his a few years before and was always tell him how great it was to take care of his pet. He finally had one, one of his very own. One to take care of, to feed, to bath, and to have sleep in his bed with him. He had promised his Ada that he would take good care of it. He knew how special it was to receive a pet. As he hurried along he could see the other elves smiling at his new pet. There were not many pets with such beautiful black hair as his had. Most had blond or brown hair. As he came to the training field he tied his new pet with the other pets. Reminding him to be good he patted his head and went off.

After practice he returned to retrieve his pet, as he approached he frowned as he noticed that his pet was sitting away from the others. Picking up his leash he headed home, he could not wait to bathe his new pet; he stopped on the way back home at a shop and brought some special oils and a brush. As he was walking out he noticed some petty red ribbons, picking up the ribbons, he grinned to himself at the thought of braiding them in his pets hair.

After the evening meal Glorfindel had taking his new pet to his bathing chambers and it was not long before he had his pet washed and seated in front of him. As he brushed the long black hair a thought came to his mind, “do you have a name;” he asked his new pet?

At receiving no answer he moved to where he could raise his pet’s chin to meet his eyes, “I asked what your name is?”

“I do not have one. They taught us that our masters would name us if they thought we needed one” was replied in barely a whisper.

“Will I think you do need one, How about Erestor ?“ Glorfindel asked.

When no reply came Glorfindel pulled on a piece of hair saying, “I do expect you to answer me when I ask you a question. Do I make my self-clear, Erestor?”

Erestor nodded his head as he lowered his eye as he had been taught. This elf confused him greatly. He had been taught what to expect as a pet to a Lord. He had been taught that he would bathe his Lord and he would do his hair, but here this Lord did these things to him instead. He had been taught to never speak to any elf higher then him self, and that he was not worth a name. This elf-Lord greatly confused him.

Soon Glorfindel had Erestor’s hair brushed and braided, with the new red ribbons in it. Pulling his pet to his feet Glorfindel pulled them to his bed. Pulling down the covers he guided Erestor to lay down and to move to the center, laying himself down he spooned up behind his pet, pulling him into his arms he promptly fell asleep.

Erestor stayed awake for awhile wondering what was going on. Maybe this Elf-Lord was still too young. He had heard of some elf-pets not lasting very long, some faded within a week of being brought. He prayed that when the time came he too would fade. He hated being a pet, but he had to admit that if he had to be a pet, being this Elf-Lords pet steamed to be better then one could hope for.
