Timeline: 2610 TA, a hundred years after Celebrían passes into the west. The rest is AU.

Chapter 1
Glorfindel was frantic. He listened as Landion explained to Elrond that as Erestor and their party were making their way here a scout they had sent out came back after spying a group of thirty orcs not far off their path. Erestor then decided to take twenty of his elves to track the orcs while Landion led the rest of the warriors on to the planned rendezvous point. The battle with the orcs had been over for nearly two hours and Erestor had yet to show. It was getting dark and Glorfindel knew something must be truly wrong for Erestor to not even send out a runner to let Elrond know of their condition and whereabouts.
~~~
When sentries were sent to Imladris to warn of the approaching horde of orcs threatening their northern border Elrond and Glorfindel decided that they would send out three troops of elves. Glorfindel would take his group of elves west and Landion would take his to the east. Elrond would then push forward so they would form a circle around the band of orcs, effectively barring their escape. Much to Glorfindel’s dismay Erestor had asked Elrond for permission to lead the group going East and Elrond agreed. Glorfindel didn’t doubt Erestor’s ability as a warrior, he was quite skilled as all elves were with weapons, but he didn’t want him in harms way. Never before had Erestor asked to go into battle when it wasn’t necessary. He was Elrond’s chief counselor, not a warrior by profession. When they had finished ironing out all of the details each left to make preparations and Glorfindel followed Erestor into his chambers.
“Erestor, why are you insisting on going?” Glorfindel demanded.
Erestor turned to look at his dear friend and was secretly pleased that he was worried that he was going. Erestor had been enchanted by this elf the first time he saw him. Glorfindel glowed from the inside, a golden warrior elf, weaving his spell on Erestor and he didn’t even know it. Elrond and he were best friends but Glorfindel had secretly stolen Erestor’s elusive heart.
“My friend, I am hurt that you would think that I could not take care of myself.”
Glorfindel could not help the growl that escaped his lips, “Erestor, you know I do not doubt your skill as a warrior but never have you sought out battle when there were others who are more than capable.”
Erestor felt the shadow creeping over the land just as every elf did and every time Glorfindel went out on his patrols, Erestor became a nervous wreck, though he never let anyone see. This time he felt an overwhelming need to go and couldn’t just stay behind this time.
“Glorfindel, this is my home also, is it not? Do I not have the right to want to defend it?” he asked as he turned to finish laying out his armor and supplies that he would need to take.
Glorfindel stalked over to Erestor and turned him around and said, “I just worry for my dear friend, I would not want anything to happen to you.”
Smiling he placed his hand over Glorfindel’s that held his shoulder and said, “Do not worry, my friend, I will take care. You must promise to be careful yourself.”
Squeezing Erestor’s shoulders once before letting them go he said, “Always.”
Coming back to the present Glorfindel looked to Elrond and said, “Please, Elrond, let me take out a search party.”
Elrond could see Glorfindel’s distress only because he knew him so well. He had suspected, for years, Glorfindel’s true feelings towards Erestor and his reactions now supported his suspicions.
Standing up, Elrond ordered his horse and said, “Glorfindel, gather forty able bodied elves and we will search out Erestor. Landion, you will be in charge here while we are gone.”
Glorfindel didn’t waste anytime and soon had his most trusted warriors mounted and ready to leave. They were about an hour and a half into their search when a scout came back to them with a very tired elf in tow.
Elrond called a halt to their procession and listened to Maedion relate the news of Erestor and his troops.
“My Lord Elrond, Erestor has sent me to inform you that we have defeated the band of orcs we came across. We managed to not lose any elves in the attack but some are grievously injured. Erestor did not want to move them until you or another healer could come to care for them,” Maedion said while trying to catch his breath.
Glorfindel felt relief but still wouldn’t be fully at ease until he saw Erestor with his own eyes. He had to pace himself, knowing that Maedion was exhausted, and he couldn’t pushed him at the pace he wanted to go. Two hours found them encountering the first sentry guarding Erestor’s camp.
Erestor was exhausted and covered in blood. He had cared for the injured as best he could but wasn’t a true healer. He just hoped that Maedion would arrive soon with reinforcements. He also hoped that Glorfindel was safe and he longed to go to him but knew he had his duty to his warriors. He just heard the cries of the sentries and turned in time to see Glorfindel jump down from his horse and run to him, embracing him tightly.
“Oh Erestor, you are safe my friend. We all worried when we did not hear from you or anyone in your party. Say something, are you well?” Glorfindel asked as inwardly he was shouting out with joy.
“Cannot breathe,” Erestor gasped.
Quickly letting go of Erestor he said, “Oh, I am sorry, I was just…Erestor, you are hurt!”
Erestor drank in the vision that was Glorfindel then saw his worry. Suddenly he realized that he was covered in blood.
“Oh, no I am not injured. There are many in my party that are though,” he said to assure Glorfindel that he was fine.
Glorfindel then looked around and saw the injured warriors and saw Elrond starting to help them. He then looked back at Erestor and saw how tired he was and knew that all the injured elves were getting to him. Those who really knew him knew that Erestor had a kind heart under all the gruff exterior.
Taking Erestor’s hand, “Come, my friend, and we will get you cleaned up and get some food into you, I am sure you are hungry.”
He grabbed his packs from his saddle and led Erestor to a stream that he saw meandering just outside of camp.
With the relief of seeing that Glorfindel was safe and well Erestor’s exhaustion overtook him. Once at the stream he let Glorfindel help him remove his tunic so he could wash the blood from his body.
Glorfindel thought that he could help Erestor wash himself but soon found out that it was too much of a temptation. Not wanting Erestor to see the effect his naked chest was having on him he gave him the cloth and said he would get the food from the pack while he finished washing.
Erestor sighed with relief when Glorfindel walked away to get the food. He was so tired that it was extraordinarily hard to hide his desire for him when his love was washing his body. Finishing washing Erestor put on the tunic that Glorfindel gave him and he breathed in Glorfindel’s scent. Closing his eyes briefly he imagined Glorfindel touching him where the tunic draped over him and moaned as he began to ache with his desire.
Glorfindel quickly looked at Erestor when he heard him moan and frowned in concern.
“Come Erestor, sit down on the blanket and eat. I have some dried meat and fruit and a skin of wine.”
Erestor walked over and sat, adjusting the tunic so Glorfindel wouldn’t be able to see his erection. He began to eat and asked Glorfindel for news on how the battle went today.
Between bites Glorfindel told him how they were able to kill all of the orcs in a relatively quick time though they lost a few of their warriors.
“Oh Glorfindel, I am sorry. I know you are close to all of your warriors. I am sure Elrond will honor them,” he said as he saw the sadness come over Glorfindel as he spoke of the battle and their fallen comrades.
“Thank you, my friend. I am so relieved that you are safe and all of those in your company. I am sure Elrond will be able to heal those who are injured.”
Erestor sighed as he finished his food and leaned back against the blanket. He was tired and chilled, it being the beginnings of fall.
Glorfindel watched Erestor lean back and close his eyes. Oh how wonderful he looked there and how tired. After putting the food back into the pack he laid down next to Erestor and pulled him into his arms.
Erestor stiffened in Glorfindel’s arms and asked, “What are you doing, Glorfindel?”
Glorfindel winced at Erestor’s reaction. How he wanted Erestor to love him but knew that he was nothing more that a friend to him.
“You need your rest, my friend, and it is cold. We will share our body heat for tonight so we both will be able to rest easier,” Glorfindel said and waited for Erestor’s reply, hoping he wouldn’t pull out of his arms.
Sighing, Erestor snuggled up closer to Glorfindel and said, “Hannon le, mellon nín (thank you my friend), I am glad you are here to keep me warm.”
Glorfindel let Erestor’s scent fill him and he reveled in the ability to hold him, even if it was just this one night. How he longed to taste his lips, to run his hands over his beautiful body. Soon he felt Erestor fall asleep and Glorfindel pulled him closer against him and whispered, “Gerich veleth nín (I love you),” then followed Erestor into sleep.
