Prologue

The elf reached the end of the last turn and finally stood in the open again on the other side of the mountain pass. The sight made the Quendi’s heart convulse in wonder. Sealed within a circle of high mountains the image of a magnificent valley greeted him with green pastures and dense forest. In the center of the land stood a steeply hill as if it were the ruler of the place. The elf could tell that a lake used to surround the hill, but it ran dry some time ago, leaving the proud mound accessible by foot. The Sun bathed the high peaks above with golden glitter, giving the scene a magical aura.
The raven haired firstborn silently gave praise to the Vala for this gift as his eyes beheld the sight of the enchanted valley in awe and sense of homecoming.
This was it! The home and refuge to his people that he sought for so desperately.
Turgon took a deep breath and get down on his knees.

~ I do not know how to thank you for your help and kindness toward my kin, oh Great Ulmo. I’m not worthy of such gift, but for the sake of my people I humbly offer my gratitude to you, Great Vala and I gave my solemn oath that I will build a city for my people so they can be protected and prosper. I will defend this valley and its dwellers until my last breath.~ vowed the prince silently.

A sudden breeze caught the elf’s ebony mane and the Lord of the Sea appeared behind the kneeling Quendi.

‘Do not kneel, son of Fingolfin! I promised to your father to aid you if I can. Go now, Turgon and claim the land!’ said Ulmo.

The ruler of the realm of Nevrast bowed to the Vala and rose from the ground and his green eyes traveled across the landscape beneath his feet.
The king started his descent into the valley for the first time with a song on his lips and a hope in his heart. With each step the raven haired elf lord felt his spirit soar at the beauty of his surroundings. Turgon sang his joy to the mountains and their hidden jewel.
At last he found a home for his people.
