Lindir watched as the Twins passed in the garden under the balcony on which he was hiding. He knew that hiding from them was ridiculous but he could not help it. In fact, it was not of them he was scared of; it was of what they could do. Everybody knew in Imladris that the twin sons of Lord Elrond could speak to each other in their minds. Although there never was any proof that they could read other people's thoughts as well, Lindir could not take any chances. It was a very strange paradox the minstrel was in: he needed the twins to help him, but he was scared to death they found out why. He sighted.

If only he could think of somebody else to help him. However, the kind of service he wanted could not be asked of just anybody; it was far too personal. Elladan, Elrohir and him had been friends for centuries now and he knew he could ask anything of them. However, what he wanted to ask was perhaps the only thing that could threaten that wonderful friendship he shared with them. Oh, what to do, what to do?

He could forget about his idea. That was easier said than done. It was something that has been nagging him for quite a long time now. He had turned the question in his head over and over again. And it was still going nowhere. Now, he knew he had to choose between to options: ask or forget. For he could not live any longer in the state he was in. after several more minutes of deep reflection (quite unnecessary really because it was all he had been thinking about for the last six months) he finally made his decision. The final one, the one he would not change in five minutes. He would ask. Tonight. Now he had all day to gather the courage.

*******
(Later that night)

Elladan and Elrohir were putting the final addition on their packages. They were set to leave in three days for Lothlorien where their mother and sister had been staying for the last decade. Now it was time to come home and the twins jumped at the chance to travel. Not mentioning the chance to spend time with their grandfather, the Lord Celeborn, who was so intelligent and wise. The Lord of the Golden Woods had seen many things during his long life and the twins never missed an opportunity to learn from his experience.

They were all set when someone knocked on their door.

-Who can this be at this hour? Asked Elrohir.

-Only one way to find out.

Elladan opened the door and had barely enough time to catch Lindir before he fell to the floor.

-’Dan! He said. How good it is to see you!

Elrohir asked his brother:

-* Is he drunk?*

Elladan wriggled his nose.

-* From the smell, I would say yes.*

-’Roh, you are here too!

-Where else could I be? Are you all right Lindir?

The minstrel freed himself from Elladan’s hold and walked through the room, sidestepping every pace.

-Pfrr...I’m finnnnnne! Never been better.

-If you say so, said Elladan. What can we do for you?

-Funny you should ask! Because I came all the way down here to ask you something.

Actually, Lindir’s room was about two corridors away. The intoxicated blond allowed himself to fall on the twins’ bed. He made a circling gesture with his hand.

-How come your bed can spin?

-The bed does not spin, Lindir; explain Elrohir. So?

Lindir looked confused.

-So what?

-What can we do for you?

-Oh, that! It’s silly really. I’ve wanted to ask...but don’t be mad at me, ‘Roh. Promise you won’t be mad. Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease!

-I will not --we will not be mad at you. Now, what is it? What did you do?

-I did nothing! That’s why I’m here; I want to do it!

-What?? Asked Elladan, loosing his patience.

-I want to have sex with you two. Now, I’ve said it.

The twins looked at each other, completely shocked. They did not expect that from their friend. Lindir had not given any indication that he was interested in them that way and, as far as they knew:

-Lindir, you only sleep with females! Said Elladan.

-Yes, well, I’m curious all right? I want to know what it’s like to sleep with males so I thought I’d ask you! I know you are soul mates, but you do sometimes take other bed partners -and together! I’ve seen it! You had sex with that prissy little Prince of Mirkwood! Little mister perfect! He’s not even handsome!

Elladan asked Elrohir:

-*Is he for real?*

-*Oh yes, dear brother, he probably got drunk so he could ask us. That way, if we refuse, he will say that it was the alcohol speaking. Nevertheless, I believe him to be quite serious about this*.

Lindir was looking at them when he suddenly shouted:

-DON’T SPEAK IN YOUR MIND! I KNOW YOU ARE SPEAKING TO EACH OTHER!

-Calm down, Lindir. Elladan was just wondering if this was serious.

-Of course it’s serious. It’s a matter-of-death serious!

-A matter of death? Asked Elladan.

-Well, yes! You’re leaving soon and who knows what can happen on that trip! You could, you could, a bear, who knows, could... eat you! and I’d be left not knowing what it’s like to...you know, do what you do to each other.

-Lindir, you’re drunk. The only thing we are going to do with you tonight is to accompany you back to your room. As for your request, we will talk about it tomorrow.

Having said that, Elladan move to pick up the drunken minstrel. Lindir let him do without saying anything.

-I’ll go and prepare his bed, said Elrohir.

Elladan had to put his arm around Lindir's waist. He had to almost completely support him in order to walk him to his room. In fact, he was practically dragging him. However, Lindir did not oppose any resistance. He kept quiet for a few moments but suddenly said:

-Please,’ Dan. Touch me, just touch me.

-I am touching you, Lindir.

The blond elf looked at the arm of his friend, all wrapped around him.

-That's right, you are! I'm so happy!

And he gave Elladan a big wet kiss on the cheek. Elrond's son had to fight the urge to wipe his face.

-Good. Now be nice; we're almost there.

When they entered the room, they saw that Elrohir had pull the sheets and tossed the pillows. Lindir let them removed his tunic and his boots. The twins silently agreed that it was best for him to keep his breeches. They put him in his bed and pulled the sheets on him. They were about to leave when Lindir said:

-Will you not at least stay with me until I fall asleep?

Elrohir answered:

-All right. But we are not taking our clothes off.

Lindir mumbled something but got quiet when they laid in the bed with him, Elrohir to his right and Elladan to his left. He then quickly fell into reverie.
