Guns. Shots. Screams.

“Kill him! Just shoot him, you son of a bitch!”

Dominic’s eyes flew open, head aching incredulously and sweat pouring off him. He tried to slow down his breathing. The last night had been terrible. He almost hadn’t been able to sleep. Every time he had closed his eyes this image had appeared in his dreams again. The same dream for almost eight years now. He rubbed over his tired eyes with his left hand and turned onto his right side to face Billy. But he wasn’t there. The sheets had been shoved to the side, his clothes were gone. Dominic was awake at once and sat up. He forgot about his hurting head, came to his feet and walked around in the little flat. Entering the kitchen he saw a half-emptied cup of coffee and a piece of toast with jam. Billy must have been in a hurry.

Dominic then went to the bathroom; he still had that dream in the back of his mind. He undressed and stepped under the shower, letting the water run in streams over his body. He had to stop thinking about those dreams and visions that kept disturbing his life. Damn it, why had he forgotten to take his pills again? He sighed, frustrated. But it didn’t matter anymore, if he took them or not. Lately they would show up all the same. Sometimes it seemed that someone, something wanted him to have those dreams.

Billy. Billy was Dom’s force to go on. Though he had never ever mentioned a word to Billy about his dreadful nights he felt Billy’s support and caring. Dominic had been alone all those years. It was good to have someone around again. Someone to whom he was important. Strangely enough his dreams had intensified since Billy had stepped into his life.

Dom heard someone enter the flat.

“’m home!”

“Taking a shower!” Dom shouted back and switched off the water. He dried himself with a towel, dressed in jeans and a shirt and stepped outside. There he saw Billy sitting on the bed and finishing his already cold coffee and toast.

“Where were you? I woke up and you weren’t…”

“Making a phone call.” Billy interrupted Dom.

“Oh. Why didn’t you use my phone?”

“Couldn’t. Didn’t work.”

Dom went to pick up the phone receiver.

“There’s no reason to disbelieve me.” Billy complained quietly. Dom dropped the receiver immediately.

Billy had finished his late breakfast by now and stood up. Dom didn’t follow Billy but sat down on an armchair in the living room.

“Ye look confused! Somethin’ happened?” Billy’s voice came from the kitchen.

“Don’t know if you can call it like that.” Dom paused. “I had a dream.”

“Yeah? What was it about?”

“A man shooting another one.”

Something shattered to the floor. Dom jumped.

“Billy? Everything alright?” Dom wanted to look after him but Billy was already standing in the door way.

“It was… Ah mean, it was just a dream, righ’?”

“Yeah. Just a dream.” Dom closed his eyes for a moment. “It seemed so real though.”

Billy went over to Dom, sat down on the armrest and lay his arms around Dom’s head, pressing it gently to his chest. They stayed like this for a while, silent, motionless.

“Do yeh remember anything else?”

“No. Only those blurry and fast pictures of a man, with a gun.”

“That is all?” asked Billy on.

“Yes. That is all.” Dom lied.
