Ayagoon
Ch1
The rain was fierce, falling in stinging sheets over Aragorns body.
Relentless in his pace, he trudged forward mumbling as he shivered,
then
very faintly, he smelled it..."a fire" he spoke to himself as he
pivoted around, looking for a hint of a glow in the darkness "Arghh,
there it is again"
The young ranger sniffed the air, looked northeast, strained his eyes,
and then saw a faint flicker through the watery darkness. As he headed
to
the flickering light in the distance, he mulled over in his mind to be
cautious, this area was used by all manner of creatures and he should
remain on his guard.
Drawing closer, he realized that the faint light was emanating from a
small cave, he stood beside the entrance and sniffed again to get an
idea of what might me cooking, knowing that if the smell turned his
stomach, it could be orcs...if it was halfway pleasant, it could be men
or dwarves...but as he took the deep breath through his nose, his mind
was
flooded with memories of evening meal in Rivendel.
Encouraged, Aragorn stood tall, grasped the handle of his sheathed
sword and yelled forth "Hail there! In the cave!"
Aragorn listened for a response, but there was none. As the rain
continued to fall, the ranger sighed heavily and grumbled 'Argh...I can
not take this any longer, I will be sick for weeks...' then slowly
stood
before the entrance and yelled "I am coming in! I am a friend!"
As he slowly entered, he was just over the threshold of the cave when
he
heard "Daro adan!" and stopped abruptly.
Aragorn slowly lifted his head and looked at the young elf on the other
side of the fire who had his bow drawn and aimed right at him. The
ranger swallowed hard when he noticed that the bow was of Mirkwood
design and slowly lifted and put his hand to his heart as he inclined
his
head "Mae Govannen" then returned his hands to his sides with his palms
open and facing the elf, and gestured to the fire "May I share your
fire master wood elf...I am soaked past the bone".
The elf narrowed his eyes and tilted his head "Weapons!" then motioned
to the far wall with his drawn bow.
Aragorn inwardly sighed 'Valar...of all the elven races to run into and
attempt to receive aid from...a wood elf...and Mirkwood one at
that...what in Arda is he doing in this area...' The ranger ever so
slowly walked to the wall, removed his cloak and let it fall with a
squishy thud to the ground, removed his bow, arrows, sword, and
dagger...placeing them against the wall, then returned to the fire and
resumed his passive stance.
The elf cautiously loosened the tension on his bow and gestured for him
to sit. Aragorn bowed his head again "Hannon le" then sat close to the
fire, reached up to his hair, and wrung out whatever water he could,
causing a small puddle to farm next to him, then rested his eyes on the
fire as he tried to get warm.
After a few moments, a blanket suddenly landed on his head, covering
him completely. As he wriggled his way from underneath it, he noticed
that the elf was now standing right next to him and looked up as he
whispered again "Hannon le"
The young warrior leaned down a little and pointed to his chest
"Legolas"
Aragorn smiled and nodded as he repeated the name, and the warrior then
pointed to him and gave a small smile "Wet man"
To his surprise, the elf walked to the entrance of the cave and Aragorn
shook his head and let out a light laugh as he took advantage of the
elf's obvious offer of privacy, striped himself of his soggy clothes,
laid them out to dry and wrapped himself in his newly acquired blanket
"Legolas?"
As he returned to the other side of the fire, the elf tilted his head
"Nai wet man?"
Aragorn couldn't help but laugh and pointed to himself "Aragorn"
Legolas retook his seat before the fire and tilted his head "Nai...wet
man" and began to prepare more food. After some time, the young warrior
handed Aragorn a bowl of perfectly grilled vegetables, nuts, a wedge of
apple and corner of lenbas "Eat wet man"
The ranger smiled and nodded "Hannon le Legolas"
The elf nodded back "Come" and motioned to the bowl.
Aragorn tilted his head as he furrowed his brow "Come?" The young
warrior then blinked, and shrugged, finally placing his hand to his
heart and inclining his head.
The ranger snorted "Ahh, I understand, you mean your welcome"
Legolas lifted his gaze and looked into the bowl and offered his new
cave companion more food "Eat Aygon"
The ranger took the food, then pointed to his chest again
"Ar...a...gorn"
The young warrior squinted his eyes "Ay...a...goon" then shook his head
and waved his hand "Eh...wet man"
Aragorn shook his head and laughed. As they both finished their food,
they sat in silence, enjoying the fire, until Legolas noticed that the
young mans head was drooping some and his eyes were half mast with
fatigue. The young warrior crawled around the fire and placed his hand
on his cave companions shoulder and smiled "Ayagoon bed me"
Aragorn shot him a wide eyed look "Wh...what?"
Legolas again smiled, and then shoved the ranger down, re-wrapped the
blanket around his naked body and tucked it snugly around him, patted
him on the hip, and whispered "Bed me" then returned to his side of the
fire.
Aragorn blinked as he deduced that his new friend meant 'Go to bed' and
as he drifted off to sleep, he wondered 'Who in Arda is teaching this
poor wood elf to speak westron'
The next morning, Aragorn woke, still naked and wrapped in the blanket.
As he looked around, he softly called out "Legolas?"
Nothing.
Standing, he moved to the entrance of the cave and yelled forth
"Legolas?"
Met with more silence, he sighed and returned to the fire and mumbled
"Gone..." then looked over to his weapons and smiled when he noticed
that his sword, arrow tips and dagger had been sharpened, and there was
a
bowl of food left for him and thought 'Hmmm...that was thoughtful of
him'
As he dressed and made to leave the cave, he looked back into the
darkness, then shook his head and resumed his trek. After walking for
a few, he let out an amused laugh and mumbled to himself "Shame, I
could see us becoming friends...at least I would teach him better
westron"
