Picture Perfect
Okay, so it's set when Legolas is travelling towards Grey Haven but he's with Elrond and they see an Island so thought, what the hell? We'll land for a bit, and thats were they find Starlet.
The bush was alive around Starlet Andrews as she stalked her opponent. The thick leaf loam and fallen twigs made no sound as she moved across it in her combat boots and whatever noise was made was drowned out my the monotonous sound of the cicadas.
Thin tendrils of plants clung to her and the thorns of nasty bushes clutched angrily at her camouflaged fatigues. Sweat was cascading from her sun burnt brow, stinging her eyes and blurring her vision.
Her slight five-foot frame pushed silently through the head-high bracken. The sun battered down onto her exposed neck while a swarm of bloated flies hovered menacingly around her head. Starlet noticed none of this, as she was engrossed in getting a clear shot at her target.
She swore softly to herself, thinking that she had been outsmarted. Then all of a sudden (imitation of a friend there, sorry) the little bugger was there, not twenty feet in front of her!
Slowly bring her weapon to bear, she adjusted the lenses until a clear image swam into focus. Starlet was about to squeeze off a shot when there was a god-almighty crash out in the Lantana just to her left.
The extremely rare White Throated Honey-Eater, startled from its perch in a bottlebrush by the crash, fluttered into the cloudless sky.
With rage building inside of her, Starlet flung her camera in utter frustration, she noted that she had taken the photo just as the beautiful bird had taken off, but it was no consolation.
She had been following that bird for the best of a day, taking a two-hour boat ride out to the island. Then three hours under the scorching sun being dive-bombed by every biting insect imaginable, she was about ready to strangle any person, plant or thing she came across.
She tromped off, not caring about the noise she made as she walked towards the dock, where her boat was meant to be waiting, which she also highly doubted, and just go back home.
Who knew, maybe the captain of the ship would give up a few crewmembers for a sound thrashing, besides, it was all in the act of helping her. That was what they were being paid for, wasn’t it??
She sighed again and pushed through some more Lantana and stepping out onto the beach, shading her eyes, the sunlight on the sand too much for her.
Out in the distance she could see a boat, and it was moving towards her. Good, right on time, and it even gave her enough leisure space to take a quick dip in the water.
Stripping off quickly, she waded out and dived in when the depth allowed her. The water washed over her and she was glad this was an island and not the middle of the desert, like the rest of Australia was.
She sighed again, this time not in exasperation, but in pleasure. Wiggling her toes in the sand; she walked back out again.
“Ahem…” Some one said. Starlet squealed and spun around, her foot slipping in the sand so much so that she fell over.
A deep chuckle came from the Lantana and she looked up, hoping against hell that she wasn’t too exposed (actually, she was hoping she was very exposed because then she would have a very good reason to deck who ever it was).
“Ahem yourself…” she replied and stood up, she dusted the wet sand off her body, twisting this way and that, hoping that whoever it was, was getting very uncomfortable by the minute.
She heard a choking noise as she elegantly bent over and dusted off her feet. Well, the chuckler was definitely getting off on this.
Starlet was used to flaunting her body, having worked at a strip club once, so this was nothing new to her. She picked up her clothing and pulled them on (slowly) before looking up at the Lantana again with narrowed eyes. She couldn’t see him, yet, but he was there.
“Come out come out wherever you are.” She said, making it sound menacing and saucy at the same time.
There was another rustle in the trees off to her left and a man jumped off a branch to land rather noisily on the ground.
“Ah... hello.” Oh how cute, he was nervous (or very encumbered, which would explain the noisy landing). Starlet chuckled at him and he flushed.
“What are you doing here and besides that, how did you get here?” Starlet wanted to know desperately, seeing as she might not have a way to get off the damned place herself. She looked at the ship, which had already disappeared and thought of spending a night on the island, and shuddered.
She looked at her spying fiend, noticing he hadn’t answered her yet, and found... two more of him.
“Huh?” She said, sitting down again, belatedly she noticed him looking at her rather concernedly before she passed out in dehydration.
Little short compared to my others, but, eh, review???
