"Looking for something, Estel?" asked Elladan from the doorway of the Imladris
library. He relaxed back against the frame, crossing his arms and raising an eyebrow.

"Argh! Elladan" , Estel scowled down at his foster brother from the top of a ladder.
"You nearly made me fall!"

"I apologise" Elladan smirked, sounding not in the least remorseful, "but I must
confess to being somewhat curious as to what you are doing in the library in the
middle of the night"

"Well, I couldn't sleep because I saw something today and I just needed to find some
information abo-" he stopped abruptly, eyes widening as red suffused his face. "B-but
it c-can wait until t-tomorrow" Estel quickly stammered out as he climbed down the
ladder.

Well now, thought Elladan, that's interesting. He pushed away from the doorframe
and straightened, effectively blocking the entrance.
"Perhaps I can help you, Estel, tell me what is it you saw?"

"Nothing, Elladan, it's not important. Please let me pass, I am tired"

"Now don't be silly, Estel, if you go to bed without answers, the questions will just
continue to plague you through the night and you will not be able to sleep. So, tell
me, little brother" Elladan inquired, moving to stand directly in front of the young
man so close they were all but touching "What. Did. You. See?"

"N-n-nothing, really, please Ell" insisted Estel, refusing to meet the twin's eyes.

Realising that this intimidation tactic was not working, Elladan quickly changed his
strategy, his curiosity far too peaked to simply let this go.

"I see" he began, taking a step back "well, Estel, I can see it clearly is something but
obviously you do not wish to discuss this with me. I understand, but I must say, I am
hurt and deeply disappointed -- even distressed! I mean, have I not always been here
to answer your questions in the past? Have I not always given my little brother
whatever information he asked of me? Have Elrohir and I not been your teachers in
all matters not covered by Erestor or Glorfindel or Ada? But if you feel that now you
cannot come to me because I cannot be trusted to give good information or perhaps
you feel I lack the intelligence to answer your questions, well that is of course your
opinion and you are entitled to it" and so saying Elladan gave Estel a truly pained
look, his grey eyes soulful, a single tear of feigned hurt rolling down his cheek, full
lips pouting, then turned and slowly began to walk out of the library.

As soon as his back was turned a tiny smirk played about his face and he thought -- 3,
2, 1 --

"Elladan, wait!!" Estel quickly ran in front of his brother whose face once again
adopted a pained visage "Please don't be upset" he pleaded, devastated that he may
have hurt the older brother he adored. "It's not that I don't think you can help me, it's
just I-- you --" he sighed "It's just...you will be upset when you find out what I saw
and I love you and I don't want you to hate me or be angry and I just--" his voice
broke on a sob.

"Estel, stop!" Elladan interrupted. "You are babbling. Just tell me what you saw. I
promise, little brother, nothing you say would make me hate you. I love you", he
assured him, taking the trembling young man into his arms. Estel immediately
returned the embrace, holding Elladan close and snuggling his head beneath the half-
elf's chin. He sighed.

"You say that now because you don't know what I saw, but--"

"Oh, for Elbereth's sake, Estel. Just tell me!!!"

"Ok, I saw..."
