Ah, sweet Gimli. I wonder how much of his improvised tirade in aid of Strider's endeavor comes from the heart, even if he is unaware of it? He's also just that bit petulant when Gandalf doesn't tell all concerning Sméagol. But the best is the way he adores Galadriel. Really, she is worthy of it, and I believe she is a friend to Gimli, but I do wonder what Legolas will think of his dwarf hunting with the Lady of Lórien? The atmosphere grows darker, and you convey that perfectly. I love the lyricism of your writing, and I can almost hear the songs of the elves as I read, not to mention the deep drums of the dwarves. Just glorious!

You know how much I love this story of yours, and your version of Legolas and Gimli. But this review is particularly for chapter seventeen. When I got to read that, by the time I was halfway through, you'd pressed so many of my buttons I felt like I was a checkout till. And you just kept right on doing it. Ahh... you really got me with this. Just in case you were still in any doubt whatsoever, lol. But it wasn't just the theme, the darkness, or the many different kinks you exploited. It's also the indulgent use of language and word choice – so beautiful it was like a feast. Is it prose or poetry? I am going to list and analyse some of these, because it's just gorgeous! Time stretched, an instant turning infinite... The contrast of 'instant' and 'infinite' placed close together in this sentence is so appealing. ...pear juice melting on the elf’s lips... Maybe it's because I love pears so much, but as I read this I could taste it on my tongue. 'Dissolving' is a word that exists here, as Gimli's will is dissolving, though you didn't use it. Clever, clever! “But you will ask.” Oh, my brain turned to mush here. Oils and unguents and lips and hands. The rhythm of this is so wonderful I want to read it out loud every time I come to it. Amusement, crystalline and sharp. paired with ...eyes of sapphire crystal. This combines to create an image and a feeling I don't think I could ever forget. Hard, cold, unyielding. *applauds* “I will do it in a year—or two, or five, or ten... Oh, you know why this got me. I'm not going to repeat it here. ...a voice like honey... Mmm... more sweetness hidden deep in something so cruel. So clever again! ... the elf whispered to him, unknown words in Elvish, his languid voice hot... Oh, I hear it! The musician in me thanks you. And yet, this story is so powerful that I've come to prefer the actual Legolas and Gimli, as opposed to these dark, nightmarish glimpses. And I really like nightmares! If I had you at my mercy I'm sure I'd make you write more of this chapter seventeen stuff, but I'd also want to see the rest of this exactly as you have planned it. I'm so glad I found you, and I'm so glad you posted here too. The more people get to read this work, the better. Thank you :)

Ah, poor Gimli! His loyalty and his honor aren't winning him what he hopes for, are they? But at least he's found someone in Strider who will talk freely with him, and who treats Gimli with respect, much like the Lady Galadriel. It's the smallest things that matter the most, and Gimli's reaction to Legolas changing his braids is one of those details that make this story unfogettable. I can't help but wonder if Legolas even notices Gimli's discomfort, or if it will matter given the chance for Legolas to enjoy the company of a like-minded elf. I'll await the next chapter eagerly!

Another strong chapter, and it outlines so well the growing understanding Legolas has of Gimli, despite his not managing to convey that to Gimli at all. I think Legolas' kindness is going to be much misinterpreted as well among the elves of Lothlorien. I honestly can't wait to see how this unfolds, and I'm so glad you're posting this gem for us to enjoy! You have captured me with this marvelous story, and the beauty of your writing.

Chapter 2: Your young Gimli is awesome and courageous, and I feel sure that Legolas will definitely be ashamed of calling him 'goblin' at some point in the future.

Chapter 3: Your descriptions of the cave are just beautiful! But, even better, Gimli's reaction to everything. This made me giggle: Gimli judged it had been designed by a nesting crow. Also, loving how it takes six elves to get him on his knees. Go Gimli!

Chapter 4: Here, I love how curious Legolas is, even if he is trying to hide it. He keep noticing how strong Gimli is *insert dirty laugh*... and also - the piercings! I want a closer look! :)

Chapter 5: He must win the dwarf’s respect and convince it to behave in such a manner that it-- he-- would not die. If you offer respect, dear Legolas, I'm sure you'll get it returned to you. :)

Chapter 1: Oh, Gimli, you brave young thing! You show the characters so well here. Thorin's madness, Thranduil's cruelty and Gloin's pain at what Gimli has done. I'm so glad to see this here. And I adore this AU!
