I majored in English Lit in college, so when I saw fan fiction that would involve Star Trek characters and LOTR, I admit freely, I came for a laugh. I was surprised though, by how well the story worked, as far as it went. Don't get me wrong, there were a few problems that an anal retentive nitpicker such as myself couldn't help noticing. For example, the fact That Elrond is married to a woman who has already passed over the sea after being tortured by Orcs and receiving a poisoned wound. In the books, Elrond plans to meet Celebr`ian at the end of Return of the King when the elves leave Middle Earth. The other major nitpick I had was that Tolkien said time and again that Middle Earth is just that; Earth, just a time before recorded history. However, despite my annoying need to nitpick, I thought that the characters were an excellent personality reflection of the one's created by Roddenberry and Tolkien. I also found that despite the things I noticed, I was still able to buy the story, so to speak, and accept the premise. The only other complaint I had may not be one; but the ending was very abrupt, and felt unnatural. There were too many unanswered questions. But if you're planning on continuing the story, then it makes sense. I would be interested in seeing where you take it. It's an interesting premise, and it merits more time. Good for you. Anytime you can surprise a reader and make them look at something in a new way you've done well.

I first heard of this story on cracked.com, and honestly, I have to say, it intrigued me. Original premise, original pairing and. . . AND so full of awesome and win as to contain the raw manly power of both Elrond and Jean-Luc Picard.

I truly admire the attention you've given to detail concerning plot and cultures of the main characters in this story. Not to be too blunt about it, but it would be an unimaginable challenge for me to write about two such class acts in such an arena. Truth be told, it's been forever (or so it feels) since I've written at all and so I stand even more in awe of this work. Keep up the great work, it's a pleasure to read!

*Fangirl squeals ensue.* All right, enough silliness, back to my life.

Thank you again!!

I just noticed this new article regarding this story:
http://www.cracked.com/article_16554_5-most-baffling-sex-scenes-in-history-fanfiction.html

I guess any publicity is good publicity right?

Um. Just letting you know anyway in case you did not already and there's a sudden torrent of new hits/trollish reviews or something.

Finally got the chance to finish this, and really glad you told me about this, Trek! The characterisation is spot on, the tension between the pair of them really tangible, and the writing was just, overall, superb. Thanks so much for this!

Woot, first kiss! I love the way they talk to each other and how it isn't moving too fast. :)

I can SO see Picard being that fascinated by the history of Middle-Earth, it's just very like him!

Great update. ^_^

Hi,

I'm really enjoying this - more than I thought I would, if I'm honest! It takes a lot of skill to pull off a convincing crossover and you've managed really well! I'm really like the interactions between Elrond and Picard.

Looking forward to more!
