Hmm, lots of angst over the immortality issue, very hard to resolve. Poor Legolas, knowing he is going to fade regardless of if she marries him or not, so sad. Glad they resolved the issue for the time being though. Nice lovemaking and very special that Legolas had never joined that intimately before with anyone, that is reserved for marriage and that is what sealed their bond.
Smiled at her dress with the crystals, she is indeed different to the elves. Then to realise she has to go back to her own life and cannot stay with Legolas in Lim Aear all the time. Reminds us she is indeed a modern woman with her own life and friends and family. However are they going to work this relationship? Intriguing stuff. I feel so sorry for them.

Jealousy is indeed a terrible emotion, but one I can identify with. Made worse here of course with the culture clash, but my sympathies are definitely with Legolas. For an elven warrior I can understand how seeing her dancing so intimately with someone, would inflame him enough to strike her or even kill.

"Belwen could not find fault in Elaine. But neither did she in Legolas. Both were right and both were wrong at the same time. It was not their fault they were so different; that their worlds were so different. She understood Legolas’ jealousy; and she had expected it with dread. Never having loved so fiercely before, Legolas would be a force to reckon with if jealous. She had not known what he was capable of doing, but his reaction had come as no surprise to her: she had expected him to not be able to control his feelings. But at the same time, she believed he should have acted a little wiser; he was an elf after all, patience and control were innate virtues. But could one really tell with love? It was a force and law on its own and nothing could be ‘expected’ when it was involved.
Elaine, on the other hand, was not to blame either. She had done just what she had said: dance. But such an innocent act for someone of her age in the upper world could seem a sin in the eyes of the more conservative elves. True, they were not totally alienated and had tried to adjust to the new circumstances, but still, they lived in a cavern system away from the people of the upper world; and they had values that could not be forgotten overnight. Elaine should have known that, as the wife of an elven Prince and Princess of Lim Aear, she should act a little more reserved. But, maybe they expected too much from a young woman? Maybe they had pushed her too far and expected her to change what she was in a few days? She was only a girl in the prime of her youth; Legolas was an elven Prince who had never tasted love before and was lost in the strength of his feelings. Could either be blamed?"
Very good explanation of their culture clash, so difficult for either of them to embrace the ways of the other, and their relationship is so new that they have no time to learn all the differences between them and find a way to live with them. Having lived through something similar myself a couple of times, deep down I feel Legolas is right. Fidelity is the most important thing and even dancing, even thoughts can traverse that line. So difficult for both of them! Wondering whatever is going happen between them. I have a feeling it might not be good.

Very dramatic, that she dies for him, great death scene! Wonderful twist at the end too, being back in her own world and the operation and the time shift and her confusion and still having the book which tells us that it was true and not just her sedated mind playing tricks as she thought. Great that Legolas comes into her world to be with her. oh if only! Really enjoyed this story with the culture clash and immortality/mortality stuff.

I like how you set your scenes, could almost smell the salt of the sea down on that beach. First with Elaine as a child with the wizard introducing the idea of elves to her and then when she is grown up in the same place. Lovely how you contrast the magic of the elves and their secret abode with the prosaic everyday reality of Elaine's modern world and wonderful that Legolas was there to save her from rape. What a hero. Sigh. Off to read some more now.

Lovely decision of Legolas to let her go even though it was against the rules of their realm. Great insight into Elaine's inner thoughts and feelings through her diary. How true that we all wish for a great love and know it is everything even when experience tells us otherwise. It is hard to trust again when we have been damaged. You write the psychological stuff very well.

I very much like your descriptions of Lim Aear, especially Legolas's room and his bed. Liked how he is so proud of his weapons, how he explained elven realms to El and how you have written his personality and got across the sense of his long life. I am fascinated by the dynamic of immortality/mortality and you have captured this well with your Legolas, contrasting this with Elaine and her short modern life, their characters are so different and yet it feels entirely natural, because of this, that they should be so drawn to each other. I like how you are teasing us with snippets of Elaines thoughts, hinting at some tragedy in her life which will no doubt be revealed in due course. Also love seeing Legolas aroused, almost unable to contain himself then curbing it and vowing to court her. Sigh...
You are good too at cliffhangers at the end of chapters. If I had read this story as it was posted instead of now its finished I would have been driven mad!
