Malthen is certainly not worth dying for. The creep. He isn't even worth Legolas getting upset over. Of course it isn't Malthen he is upset over it is his own feelings and actions that plague him now.
I like the thought that Thranduil is ~nearly~ convinced that Legolas is really his son. What a mess he has made of everything. His maybe son being the big loser so far. Another creep. I have absolutely no pity for him.
Lots of arguing over Legolas going on. It is only going to get worse when everthing hits the fan. It would be so much easier for the king to just forbid any help for Legolas. Letting Legolas die would solve most of his problems. Well not Dol Goldur but everything else. He could have his little second family and forget Ninglorien and his first son. Unfortunately there are too many witnesses so he can't take the easy way out.
Good old ada Thranduil, he is worried about how healing Legolas will affect his realm. Fearfaron worried for Legolas' physical and metal/emotional health.
I love the line where Aragorn earns Mithrandir's wrath and the Istar's wrathful look couoil oil tree sap.
The Maia connection and their enthrallment with the FirstBorn was a very good interjection to the story. Everyone should be so enchanted. The beauty and fierceness of the elves make them desirable. Add Legolas' sincerety and his link with nature and heveryvery worthy of enchanting a whole audience of people today.
Aragorn pondering about who could not feel for the suffering that Legolas had to go through and is still going through. Obviously Thranduil isn't, doesn't and probably won't.
They use coal! Nasty stuff. No wonder they are always in such foul moods.
Gwileth needs to be taken in hand a little. She must be very spoiled being the princess. So Legolas has a half sister and big shock a half brother, who can ascend thronhrone in his stead. This should change the power struggle now. Especially now that Thranduil realizes how silvan law is in his favor. In a way I think that would be a good thing for Legolas. It would take the pressure off him. Especially from those who want him dead. Thranduil can just chose this son and Legolas can go live in the forest and be happy.
I really love Fearfaron. He is so good to Legolas and wants what is best for him. Not from any ulterior motive just because he sees the good in the ex prince.
We are certainly getting to the good stuff now. Things are geting murkier and closer to a kick *ss ending. Thank you for the update. giggle

When I saw the chapter title I started singing the song "Reunited and it feels so good." I even remembered most of the words. Unfortunately Legolas can't say the same about being reunited. Only Fearfaron will be welcome to the Tawarwaith.
My Legolas is in bad shape. Lots of blood loss with pale gums. If he weren't an elf he would be long gone. Fearfaron is so good with the ex-prince. He really needs a surrogate father and I am so glad you gave him one. He will be the best medicine that Legolas could have.
I liked the image of a messed up Ranger being door warden. He did a better job than Hama (I think that is the name of Theoden's Door Warden). And Lindcalon got to heots ots of amazing stories of Legolas and orcs. He is going to have even more respect for Legolas due to those tales.
Coming out of a coma to pain, not the bet way to wake up. It was cute when he thought it was dark and it was just his eyes were closed. Go back to sleep, you need it. Foster Father knows best.
And he is in the guest sui Wel Well that is a step up from his usual lodgings. Makes him very uncomfortable though. Can't really blame him. He is probably waiting for the other shoe to drop.
Why are patient's so impatient? They should be called impatients instead.
Can never forget Malthen and being betrayed by him. At least all the physical pain took his mind off of the internal pain.
The healer tells him he is a reknowned warrior, the king is conciliatory and offered him the best that could be offered. Legolas isn't buying any of it. Can we blame him? He doesn't know of all the machiavellian twists and turns that have been going on in the stronghold in his absence. Things are looking a lot better for the Tawarwaith now. He has allies among the woodland elves and despite the king's great power Legolas is gaining on him in that department.
His fear for Fearfaron is well founded. The king doesn't need to strike the blow himself. Legolas is beginning to really understandt ist is going on in the stronghold and it isn't all kosher. Can I use a Jewish word for elvish business? I hope so.
After a lot of discussion there is an understanding between Elf, Istari and Man. About time too. If they would have just listened to the elf to begin with a of tof this nonsense wouldn't have happened.
I think food is always a good thing. I saw the phrase five hungry elflings and thought or one famished full grown hobbit.
Legolas and another hissy fit. He gets so emotional and he has such a right to do so. He has suffered so much, none of it because of anything he has ever done. Just because of who he is. No one has ever protected him until now. There are many now who will not allow this to continue.
I was glad he passed out. He needs to be unconcious to heal. Knowing that Malthen is there is not going to make his waking moments comfortable. Keep him asleep until he is needed.
Thanks for a great new chapter. You are moving things right along whether we are present to see them move or not. I liked that Fearfaron was smiling when he saw Legolas. I know he was happy to see his foster son but I hope things went well with the king and his councilors as well.

I have had a hellish weekend. A new chapter is great but it is late and you write such dense, complex work that I hope I can do it justice in this state. So much to digest at once it is almost overwhelming.
When this story is all over I am going to go through each and every line to see how you put this together and how you got there from here. I think it wil a v a very interesting study.
First we start out with the letter to Fearfaron from Legolas. So nice to hear from his "son" the Twarwaith. Not good news. There is little good news in the Woodland Realm any more. The letter was heartbreaking though. Both in what it said and what it didn't. Also in exposing the two Noldo and yet not knowig the whole of their treachery yet.
Thranduil is such a strange character. I love your presentation of him as Fearfaron says Oropher understood the silvan folk but Thranduil is not like his sire. He is caught up in the Sinda not silvan. The woodland elves have a veneer of Sinda at the most but scratch that veneer and they are still silvan and will support TawarWaith. It is just too ingrained in them. Two generations of being under Sinda rule is not going to change them that much.
I so want Elrond's b*utt kicked to high heaven. I can imagine a scenario where Thranduil and Elrond publicly get out of all this trouble by using scapegoats and whisking things under the rug for certain political gains but privately I want them so smacked down. Legolas has just suffered too much at therir hands. All of the things done to Legolas can be laid at their door. Even Ninglorien's actions were fueled by her lover and husbhusband.
That letter was hideous. I hao goo go back and read exactly why he was so outraged again to write such disgusting filth. I know he's being protrayed here as being a back stabbing, machiavellian, power hungry Lord but before that came out I had agreed with his purported reasons for why he was there and what he was actuallu doing in the forest in the first place. Looking for the ring. Things have gotten way to complicated for just that. He no longer has any ons ons for what he is up to.
I really like how Legolas has a champion in Fearfaron. I just love the way you have set Thranduil up. If he had taken any tto lto learn about the silvan elves he could have saved himself some energy and many elves lives and Legolas a world of hurt. Because of his mother's bloodline he is accepted as king. Because of Legolas' bloodline he is accepted as the heir. This is so Egyptian. They also realized that you can't make a mistake with the bloodline of the mother. That is why you said Legolas was a true woodland elf. His mother and grandmother were both woodland elves. It would take a lot to break that and so far Thranduil hasn't been able to do so even though he has tried. Again I hear Ninglorien's laughter from Aman. I love it. Did she know? Is that why she wanted to take Legolas with her? The only thing with that is she leaves the way open for Thranduil to take another and pce ace an heir from her. I am going to check to see if Meril is a woodland elf but I seem to think she is.
The king truly has no concern for anything but self. His reasoning about choosing any one of his sons as heir was interesting. No primogeniter in Middle Earth elves I guess. We take it for granted so this was a nice twist.
I agree with Fearfaron. We need to get everyone in a room with the Council and get his sorted out. With lots of angst, anger, lying, exposure, let 'em rip with the , la, law, custom. That should be a free for all.
Now the human has given Fearfan more ammunition. You know what Shakespeare says about lies. He would have loved this time period and place. He could have done more tragedies than you can shake a stick at.
Elrond and Thranduil have woven more than a web of deceit. They may have woven a noose.
I thought Thranduil's encounter with Talagan was telling. Seeing how falagalagan would go for his king, testing his limits of loyalty to king and/or realm. Chickens may be coming home to roost and Thranduil may need a fall guy to take the heat.
Now it is Thranduil's time to start getting worried. Fearfaron's change of countenance can mean nothing but trouble for him. And he has the human and Lindcalon to contend with as well. It is obvious that his enemies are beginning to gather and that is not good for the king.
Good the guys made it to the stronghold. Get them into the hands of healers who will not let the king kill any of them.
The crowd murmuring Heir of Oropher, TawarWaith. The tide is beginning to turn. Nothing like a heroic, mythic, warrior out there fighting off orcs and spiders and protecting the environment against evil to get the crowd stirred up. The king sheltered in his stronghold may have some cards left to play but things are rapidly getting beyond his control.
Now we just need r*t brd Erd Elrond and spineless Erestor to show up and we have a full house. Then the deadly cat and mouse game can begin.
"I am home father." Fearfaron can now take care of him and get his plans going. What fun we readers are going to have.
Thank you for posting. I am going to bed. giggle
Oh and pleaseuse use typos and inability to spell elves names. They are just to complex to get right at this time of night for me.
