Chapter 5 part 2
I hope I labeled the last chapter correctly.
Orc traps - clever elf indeed. And the orcs are so dim witted they will probably fall for that forever.
Wargs - smarter than orcs. Actually anything sentient is probably smarter than orcI liI liked their population growing in inverse proportion to the amount he killed. It seems that ways sometimes.
Spiders - they almost got him a few times, oh my. No one has mentioned their ability to sense his vibrations and yet spiders do that in real life. Go you. Good he has had greater success with spiders with the use of firing their egg sacs. Killing the next generation works. They even have a special name just for him. He deserves to feel smug about that.
He is going to call on Beorn to carry a message. He feels he has completed a Task and needs to go on to other Tasks. I'm glad he has a feeling of accomplishment. He could have just drifted into depression and let something, orc, warg or spider just take him but he fought. Only twelve years and he has finished a Task. I can see why he doesn't want to leave the comfort of Tawar to go to Beorn considering what happened last time.
Oh good Mithrandir is back. He is alwgoodgood for elves. Legolas is now fey, dangerous and feral in the wizards eyes. Nice image. His personality is more intense. Solitude could certainly have that effect on one. So this is like a sign for Legolas. He has finished one Task and here Mithrandir presents him with another. Much harder and more dangerous but he'll think of something. I liked the wizards surprise when Legolas used the term Tawar. Also when Legolas used him as a messenger to the warriors. Tit for tat here.
Great revealing going on here. It was good. giggle

Chapter 6
I loved the tree. The Sentinel. I was a tree climber. It gives you such a feeling of onmiscience hidden up there looking at the rest of the world going by.
I was wondering here in this chapter how much of the guards actions are because Shadow is gaining a foothold over the elves and how much is just their natural perversion. I realize this is AU but silvan elves were different. Maybe not quite this different but I hope they are being drawn to the Dark Side here and not just being scum. Sorry for mixing two modern myths together. What takes place among the guards just seems to be such a perversion even for the race of men not to mentioni the FirstBorn. The wager, the deliberate listening and the cat calls while this torment goes on is really inexcusable. Meanwhile the mainpervert (TM) admits he has taken a r for for his pleasure so he must just get a real high out of BDSM. Legolas is a lovely creature after all. Anyway mainpervert (TM) must not have had a very strong bond with his mate for all this to take place.
I liked Fearfaron staring to get fed up with all this torture. He realized that this is not for true chastisement but for entertainment of both the mainpervert (TM) and the warriors who participate in the whole show. And it is a show. Took lonoughough for someone to cry foul here. If not for Fearfaron it sounds like Pool of Sorrows would do this everyday. No seemseems to care that he half kills Legolas and offers to castrate him to boot. Their ought to be laws against this. This type of thing has nothing to do with the Tasks of Release.
On the other hand it was nicely written torture/humiliation with a naked elf and smut. That is always a plus Also the warriors were suitably repulsive. We can get a hate going for all the perverts who were taking part in this and feel really sorry for the poor ex prince. Sigh. giggle

Something happened to Chapter 7 so this is
Chapter 8
What humiliation. Now Legolas gets not just an eavesdropping audience but a peeping tom audience as well. Yuck, they want him to eat his own vomit. That is really gross but mainpervert (TM) seems to have his own plans and if they are worse than what the warriors want then Legolas is in real trouble.
I was glad the scales are falling from Legolas' eyes more and more through this chapter. He could see how elves could be twisted into orcs. These elves are definitely on their way.
The Commander is a real git. He should know about crowd mentality. Normal decent people in a group will take part in things that they would never dream of doing on their own. I think use use the Commander has not put a stop to this slowly escalating sadistic torture the warriors have gradually allowed themselves to become hardened to it. When the Commander realizes that his warriors are being seduced into this behaviour he finally acts. Not for Legolas' defense or care. Just the morale of his troops.
Ah now it comes out. MP(TM) just wants vengeance. He doesn't care about the Tasks. He has a lover now what does he want with Legolas? Just a sadists dream situation here. Even though that may not have been the main purpose of the law, the law has been erteerted, twisted into a cover for any activity. No one is paying attention to what is really going on.
I wonder how mp (TM) got that dagger also. Did one of the warriors give it to him for his nasty little game? I'm glad that Legolas got it back, to have it in mp (TM) hands would have been almost blasphemous. He got his feather back too. I am so glad. He has so little that he cares for now. Every little bit hurts.
I liked his intense hatred showing in his eyes. No one helped him at all until Fearfaron took his arm. So he thanked Fearfaron while projection loathing to all e whe who not only didn't help but enjoyed his pain. Go Legolas. Smoldering fury for the warriors and peril for them if he ever catches them in the forest. Wouldn't that be kinslaying though? That is what got him in such trouble in the first place. Let the Valake cke care of them. I believe what goes around comes around.
He no longer has any faith in the justice systespeespecially for an outcast who is banished from the law anyway. I think no matter where we live we might recognize that feeling just a little.
Icky why does he want the whip? I hope he hasn't got into self flagellation now. I love the sociopathic mp (TM) never taking any blame, glibly making ees, es, grief caused his madness. Oh yeah. Sure. No remorse fhat hat he did to Legolas, yet he is allowed to travel to the Grey Havens and resume his name against Legolas' wishes. How do they know he will actually go? Considering he's such a liar he could just go set up shopewheewhere else. They were all to eager to get Legolas' banishment out to other realms. There will be no newsflash here to prevent mp (TM) from just moving on . At least the warriors were punished. MP (TM) really got away with very little punishment.
Byed.yed. Yes he was. How will he tell when a warrior is released. MP's (TM) wife may already have been released but of course he would never have shared that little fact. He really needed his little slave to get his jollies. Maybe the Council doesn't care? Nice thought. For the second time Legolas has to realize that maybe they want him dead so that this little problem is over with a minimum of fuss. Chilling thought.
So finally someone doesn't want to punish him but try to help him do his Tasks. After twelve miserable years someone is kind. That is heartbreaking. I think Legolas is coming to see some truths here and maybe realize that all is not exactly as it seems. giggle

Chapter 9
I thought Legolas' dream was real for a minute. Nice scene of some tranquil life for this poor elf. He got to sleep in a nice bed, have a nice breakfast and gets to go do some easy work. After killing orcs, spiders and orcs, oh my; picking up wood should be a piece of cake.
The little walk through the town was very revealing. Legolas tathe the the chaos on himself. He is the cause. He fell into the worst sin of the Noldor, kinslaying. The Realm lost it's heir because of his misstep. The warriors and mp (TM) all fell to base blood lust and one citizen almost committed rape. All these things had their nexus with Legolas. At least he senses this from those who pass him by. I wonder how much projection is going oh here and how much is actual fact. I do see a pattern forming here. Maybe Legolas will be used to open up a very big can of worms.
He is going to get all morbid about this death thing isn't he? MP (TM) and the warriors would have brutally raped him causing his death. His third brush with death thoughts in two days. Is all his angst catching up with him.
At least he is having a nice moment with Fearfaron. He learns a little about Analdir. We finally get to learn a little about one of the elves who died. He liked and respected Legolas. That is kind of sweet. Finally someone, Fearfaron, is thinking about things in a rational way. Is this law fair, just? Even a moment of cowae fre from an untried warrior could be understood. Only if this were a deliberate allowing of death would it be kinslaying. No one can respond perfectly, not even an elf.
Good Analdir has been released. Now Legolas will know about the other two. He'll know how it is supposed to be like. I liked the shared moment of Legolas' dream/vision of Analdir. One down and two to go. He can do this. Now go tell the Council. giggle

Chapter 10 OOPS I hit the wrong button.
Meril means Rose. Ick. Part of my name is Rose. I really don't want to share even a part of a name with her.
Gandalf's ruminations on the kitchen staff was funny. Elves don't need to sleep anyway so what does it matter if one of them has to get up extra early to fire up the stoves. Silly wizard. Don't tell him I said that. I dropped a bag of beans once. He was wise to let someone else clean it up. I wish I had that option. Blueberry pie. One of my favorites. Well he got his pie but it didn't do him any good. I hate to see it go to waste.
Ah. Happy families. Adultery , greed, bastard children, threats, hurling goblets, more threats and fits of anger. Sounds like some marriages I know today. What a mess. Legolas having to grow up and hear this when his parents let lose on each other must have been horrific. Since they have screaming matches probably everyone in the realm knows by now. How embarassing for the ex prince. No wonder he is kind of a down trodden kind of elf prone to take so much blame on himself. So the king thinks Elrond is Legolas' father. You would think with the elves great abilities they would be able to know. So Thranduil needs a new heir and threatens his mate with divorce and taking a new consort if his Queen leaves. Meril is playing her cards right. With Ninglorien's personality she will cut off her nose to spite her face and cut off her son's head to spite his father. Of course to the king he is already dead. I wouldn't count on it king. I think Legolas is a lot tougher than you count on. After all Oropher was his grandsire and he was no fool and not a weag. g. Perhaps your son takes after him as much as anyone else. And poor Lindcalon. He will be in the big middle of this and get the same treatment from Thranduil when he gets in the way. Ship him off to dangerous duty and hope he gets killed. I think the king wants a nice controlled family and he will kill to get it.
Lindcalon asks "What are these elves?" They are rotten, faithless, manipulating excuses for elves. I am so glad you don't give your evil charaacters any really redeeming qualities. They are so easy to hate. They are so self centered and ego driven they just float along on a sea of denial, lust, greed and me, me, me.
Meril's recollections of Legolas visiting was nice but after that laugh she can't be trusted. She is the new fly in the ointmeor hor him. She's done really good for herself and her son so far and has a chance to really up her ante here. She is smart enough to take it too.
The king is in his couting house counting out his money. You have made him the evil greedy Thranduere.ere. Loving treasures more than anything else usually means that one ends up with only material things, no love, compassion, respect. Just ones greed.
Legolas' wet dreams were kind of scary. That is what dreams are for. We process events and get a handle on them. He kind of over reacts though. Poor Legolas even his mother rejects him in the end. Life just keeps getting worse for him. Well angst is a good thing as long as we get a somewhat happy ending. Of course we can by no means call LOTR a happy ending.
Another nice chapter revealing the mess that is the House of Oropher. giggle

I noticed how many hits you had gotten for your story and then how many reviews. They do not seem commensurate with all the work you have done. I understand the hits. This is truly a complex, well thought out, dense and thoroughly researched tale. As far as the amount of reviews, I can also understand that. The very reasons that make this so enjoyable to read makes it difficult to review. Except for please write more. I decided to go through chapter by chapter and review what I liked the most until I have caught up to where I began reviewing. I have been doing that with a lot of authors whose work I truly enjoy. This will up your count a little and stop the nagging feeling that I have not been properly eciaeciative.'
I will admit I have an ulterior motive. In the last four chapters some things have come up that I missed on the first reading of early chapters that turned out to have some importance. This is to refresh my somewhat unretentive mind. So here goes.
Chapter 1
A very bloody set up here. What battle doesn't degenerate into chaos as soon as it starts? Using no names was a good way to start. We wonder who this affects, whether we should be on the snipers side or case, and who we should be rooting for.
The way it is set up it does seem to be the sniper's "fault" that the goblin king (I think of "Labyrinth" when I see that) wasn't taken down. Oh if it were only going to be this simple.
After getting beat up I am on the snipers side and then we get the big moment elf suicide, well attempted elf suicide. I don't think the professor approved of elf suicide but it did happen on more than one occasion in the Sil so I can accept it here.
Now the poor elf is in the hands of men who do not understand what is at stake here. We do and it is going to be a bumpy ride. gi gig

Chapter 54 part 2
I have tried to review twice so let's hope that third time is the charm. I kept getting a too busy signal.
You are so good at this type of writing. Lovely chapter with Elrond's thoughts while he is handling the arrowhead. A little on the obssessed side, actually this elf may be a little northwest of normal here or are all Peredhil this way? A little of the human in them?
So he took a little memento to remember TawarWaith by. Was this for sentimental reasons or for a sly as a fox, just in case, a hedge for the future type of thing. Perhaps he is thinking ahead for evidence if needed. Now he seems to be caught like a bee in a jam jar. Just wanted to get a little work done, had a plan when we started but now buzzing, buzzing and not able to pull himself out of this. Well good. I like to think of the biter being bit, big time. Is this getting a little "Fatal Attraction" here? You know stalkers, peeping tom pictures, logs of where theperson you obssess about is at every minute of the day? Dead, boiled rabbits. No wait that is the movie.
I loved the herd of goats bursting into flames. I would get a little po'ed at Elrond too far daydreaming on my watch. Getting every detail. Oh yeah!! Right!
So funny. Elrond has set all of Imladris and probably 'Lorien on it's collective ear. His carefully crafted cover story shot full of holes by his very own nit picking detail oriented daughter. Women are prone to do this. The divorce courts are full of guys nevenever realized how detail oriented their wives were. Snort.
Good. Erestor is having some fun. I wonder if this was part of the deal. Erestor takes part in this rather dodgy foray and gets a nice vacation with his lovers in 'Lorien for it.
I get to say poor somebody else for a change. Poor Elladan. He must be beside himself. Another black mark on Elrond's moral ledger. Wheee!
Then Elrond has the gall to curse Legolas, Ninglorien and Thranduil plus their lineage. You 't l't learn too soon to push the blame onto someone else. Go look in the mirror Peredhil. There is the elf that is to blame for your woes. At least he says he will never forgive himself if something happens to his sons. I'm sure he will be able to shift the majority of the blame to someone else. He is already trying.
Still daydreaming, still obssessing.
Glorfindel isn't. His elven mind is just cranking away. A true tactitian's mind at work here. Bingo. He got it. Now what can, will, should he do with this little prize piece of information. Only the future will tell us what you have in store for that.
Elrond at this point is acting a lot like a love sick teenager with a crush. Legolas' name picked out on the names of books on their spines, yes. Fondling a memento of their beloved one in his pocket, yes. A lock of hair to cling to, yes. Then blushing like a teenager when confronted, oh my yes, yes, yes.
One thing. He sure isn't acting like the nutjob who was in Mirkwood.
You seem able to always throw us a curve ball and get things stirred up quite nicely. I enjoy that a lot. Keep up the good work. This must not be an easy story to work out. So many layers and levels. Great. giggle

Great. giggle

Chapter 53 part 1
This is getting so long and complicated that I am going to try to number each review. That way I can keep it straight.
All this trouble just to go potty? I think he should save what little energy he has for something important. I have always envied guys the ease with which they can urinate. It is such a hassle when you're hiking.
Fearfaron is right. The fact that Legolas can get grumpy now shows he has a little more strength.
Legolas captive, unclad, in bed. Be still my beating heart. Could it get much better than this. I don't think so.
At least he promised to stay in bed except for potty time.
Nice clothes. Raw silk, spun by Mirkwood spiders perhaps? Wool, maybe cashmereangoangora. We want the softest and finest next to that marble skin we read so much about. I am so glad that Fearfaron takes such good care of him. He certainly deserves it. Getting him such nice things even when he might not be able to afford it. Of course sunny yellow and easy on/off like for an elfling are not to the prince's liking but his biological adar would give him rags so he'd better appreciate this.
For some reason having Fearfaron carrying Legolas to bed was just so sweet. I am gald you gave us a little light and love here. I was getting major depression from all this angst and political maneuvering.
Having said that we are now into angst time again. Poor Legolas, caught between two angry, merciless, powerful elf lords who will squash him like a bug if it suits their purposes.
Of course we realize that Fearfaron is treading a tightrope here. Having to balance his love and devotion to Legolas with the reality of the situation left him little recourse in his actions. He wants to save Legolas' life and return him to a life worth living. He has a lot of opposition to this goal right now. Legolas is in deep doo doo, the scientific explanation, and Thranduil is on the rampage as only he can be.
Cold, calculating and very careful. This king is certainly one to be reckoned with. Ready to sacrifice a lot to get his way. As long as it never gets near to him. I think that bothers me a lot. The fact that he plotted the deaths of his own warriors to get rid of his son. Talk about a kinslayer.
And now in Legolas' absence he seems to have been set up in direct opposition to his father. This is not going to be a good thing. I think Fearfaron would take Legolas away and the two could just live quietly together if that could be a reality. It can't be but it is a nice dream
Then the last part about Elrond. The whole letters from Elrond taking away any chance of Legolas ever having a happy family and doing so knowing that all this is a lie on his part. Elrond's obsession with this vendetta must be consuming his soul. That was very nice if he actually had a soul. Lovely writing.
Legolas being Elrond's weapon of choice and here we get back to Legolas feeling of self asteem. His sense of non-existence. Elronds continued hurting and humiliating the prince from his secluded haven of Imladris. Back to bottom of the food chain time again. Poor prince. I say that so much in reviews of your chapters but it is true.
Well I better get busy with part deux and then go moan from angst. giggle
