Chapter 15
This was a great chapter. Laid out a lot more in motivation and backstory.
It wasn't so great to start out with debrading wounds but at least it helped Legolas get better and we didn't have to suffer smell-o-vision. Thank goodness.
Oh now we get enlightened about Elrond's plans by Malthen. This is a peril that Malthen is worried about. I can see why. I might not be too happy to have your Elrond instedsted in me and my actions.
We get the low down on Malthen and Ninglorien now. OK we know what we call females who sell themselves to the highest bidder. Queen of the Woodland Realm. I can see why she is so hell bent on bettering herself and hating her husband at the same time.
So Malthen doesn't think that Fearfaron has a right to judge him. I think Malthen gave up all his rights when he betrayed Legolas' trust. The slow breaking down of Malthen's defenses and denial was great. You did a good job with that. Slowly bringing Malthen to his knees about his actions, motives and the aftermath. No he can't blame Ninglorien. She just opened the door, he walked in like he owned the place. And Legolas was so bereft of love and care that he poured his love out on this totally unworthy elf only to be given away like a dog that was no longer wanted. Ouch. If Legolas ever finds this out it would kill him. This was a great scene until Gandalf showed up and wanted them to show a little reason. I wanted an elven fist fight here and the wizard just ruins it. Let them duke it out Gandalf.
So Malthen isn't the father but as Fearfaron says if he has to ask then maybe the answer is yes and he just raped his own son. Wallow in it Malthen. OK so he loved her and she had bigger plans than Thranduil but ada said no. I have to interject here. Maybe Malthen in his fugue state that Legolas described was getting back at the whole situation with his actions toward Legolas. He loved the mother, couldn't have her, knows Thranduil hates her and may be Legolas' father. Lots to hate Legolas for so he brutally rapes Legolas and then when he realizes what this will do to his career as an army man passes him on to another. Not much honor there for an army man.
Ninglorien "loves" Elrond and Elrond "loves" the idea of getting Greenwood all to himself. Oh and the treasure horde too. HMMM. Not at all the Elrond we know and love. Interesting take on him though. Gandalf's observance that Elrond is not inspired by kindness. Oh yeah.
Now what does Gandalf want with Fearfaron's foster son? Everyone wants something here. I am glad the Fearfaron wants Legolas to be his foster son. It sounds so right somehow. Two lost and lonely elves finding comfort and love with each other. At least Legolas will get some love without pain.
I don't trust Malthen to keep his hands off Legolas now either. He now knows that Legolas loves him, has loved him and still does. We have another witness who will blow Malthen's little cover. Blow town Malthen. You are so history. He will so that he can see if he can still prove to be worthwhile. OK but it may take awhile. Like a few thousand years.
So Legolas now wakes up and has all his favorite elves around. Only two, that is so sad. I liked the sharing of memories. That is what comfort is supposed to be. Keep those memories green. Meril doesn't want to think about her mate. She has better fish to fry now. The other elves don't want to remember either, let's face it it wasn't exactly a glorious battle for a worthy cause on the elves part. I think it may have just been used as an opportunity to get rid of a certainal pal prince. So threehree of them will remember and honor the dead. Sweet.
In dreams Lindcalon sees the battle and knows that Legolas is not to blame. I think Legolas will still want to perform his Tasks. He is kind of an over achiever that way.
Well another great chapter. I am so glad that this is not rushed. You are taking your time to give each elf, and wizard, lot dep depth. This is my kind of story. giggle

I didn't like the title to this chapter. It was too scary to think of Legolas fading.
First he isn't recovering like a young elf should. That is not a good sign. He has had to endure a lot of emotional pain in the last few days.
Oh he ran like an abandoned elfling in the forest. Poor Legolas. You really wruearsears out of this situation. He was bewildery hiy his naneth slapping him. So sad. I think everyone has mistreated him at one time or another.
Ah Malthen and a lovley dream o a o a point. Is he still supposed to be celibate or is that over now that the mp (TM) is gone? I mean 72 years is 72 years, elf or not.
Fearfaron and his relationship with his son sounds so ideal. No wonder adar was so broken when he lost his son. So he thinks Legolas' attitude does not reflect well on his up bringing. What up bringing.? Those two nut cases couldn't raise a goldfish much less an elf.
That is just sweet. Ninglorien complaining about Legolas' lack of control, the harlot.
Legolas hearing something entirely different than what is said. He always puts the worst possible spin on everything. All his
physical contact has been negative and he can't instigate positive contact yet he craves gentleness. Sigh.
Wow that was a great scene. Beautly wly written so that the horror of what happened seems almost commonplace yet sends chills up and down my spine. We now officially add Malthen to the r*t b*st*rd list of those wave ave abused and misused Legolas. It is just growing and growing. Has anyone but Fearfaron ever treated him nicely? Poor elf. giggle

Chapter 11

I forgot to put the chapter numas aas a heading in the last review. Sigh. I am tired.
Now we get to catch up on Ninglorien, the b*tch harlot. Gotta hate this elf queen. It is just too much fun.
What Malthen has done can never be undone. He was trusted and betrayed that trust to an absolute degree. So Ninglorien 'gave' her son to him as a sexual toy? He could have restrained himself but no he had to rape him. And he deeply regrets his actions and wants to become the true and faithful guardian once again. That statement made me sick. What a terrible elf. He should go and drown in hindsight. Oh dear do I hate this Malthen elf. The more he reveals himself the more I loathe him.
Ninglorien and her self centered existence. I have seldom read of a more self centered mother. Me, Me, Me.
Elrond has used her to spy on her husband and people. What a monster she is. Valinor better watch out cause here she comes. giggle

Chapter 13
Malthen bedding both mother and son is kind of a sick thing but with these two, Malthen and Ninglorien, I can see it happening. Ah Elrond thinks Malthen is Legolas' father, that is even squickier, and Ninglorien thinks Elrond is. What a bunch of sluts here.
Erestor sounds like a real sexual predator. Although he does sound like he would be fun. Not like Elrond who is prissy and doesn't sound like much fun at all. He seems to have sex for gain and we know what we call that.
No one and I mean no one is going to be a completely untouched elf in your story. Good. I am gleefully rubbing my hands together here. Just make sure Legolas gets someone or something nice at the end OK?
In the scene with Erestor if Elrond can't take it he shouldn't dish it out. It is very unfair for the top dog to dump on his underlings for the same behaviour but it happens all the time.
I loved your description of the Mellyrn trees and Elrond's talan in his own tree. Elrond is beginning to annoy me here.
Ah you laid out everyone's motives so nicely. I sometimes wonder if anyone is actually thinking or just reacting to external cues. You have let us know that there are nefarious things going on behind the scenes that we haven't even touched yet.
And here we have the first intimation that the fall of Legolas was engineered, after reading ten chapters, and not just a terrible accident. Hollow laughter. I wouldn't put it past any of these nefarious elves to do any underanded trick to gain advantage. Except Legolas who is the noble savage in your story.
So Elrond will try to use Malthen the despicable to recover Legolas. Now we know that Elrond has no altruistic motives here at all. He has a use for our noble elf. I would worry about Legolas' future with Erestor but of course I have already read ahead and I know that trouble is brewing. Things can only get worse. giggle

Chapter 2
So the archer is acknowledged by the men of Laketown to be the one who bought Beorn enough time to attack and kill Blog. The elves have a different view of this unfortunately.
Ah so Mithrandir/Gandalf is here and he can clear things up. Ick a broken jaw, knife slash across the chest and a bad arm and these aren't like the major chest wound. They weren't self inflicted. Oh yes an elf that falls on his face. Dream on. I don't think I would want to upset the Woodland King either. Those wood elves, dangerous and wild after all.

The elven archer is very serious about ending his life. More than serious actually panic stricken to do so. This scene was very poignant. They took his knife, his release and salvatioin, and tied him to the bed. Wow.
The elves waiting in silence for the battle field debt to be paid. AU and very good. Hearing the prayer and willing his end and then to be disappointed. Those three paragraphs made me shiver.

So Mithrandir doesn't know the wood elves as much as he probably would like. He hasn't a clue, except he knows they really shouldn't interfere. But if it is not to be spoken of how could Mithrandir help? Catch-22 here.

Now the proclamation. The king seemed a little harsh here but they have their own ways. I did wonder when there was to be no Halls of Mandos for him now, why they almost beat him to death. He might just die from his brutal treatment and join those three wandering. Great proclamation though. Had real gravitas and pomp to it even though it was in a human town. Very elvish. I am taking notes here for the pop quiz.

And now we have the first inkling of who this sniper might be. giggle

Chapter 3
Well this one was a heartbreaker. Lots of torment, both physical and emotional here. Naked elf though. Oh my. Sorry. Got carried away and drifted from the seriousness of what is going on.

OK getting the story all set up here. And what a set up. You have made the introduction so interesting.

Fearfaron - Truly grieving for his son. Very dignified and consumed with loss in an almost gentle way.
Lindcalon and mother - Claiming the title and position of prince for her son. Good move.
Pool of Sorrow - Whose name I could not spell. These names defeat me, sorry. A slightly unhinged elf here. Celibacy and chastisement when he needs it. Sounds rough to me.

They burned his lovely locks. Sigh. Oh well it will grow. I tell myself that every time I get a bad hair cut.

All alone, beaten tpulppulp, banished, degraded, demoted, naked. Not a good day, not a good day at all.

He did lose his rank and title, glad that didn't bother him in your story. No bow and quiver. He must feel really naked without those. Does he get to come back when um 24 x 3 um let's times that and carry that and OK, 72 years is over? Or do they hope that with no bow he will get killed? HMMM interesting.

I am glad I am rereading this. I missed a lot in just the first three chapters. Your work is really dense and I was reading really fast the first time because it was just so intriguing. This will undoubtedly increase my appreciation of what you are posting now. You really worked on putting a real puzzle together for us. Thank you. giggle

Chapter 4
I am double spacing because I find it hard to read a large review that is single spaced.

Here we have Gandalf Stormcrow, bringer of ill gotten goods this time. Always gathering his bits and pieces to make into a whole for his mission in Middle Ear
G
Great scene with the king and Gandalf here. The kind that makes you want to smack certain hardhearted, cold blooded, imperious royalty. Of course the other realms have to know about the change of succesion. And we have to blow off the Crown Prince's arranged marriage mate. I bet she is glad to have this disgrace not touch her. All right. Legolas will be allowed back after the time is up but the king is coldly indifferent. A real loving family moment here.

I loved the "not to be spoken of" in the king's stables but gossip seems to be as inherent in elves as other races. How leveling. The trout swimming through water was great imagery.

OK now we have some help for the poor damaged elf. A healer should be able to heal anyone who needs help. Although I didn't like her comment about since he has chastisement, read torture here, he will have need of her healing services fairly frequently. Now to the nitty gritty. I like the way you slowly unveil this. Like it would be in real life. Not huge chunks of exposition for us to digest. These elves are wild and dangerous indeed in your AU. Not at all the good folk Tolkien spoke of. That seems to just be a veneer for a very pagan outlook on life. I can go with that.

Lots of blame here to go around. They seem to be kind of steeped in guilt. Death in battle is as much a matter ofk ask as skill. So Malten will go fight in the most dangerous area to atone for his failings.

I think it is very interesting that the elves here do not accept the blessings of the Valar. They are suspicious of Valinor and the Halls of Waiting. After all no one comes back to tell them what it is like there. Unless you believe that Glorfindel of Imladris is the same as Glorfindel of Gondolin and since he is a Noldor they wouldn't believe him. You can't believe Calequendi if you are a Morequendi. I need to take a deep breath here. Lovely unraveling going on.

The whole pattern of his green universe so utterly destroyed by one little stephat hat a cry for hindsight. Life's like that unfortunately. Why I doI do that, say that, not do that? You can go nuts over these types of things.

So Malthen wants them all to have a clean death so they can meet in the Halls of Mandos after having exculpated their sins. Good Luck with that one. At least he brought Legolas' pack and knife. Oh his bow was burnt with the bodies, nice touch. Not sure what the hair thing was about but having picked up a few things already I will kind of tuck that away for future reference.

Another great and calm (this time) chapter. I realize we are on the roller coaster now and we won't be getting off till the end. Take a deep breath. giggle

Chapter 5 part 2
How did you learn to find your voice, your style? In other hands this might have sounded like a travelogue or nature show but it just reads as perfectly normal. Not many writers can handle so much adverbage or adjectiveage. I know those aren't really words. I just made them up.

He is now indigenous to the forest. A part of the flora and fauna. This is where he belongs. I see the wood elves like this. When the Sindarin came they gathered the silvan elves into a realm but the wood elves are still a part of the forest itself. In a way Legolas is going back to his roots. Pun intended.

The eagle and tree "for you" was beautiful. I saw a "Forrest Gump" feather just floating down. He has learned the value of what the forest gives. His clothing comes from the forest's bounty, his food, his very emotional sustenance. Of course he is a clever elf who made the clever clasp. Another naked elf scene too. Can't get too much of that. At least I don't think so. You know he might just love this type of life even more. If he smiled rarely as a prince he must not have been that happy.

A dozen years at this so far. Time flies whether you are having fun or not. Time must have a totally different meaning when you are immortal.

As far as the Tasks of Release, I would imagine other elves in his position must have just killed themselves so this whole Judgement thing must not come up too often. So he might be right, rather than deal with knowing his death might close a door they never wanted open in the first place, his death might be preferable. I hope that made sense. It did to me but it is very complicated reasoning.

I liked Fearfaron finally giving up on trying to teach Legeolas how to be helpful. He was a warrior and I doubt warriors built too many flets. Much better to have him work on the Tasks of Release so his son can be in Mandos' Halls.

OOH That Pool of Sorrows elf ils really icky. Do they have perverted elves also? What torment he has put the poor elf through all these years. By the end of 72 years this guy will be totally off his rocker.

Good. Back to becoming one with TawaGoinGoing in among the elves must be such a burden now to bear. Being a pariah has never been a walk in the park and with the icky elf it must be hell. He can find comfort and purpose in Tawar. Seeing the forest for the first time. Living in it, fighting for the realm, all these things now focus down to the suffering Tawar has been going through all this time. He is becoming a real wood elf. He has eateeater cause then his redemption and the release of the dead warriors. I liked that the other warriors have been watching him and have begun aiding him. Also that the forest helps warn him when the orcs get near.

Good chapter as always. Now we have to suffer through a trip to town. I don't look forward to this. giggle
