Aww. Glorfindel makes my heart ache. Imagine him watching Elrond fall into darkness, powerless to stop it, to protect him. And poor Legolas. *kicks Boromir in the shins one more time*
Just for good measure, you know!

Finally, the torment that's eaten me for over a month is gone with your update. Thanks very much. I love the character of Glorfindel even more after reading this chapter but still wonder if he hadn't, just for once, felt like...with Legolas. Well...just my naughty thought. While I'm dying for the next chapter, I woudn't push you to update soon as I'm well awared that you have so many things in life to deal with. I would endure the new torment silently until the next chapter comes. Until then, take care.

so now what? And what was Elrond like before the corruption of the ring?

Finally an update - I was into some serious withdrawal! ;)

Well, I guess we now know why Glorfindel continues to serve Elrond. :/ It is noble and all that for Glorfindel to honor that long-ago vow, but you would think there should be an escape clause in there - to serve until/unless etc etc. I mean, serving an Evil Overlord seems rather a conflict of interests! And frankly, you left the door open in an earlier chapter for Glorfindel to break that vow (at least it seemed that way - when Elrond was going to whip Legolas just as the Fellowship was setting out). So it does raise the question, what are the boundaries of that vow, and why (with the cruel torturing, mutiliating, etc. etc.) hasn't Glorfindel long since decided that Elrond has crossed the line?

Oh, well... Glorfindel is a minor character here so I guess I should stop obsessing about it. :/

I am surprised that there are more chapters of flashbacks to immediately come. I think that we would all like to see the backstory of Legolas and Estel, but you need to balance that with moving the Fellowship forward. We may also need a bit more of a breather from horror, as I darkly suspect that we are going to see just how bad things get for Legolas in that 2 month moratorium. (On the other hand, it would be nice to see Glorfindel really comforting Legolas...)

Re language... thanks for the history lesson on castration (seriously). Still, the modern day usage refers to only the testicles, so you can see where this would be confusing. (And if Elrond did intend "castration" to be the whole shebang, then why even bother with taking out the tongue? It's not as though the victim would be likely to survive...) As for "strip" - a strip club was the last thing that came to my mind. "Undress" really is too namby pamby a word for the situation (I almost want to laugh whenever I see it), but I guess that we will have to agree to disagree on that.

Good luck with the RL issues. Will stay tuned for the next update. (And I am glad that you can take my criticisms and deal with them in an adult manner. With the long wait for an update, I was almost convinced that you had joined the ranks of those authors whose works I had "reviewed" that stopped updating - forever. CE reviews/nitpicks = the kiss of death for some stories, it seems. :/ )

I like th flashback. The torture of the elf slave girl was a bit too cruel but It explains well why Legolas seems to be submissive most of the time. Still it implies his dignity and grace as a prince of Mirkwood. I can't wait to see what Legolas's life had changed since he was gifted to Estel. Update soon please.

Thanks for the long and, as usual, wonderful chapter. It's really worth waiting. You can't imagine how happy I am when seeing this latest chapter on.

I wonder if you're going to put some fighting scences in this story. I think it's time to show to the rest of the fellowship the true acher and warrior our beloved elf was. Besides, it would be a good scence to express love and concern over each other. It's just my thought. I'd love anything you create though.

Once again thanks for this wonderful story.

Fabulous, as always.
My heart was pounding throughout Legolas' memories. Horrible horrible Elrond. And Valar bless Glorfindel. Perhaps he knew all along, some inkling of what Legolas' part in the Quest would be?

Oh, okay. No slapping Boromir. *kicks him in the shins instead*

Wow. This chapter sure is brutal. But it's neccessary to show why Legolas become the way he is now. You've done a good job of it. :) That scene where the female elf suffered for Legolas's disobedience, I have to say, is the most painful. Elrond is a monster, but he sure knows how to tame a defient person. No matter how strong or stubborn a person is, if he/she has the tiniest bit of conscience, he/she will sure be tame this way. My heart not only goes out to Legolas, but also to the other hostage elves who most probably also suffered the same fate as Legolas. Even if they eventually all get kind masters, they must have also gone through the same 'training' as Legolas.

Another part I like is the part where Legolas surpressed a smile and the bit on his tormentor. I found Legolas defience in this part realistic. He being a prince and warrior after all. This scene also gives readers a glimpse of the person Legolas used to be before he became a slave. Another good job done showing the fiery side of Legolas. :)

No wonder Legolas can love a sadist like Aragorn. Compared to his experience with Elrond and the Twins, his days with Aragorn is like heaven. Aragorn at least shows true concern for him. I'm looking forward to see how the relationship of Aragorn and Legolas grew from their first meeting to their current deep relationship.

I'm still a Gimli supporter, so, I would really like to see how Gimli will react if he ever know what Legolas has gone through. :)

Chapter 29 review...

Actually had to put this off a day. Legolas was treated SO badly, I had to recover, before I could comment.

You certainly explained very well why he is so 'accepting' of his fate, and hasn't sought death as an alternative.

I'm totally hooked on your story. Would it be terrible of me to say I'd like to see Legolas get a break??

Shit! That was intense! And you know, that was the first time I've ever pulled away from a story in horror. Congratulations! LOL It was that elleth, and having her tongue... *shiver* Funny, I love reading about torture, such as...well... everything you've written thus far! *grin* But THAT just got me squeemish.
I liked the flashbacks though... and I liked Glorfindel; how he was there to comfort Legolas when he could. A nice touch of sweetness to offset all the angst.
Wonderful chapter all around... *shiver*
