This might be my favorite short story you've done. It has more subtely than most, and the characters are different that your usual portrayal of the two. Though I really like the usual version too!
I have one problem, maybe because I have been in art school and have a book called the Artists Handbook which explains what's in the materials that artists use. I don't think you'd want to have them inside your body, depending on teh pigment . . . . And also most of us using oils (and they definitely wouldn't have had acrylics!) always have linseed oil around with the paints, so they could use that!
Just kidding -- I see that I ruin all the humor with my too-analytical review. It is a beautiful story. I loved it.
