Legolas was so brave. He must have been terrified of the nasty orcsss and then the nastier (BOO HISS) Ungoliant and her brood. But he fought bravely and saved everyone who was still alive anyway.
Poor Elrond and Glorfindel will have to heal properly now and we have to get back to the problem of what to do with and about Legolas. At least Adar is acting a little nicer now.
I liked this chapter. We see it through different eyes than the creator of it you know. I thought the battle scenes were OK. We didn't get a lot of personal interaction but then it is a battle scene so we don't have to.
Looking forward to more as we cruise on to the end. giggle

Wow, that was an exciting chapter! Thanks for the update!

Oh, and since I'm old enough to remember when the song first came out, please allow me to correct slightly the verse you give at the end:

% The eastern world, it is exploding
Violence flaring, Bullets loading
You're old enough to kill but not for voting
You don't believe in war but What's that gun you're toting?
And even the Jordan River has bodies floating...
And you tell me over and over and over again, my friend,
you don't believe we're on the eve of destruction... %

And the original group to sing it was the Byrds. :-) All about the bad ol' 60s....

Anyway, an excellent chapter, and well-named--good to see the old songs being listened to nowadays! (sheesh, I sound like my grandma...)

Yay ! Someone finally listened to me for once And And kill you for what exactly ?...I don't like the sound of that...What is going on ???
But I like Glorfindel's little 'chat' with Haldir :) And Elrond's with Thranduil. So much love and passion in their words...well...Ok so there is no love in 'I will gut you like a trout and leave you to hang from a tree' but you know what I mean. Only one (probably stupid) question. Who's Turgon ?

*easily catches the coke behind her back* Thanks!
And it probably would be fun to hold a rubber spider infront of me. But in a totally different sense than you mean. I would try to find out if you could discern which species it is. Maybe a jumping spider? Or rather a wolf spider? An orb-weaver? LOL

And hey, this story part is not that bad! Well, it hasad cad cliffy, but story-wise itnot not bad. There is happening much that is important for the further development of the story.

21 and 22 - I am so sorry I did not respond to ch. 21. I read it, but was having computer probs, and could not stay online long enough to review. But both of these chapters are wonderful, of course. I really like the attention Haldir gave to Legolas, and the way it provoked Glorfindel. Yes, leave it to me to find these things most interestig in an overall moving and in depth story line. I just can't help it. I love the romance. But it is a wonderful plot. I'm so glad you've stuck with it!

Battle of the Five Armies: TA 2941, on and around Erebor. Can't tell you what month or such as none of my sources say. Might want to try Encyclopedia of Arda. It's not the best but it's almost complete. Suppose this has something to do with Thranduil?

I'm only a history expert when it comes to the things that really interest me. My family tells me far too often to keep silent watching LoTR withm bem because they could care less where the ring of Barahir really came from or that fact that accordingly Theodred is supposed to be forty and not twenty something, or that Elrond has a complex lineage of which I can trace the entire Elven side of. I'm just a nut, and I need sleep now. :)

I know, you do *SO* much for me, and you have no idea how much I truly appreciate it, just know that I do.

And, thanks for letting Haldir hit on Leggy, though I suppose that means that I did indeed get it wrong that Erestor and he will hit it off. Course, Haldir still might go for second best. *shrugs* Nope, got no idea what you're going to do next. (Happy? You've stopped my psychic abilities for once. *g*)

And, YAY! ERESTOR'S H(or (or will be soon). WOOHOO! Oh, I can't wait!!!!!!! Good old Erestor to save the day!

Grasshopper? Where did that come from? (Not that I mind you having a nick-name for me, just curious. And, as far as nick-names go, it is quite cute and original; 2 things I admire deeply).

Oh, poor Leggy. And Elrond. KNowing all Leggy's suffering was because of him! Though, I really did feel quite sadly elated when he said that everytime Leggy wimpered he suffered and so on, that was such a sweet moment. Especially as he did it in front of everyone. Declaring his love for Leggy so profoundly like that. So brave and sweet. *sigh* Still, he shouldn't have said that last part to Thranduil, although the king did deserve it, hdn'dn't need to be reminded of it in front of everyone.

Grrr, HALDIR! I know you said you're not trying to make him out to be the bad guy, but it's fun to have a character that you love to hate. See, I'm gonna love him as he tries to steal Leggy away from his lovers, but hate him when he says things like that. it was completely un-called for! (though thanks for putting it in as it does create some lovely tensions between two lovely Elves. ;) )

ARGH! The Queen and 8 other spiders (that we can see of!?). I sure hope the others come looking for Leggy and Glorfindel, and quick! They really need some help right now!

Oh, and let's not forget Elrond putting his life in danger to save Mirkwood. By the way, I loved how Elrond said "I don't suppose I have to tell you not to wear it?" and Thradnuil snapped at him. Nice, friendly, humourous banter, with a hint hurt, betrayal and malice behind it. Very good combination all withint a couple of lines. Well done Ash!

Oooh, please don't make us wait too long to know it they are all ok. PLease?

OOOH Icky spiders here they come. I am kind of skipping really creepy parts. Just concentrating on the dialogue so I don't miss anything.
Poor Glorfindel. I hto sto say but those types of relationships are more common that people think. I know in discussing things with my friends some of them got pulled into a non con situation. Not pleasant to look back on but it happens and you can't let it ruin your life. I say this out of total inexperience so my words mean nothing.
They all know now that they orcs are after the ring. Not the big ring but one of the three. If they can just kill them all they won't have to worry about this again. It will be a long time before any orcs or spiders will dare show themselves in aealmealm.
As far as the tarantulas go. I went to a spider show once and handled some spiders to try to desensetize myself to them. I was brave and held different big spiders including a silver tarantula that was very beautiful. I could do that but to see one in my bathroom or something still freaks me out. I have too good of an imagination so when I read your story I really scare myself. I can't wait for the scene where they kill them all. That will be worth reading the scary parts for me.
Everyone is now in full battle mode and we want to see them let 'er rip. giggle

Legolas was very sweet when he expressed his link with the woods and it's inhabitants. I read another story where the prince wouldn't kill anything to eat and got sicen hen he watched others eat meat.
The story from Haldir was cute, mean spirited a little bit but cute. As Legolas said, thinking of Glorfindel naked in the sand is not a bad thing at all.
Here goes Thranduil again. All my fault. Why is it always about him? Elrond's answer was good for him though. And now it begins. SPIDERS!! Icky. And ORCS!! Nasty.
Yes Glorfindel and company go and burn up the baby spiders. Then they won't become big spiders and give me total creep-outs. I know they fulfill a purpose in natures grand scheme of things. I just don't want to have to see them do it. giggle
